Think about all of the staff that lived on the death star that had family's visiting, women and children! Luke killed them all in an instant! Yet hes suppose to be this goody to shoes hero? No! Even Yoda and Obi wan asked Luke to sacrifice Han solo and princess Leia for the good of the force! Come on! And whats the difference between poltergeist and the force?

Fleet of Doom was made with the co-operation of one of the original Japanese studios. They produced new animation specifically for the special, and World Events assembled it all together using that and some old footage to create the special. It's a 100% American sequel that has nothing to do with the originals, and is only a part of Voltron - not GoLion or Dairugger. Likewise, this is how they were able to have 20 additional episodes of Lion Force Voltron after they ran out of GoLion episodes.

In Voltron he does, but not in the original Japanese shows. The original shows were two completely unrelated shows, that were combined to create Voltron for U.S. television. It was similar to how Robotech was created (which was originally 3 unrelated Japanese shows that were re-edited and re-written to be joined together into Robotech).

That my only problem with this set...no Japanese language tracks, I mean even Battle of the Planets had the original Gatchaman sets. I mean, don't get me wrong I'm glad that the show is on DvD and I'll love it to death but...I want to see the original Japanese footage!

There's no Japanese language tracks because the show was so heavily re-edited to make it into Voltron that the original audio wouldn't match the U.S. cuts. This is strictly the U.S. edit/dub of Voltron, which is very different from the original version, it's not JUST dubbed.

BUT! The same company that released this set is ALSO releasing the original, uncut Japanese GoLion series this was adapted from! The first volume (episodes 1-18) just came out this week. And it is ONLY Japanese audio.

Indeed having Earth be destroyed, as I've read, and having them see it, makes it all the more tragic. Plus of course the real deaths of Sven (so sorry I don't know his real Japanese name) and other characters I'm already getting to get the kleenex ready for. :D

Lol! But of course! The other thing I always remember being frustrated about wiht G.I. Joe was the fact that everyone ALWAYS managed to eject from their planes right before they exploded...

I remember being overjoyed when watching Inhumanoids a couple of years later when a guy (Sabrejet) was shot down (or more accurately, blasted with electricity by Slither), and DIDN'T eject. And spent the next few episodes in intensive care. That show was awesome...

Um, yeah... Something else about Pidge's home world that you didn't mention... In GoLion, it wasn't Pidge's home world that got destroyed. It was Earth.

Basically Lotor and Zarcon decided to attack Earth to draw out Voltron. Koran sees through this fasade and orders them to stay there. Well, they go anyway and try to stop the fleet, but can't stand up to them. In the end, they escape and Lotor and Zarcon take their frustration out on Earth and basically blow it away.

Yeah, I haven't seen the episode (or any GoLion episode for that matter) so all I really have to go on is bits and pieces.

Another site mentions that there was actually a battle on Earth in the opening of the series as well and that's when the Space Explorers got captured. So some of the devastation may have already been there from the get go. I can't even be sure if this is the same battle or not.

This is why I'm glad they're coming out with the Japanese version. I need to verify alot of this and more. Such as the red beret gang and some other character deaths on both sides. Not to mention I really want to know what the Japanese names of the characters all are. I know that Lotor is Sincline, but he's the only one I know for sure.

Just to clear things up, Earth was already destroyed in a nuclear war before the series began. Zarkon (Daibazaal) didn't cause ALL of that devastation that we see. Humans themselves did.

I really don't think that's right. I remember Princess Alura trying to pilot the Black Lion in one episode. When the rest of the team confronted her, she said that the only reason she did it was so that they could form Voltron in a hurry just in case Keith would ever return to Earth.
