Does anyone have a favorite target hand load for the 300 Win Mag? Sierra recommended I start with their 168 grain SMK, (already had their bullets) once fired Rem brass, Rem mag primers, and 4831 powder.
It's because of the video editing, if you still want to disagree you can take it up with Bushnell Range-finders and Garmin GPS system. I'm not a bull shitter, nobody like to hear or see a bullshitter, and I'm a likable person.
Nice shooting but I see one red flag the bullet hit about1/2 sec before the report of the rifle, I learned that every 1 sec is equal to 250 yd's so that means you didn't shoot at 550 yd's, more around 115-175. Ps. I don't want any troll reply's, you can just say you don't agree with me.
i hunt deer with my winchester 300 ultra magnum. puts a huge hole in every one i shoot. i kill coyotes with it sometimes too. ammo is damn expensive tho.
Well done. Most of these films get "out of hand" where people are supposed to be making "hits" at unrealistic ranges. They keep getting further out and I have seen one that was claimed to be 2.0 miles! The sound of that "hit" was likely a cast iron skillet being hit wit a hammer... On the other hand what you are showing here is realistic and what appears to be no bull, only some nice shooting. I especially like the drifts shown. My own furthest drift at 500 is 48 inches.
I love shooting milk jugs full of water. No better confirmation of a hit than that. That's a great area you have there to shoot, it must be nice to have hills. Where I shoot, it's flat as a pancake.
Nice shooting but you might want to focus a little more on your safety. I did not see a sufficient backstop behind your target area. You might want to move them about 20 feet down the hill. If you have the ability take it back to 1000 yards. As long as you have enough movement on the scope the .300 win mag is an easy sub moa shooter at this distance. Next time have a spotter sit behind you and he can save you driving time by spotting your splash.
i have a little trouble with this video that it the second camera picks up the report of the shot at the same time the target is impack sound must travel faster where you live than here
What you are probably hearing is the sonic crack of the bullet. At that distance, what you would hear at the target camera for the rifle would be a low thump.
very nice shooting ... i recently shot a .300 win mag at a distance of about 700 yrds and killed a jack rabbit hehe ..... my longest shot attempt ever and of course longest kill .... cold bore shot....btw .... im hooked into long range shooting .....
I fired a 300 today for the first time at 380 yards and was stunned by the firepower. I am used to a 308 and couldnt believe the recoil and also the energy that was obviously still there at this range. A cannon is the best description for this calibre.
Awesome shooting man! Great camera angles, I like seeing what I shoot also, it truly helps me out in improving and adapting in all environments as well. Great Job! =)
.338LM has a lot more energy and flatter trajectory, but isn't very practical for target shooting applications because of the amount of powder it burns and the cost of reloading components. .300 WM is more readily available and cheaper and gives you somewhat similar performance.
did you just ask which caliber is better, and in the same sentence say both use the same size bullet, I'm not a (licensed) rocket scientist, LOL but I'm pretty sure that .338 inches is .03 inches bigger than .308 inches, so how are you going to have the same bullet in two cartridges that are different cartridges??? (this one has me scratching my head) if I had to choose one, it would be the .300 easily, the small benefit of the .338 isn't enough to justify the price recoil and weight difference!
Are you sure? I don't have any experience with a 338, but going from an AR and 308 to my 300 win mag, it kicks pretty hard, but I think a bullet 30-60 grains heavier at similar velocities would kick more, tho.....
Techinically speaking it should, but the rifles chambered for 338 are usually alot more heavy. Felt recoil is always different from rifle to rifle, and person to person.
Yea, I have a Tikka T3 lite (only weights 6.2 lbs) LOL thats probly why its kinda bad cuz of the rifles weight, but I could have gotten the same thing in 338 win mag, and I'm glad I didn't LOL
I wasn't convinced that Canada was where I wanted to emigrate to, but if this is how I can spend my weekends then I may have to reconsider! Good shooting.
Nice video too. we do a shootpile of long range shooting in the winter on calm evenings we setup for some great shooting...Two years age we had a Wolf walk out on the ice we could have shot it 750mtrs we just let it go.

Your a faggot, how do you know they don't know how to skin their kills, or only show their "lucky" shots. You've probably never shot a gun past 100 yds.
If you dont plan on hunting get the .338 lapua. There ballistics for long range shooting is far superior to the .300 mag and that says a lot!I was somewhat undecided on which one to get when I was looking at 50bmgs and .338 Lapus, so I went big, but sometimes wish I had bought the .338 cause the 50 is too big to take anywhere you wanna go and shoot (weighs 33 lbs.)
Where does one find a place to shoot like this? Knowing people that know people? Savages are excellent guns :) even right out of the box. I love my 308; < 1 moa at 100, and i haven't dinked with it.
Keep driving around in the hills, this was not private land. It took me forever to find such a nice place since so many places are closed off to motorized vehicles etc.
ah the 300 win mag. wen the grounds a shakin, sumtins diein. haha.
alota ppl dnt realize the work that is put into reloading shells and building a rifle to shoot how u want it, the dif powder, dif bullets, dif casings, primers, how u seat the bullet, how big of a bullet, how much powder.
in order to respect a shooter and the work put into the sport, u must b a shooter.
i have a 300 win mag but iv never shot it iv been to levsy to put it together but wen i do im going to try and get some 1mil shoots..lol did you pick that stuff up wen you were done
@pigman50 one thing that works as a good target, especially in cold weather: an ice block (maybe a paper target with it if it dissolves like toilet paper). you can shoot it all you want and it'll take long to fully melt, but when it does theres no mess left behind. even absorbs bullets like none other. you can take a pan & freeze a block yourself or pick one up at the store for a couple bucks.
I enjoy watching videos like this, the reason being I just purchased a Savage Accutrigger 300 winmag... What were you using? I have yet to shoot mine, but am looking forward to it.
pretty damn good shooting. i just got myself a rem mdl 710 in .300 win mag. i cant wait to shoot it in the morning. where u shooting at in southern washington? well have a good one laterz
akguide2000, nice to hear from ya again. MAN I miss my Elk hunting. I put in on permits up here in Alaska but none of civilians hardley ever get one. The first one I put in for was the new hunt on Zarembo Island Out of Wrangell. I was logging on Zarembo and knew exactley were bothh herds were. Council members and forest service people got the permits. BUT,,, I'm moving to South Dakota soon and cant wait to do some whitetail, turkey and ring neck hunting again. All of ya that hunt....Enjoy.
Nicely done. I like the double camera effect, it gives people an indication of what it's like and gives a perspective of the time of flight.
I think you'd be able to shoot a lot further if you practiced keeping your feet flat rather than resting the toes into the dirt, it will give you less swagger...but then on the flip side, you should also do what feels comfortable for you.
Nice job just the same and keep up the good work m8.
I own a 300 win mag, my bro owns a 270. its definitely a fine round to shoot. very accurate, nice punch, just nice recoil :)...I hunt big game moose, 300 is one of the ultimate rounds for that, but still, a 270 is amazingly good.
I've got a .308 110FP myself, but there's no contest, you can't beat the .300 with much less than a .50, the remaining energy it's got at those distances is unrivaled.
You should get yourself "The Ultimate Sniper" by John Plaster. Excellent book on long range shooting. Also there's a program called "Long Range Shooting" that takes you through a virtual classroom and ranges with various rounds including the .300. Nice shooting BTW - it looks like you had a different wind direction downrange.
Very nice shooting! I once had a Browning 264 Mag but apparently the shell/bullet design wasn't near as accurate as my 270 and 30-06. Perhaps you have a better explanation on the 264 Magnum.
bacicly im using it for variety game hunting elk moos and deer now that said i shake not shure if its inexperiance or breath controle would you recomend a heavy rifle for the controle that is for when i cant use the prone position like in tall grass ?
Team America- Get the .300 Win mag over the 7mm, you get more variety plus that heavier bullet isn't going to drift as much. And no matter what rifle you get, practice is gonna make you "Steady". You wont notice too much of a difference in recoil in my opinion between the three. But I'd go with the 300, just my opinion
the 7mm bullet is ballistically more proficient than the 30 caliber bullet and it does it with a lighter weight my friend, down range at least 20 to 30 yards more proficient ballistic tables don't lie
Well that is the case that the 7mm is SLIGHTLY better, but if your talking about hunting, that 30 caliber bullet is going to be better with larger game like Elk, Bear, etc. Ive seen to0 many animals hit with the blazingly fast 7mm that were not put down. Ask any Elk guide and I bet he would take the 300 over the 7 any day. There is a reason the .300 dominates at national matches where the 7mm is hardly a player, less wind drift, a more stable bullet in flight means more accuracy.
ya can't eat paper , bigger caliber only makeup for the ineptness of the ability of the shooter in other words thats the main reason why the guides tell you to use a bigger caliber because half of the hunters can't shoot worth a crap, more money than ability, besides wind drift affects a heavier bullet moving slower than a fast one
.308 is moved less by the wind compared to a .223, from 100yds on out to 1000. .223 going 400fps faster then .308, but by 400+ yds, .308 is going faster. and at 800yds, .308 has drifted 22.1" LESS than .223...is that what you meant?
JBG58, I don't think you really know what you're talking about~! U sound like those ancient army officers insisting on 30 cal and bitch about the lighter assult rounds~!
The 300WM= great round and I love it, but give credit to the 7mm, it's BC is incredible.
What kills is Hydrostatic Shock, the 7mm is flat, a great wind bucker with less recoil...maybe poor bullet choice was the problem, sometimes those fancy bullets although a great BC, are not as good as the plain ol' soft point for killing
Nice gun. My dad has a kimber 300 WSM. I am looking at getting a savage 338. Its a huge shell. lol. And whee do you live? its beautiful. I am going to hunt grizzly bears and other large game with my 338. I want it so bad right now! lol.
I love the long range shooting also, I own a Rem700 hvy bbl VLS 308...shoot 165 gr/168gr match and i love 300 yds and out ,gotta Love the distance,Nice work my friend...well done.
i have a question for you im a new pal owner and looking for my first gun now i had had alot of people tell me both 7mm rem mag and others tell me 300 win mag do you think this is 2 mutch for a unstedy shooter i waver alot think a 30-06 spr would be better suited ?
Depends on what its used for, if its just for target shooting get a heavy gun such as a heavy or bull barrel rifle because light hunting rifles kick more if you are using them for target practice and their barrels heat up more quickly. Both the 300 and 7mm have great ballistics and kick comparably. the 30-06 isnt far behind.
Shooting safely requires a large, visible backstop directly behind the targets.
There are stupid people everywhere in life. Many people shouldnt be driving cars, or be parents but it happens everyday in this imperfect world we live in.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
At least with a car, you have a chance of encounting the drivers stupidity with your inteligence - a gun shot from a remote location means you are entirely dependant on the shooter's intelligence/stupidty...
I've been sniped at, and managed to get away, but I've lost all respect for guns and their owners after that.
The target was a 55 gallon water barrel. The bullet went thruogh the top at the very back and ripped the side out about 8 inches down. With the water, I'm amazed it went all the way through.
I also said it was my record. I can not, nor will I claim, to shoot this way consistently. Consistently, I can manage 600-800 yards. But, to shoot at the 2000+ yard range, I need my Army buddy helping with the calculations and to let me use his rifle. I only made a statement trying to make conversation with pigman50 to complement his shooting. I did not intend to piss anybody off or be ridiculed by people who make assumptions.
That accounts for being able to dial in the elevation. It took several shots to hit the target. I never said I hit it cold bore. My buddy has the video. If he can find it, I will post it to show how we did it. I wouldn't BS ya.
You are correct about the ballistics. At that range you are lobbing a round and there is an incredible drop in bullet velocity and trajectory. I never said the rifle was factory. The stock is glass embedded and the barrel floated. The reason I made this shot is because I live down the road from a retired Army sniper. Yes, you are right, it was mostly luck that I hit it. I was on a hill shooting into a range about 400 feet below my position.
damina,,,,i just got a Remington700 PSS in 300winmag and i can't wait to scope it up and rock some distance. what power scope are you using? currently have a bushnell elite 3200 10x40 on my ar but might go for a 20x or greater for the PSS.

I hope you have zeroed your rifle.
The standard for most snipers is Sub-M.O.A. (1 inch sqares at 100 yards, 2@2, etc.
You should be consistently hitting a 5 inch square at that distance.
I understand that the wind is strong and erratic in this video.
Get your gun zeroed first. Work on your shooting technique basics, and you will really improve.

Where does one find a place to shoot like this? Knowing people that know people? Savages are excellent guns :) even right out of the box. I love my 308; < 1 moa at 100, and i haven't dinked with it.
heathovc 3 years ago
Keep driving around in the hills, this was not private land. It took me forever to find such a nice place since so many places are closed off to motorized vehicles etc.
pigman50 3 years ago
well the closest hills i can find here are the flint hills, very good place, but its all private it seems.

ah the 300 win mag. wen the grounds a shakin, sumtins diein. haha.
alota ppl dnt realize the work that is put into reloading shells and building a rifle to shoot how u want it, the dif powder, dif bullets, dif casings, primers, how u seat the bullet, how big of a bullet, how much powder.
in order to respect a shooter and the work put into the sport, u must b a shooter.
very good vid by the way.

I always pick up my trash as everyone should, to ensure shooters will be welcomed back instead of shut off from the land!
pigman50 3 years ago 15
@pigman50 one thing that works as a good target, especially in cold weather: an ice block (maybe a paper target with it if it dissolves like toilet paper). you can shoot it all you want and it'll take long to fully melt, but when it does theres no mess left behind. even absorbs bullets like none other. you can take a pan & freeze a block yourself or pick one up at the store for a couple bucks.

I enjoy watching videos like this, the reason being I just purchased a Savage Accutrigger 300 winmag... What were you using? I have yet to shoot mine, but am looking forward to it.

They were custom loads using Hornady bullets, im not a pro at reloading but im pretty good. Each rifle likes its own special food.

Its only 550 yards, and a 300 win mag is about 1.2 travel time so thats 5 inches off at 550...
Wind is the issue... not bad shooting but, what bullet what charge? What FPS??
seen a thousand yards at a moving target hit 4 out of 5

akguide2000, nice to hear from ya again.

Love my 300WM. Shot a forked horn last season. Damn deer did a double back flip with a half gainer.
irishmike07 3 years ago
Nicely done. I like the double camera effect, it gives people an indication of what it's like and gives a perspective of the time of flight.
I think you'd be able to shoot a lot further if you practiced keeping your feet flat rather than resting the toes into the dirt, it will give you less swagger...but then on the flip side, you should also do what feels comfortable for you.
Nice job just the same and keep up the good work m8.

wyorednek 4 years ago
I own a 300 win mag, my bro owns a 270. its definitely a fine round to shoot. very accurate, nice punch, just nice recoil :)...I hunt big game moose, 300 is one of the ultimate rounds for that, but still, a 270 is amazingly good.
sublime42o 3 years ago
I've got a .308 110FP myself, but there's no contest, you can't beat the .300 with much less than a .50, the remaining energy it's got at those distances is unrivaled.
You should get yourself "The Ultimate Sniper" by John Plaster. Excellent book on long range shooting. Also there's a program called "Long Range Shooting" that takes you through a virtual classroom and ranges with various rounds including the .300. Nice shooting BTW - it looks like you had a different wind direction downrange.
glock21guy 3 years ago
Very nice shooting! I once had a Browning 264 Mag but apparently the shell/bullet design wasn't near as accurate as my 270 and 30-06. Perhaps you have a better explanation on the 264 Magnum.
BikeRaycer 4 years ago
264 round is accurate when loaded to its ability , factory fodder is lame in that respect
bobmsr 4 years ago
bacicly im using it for variety game hunting elk moos and deer now that said i shake not shure if its inexperiance or breath controle would you recomend a heavy rifle for the controle that is for when i cant use the prone position like in tall grass ?
teamAmerica101 4 years ago
Team America- Get the .300 Win mag over the 7mm, you get more variety plus that heavier bullet isn't going to drift as much. And no matter what rifle you get, practice is gonna make you "Steady". You wont notice too much of a difference in recoil in my opinion between the three. But I'd go with the 300, just my opinion
JBG58 4 years ago
the 7mm bullet is ballistically more proficient than the 30 caliber bullet and it does it with a lighter weight my friend, down range at least 20 to 30 yards more proficient ballistic tables don't lie
bobmsr 4 years ago
Well that is the case that the 7mm is SLIGHTLY better, but if your talking about hunting, that 30 caliber bullet is going to be better with larger game like Elk, Bear, etc. Ive seen to0 many animals hit with the blazingly fast 7mm that were not put down. Ask any Elk guide and I bet he would take the 300 over the 7 any day. There is a reason the .300 dominates at national matches where the 7mm is hardly a player, less wind drift, a more stable bullet in flight means more accuracy.
JBG58 4 years ago
ya can't eat paper , bigger caliber only makeup for the ineptness of the ability of the shooter in other words thats the main reason why the guides tell you to use a bigger caliber because half of the hunters can't shoot worth a crap, more money than ability, besides wind drift affects a heavier bullet moving slower than a fast one
bobmsr 4 years ago
.308 is moved less by the wind compared to a .223, from 100yds on out to 1000. .223 going 400fps faster then .308, but by 400+ yds, .308 is going faster. and at 800yds, .308 has drifted 22.1" LESS than .223...is that what you meant?
milliradian 3 years ago
JBG58, I don't think you really know what you're talking about~! U sound like those ancient army officers insisting on 30 cal and bitch about the lighter assult rounds~!
The 300WM= great round and I love it, but give credit to the 7mm, it's BC is incredible.
What kills is Hydrostatic Shock, the 7mm is flat, a great wind bucker with less recoil...maybe poor bullet choice was the problem, sometimes those fancy bullets although a great BC, are not as good as the plain ol' soft point for killing
axmerdr 3 years ago
Nice shooting. I like the first shot in slow motion you can see the bullet.

i have a question for you im a new pal owner and looking for my first gun now i had had alot of people tell me both 7mm rem mag and others tell me 300 win mag do you think this is 2 mutch for a unstedy shooter i waver alot think a 30-06 spr would be better suited ?
teamAmerica101 4 years ago
Depends on what its used for, if its just for target shooting get a heavy gun such as a heavy or bull barrel rifle because light hunting rifles kick more if you are using them for target practice and their barrels heat up more quickly. Both the 300 and 7mm have great ballistics and kick comparably. the 30-06 isnt far behind.

How do you people with guns ensure you don't accidently shoot some innocent hiker?
I just don't trust people with guns - most are too stupid to ensure the safety of others...
HeelOnMe 4 years ago
Shooting safely requires a large, visible backstop directly behind the targets.
There are stupid people everywhere in life. Many people shouldnt be driving cars, or be parents but it happens everyday in this imperfect world we live in.
pigman50 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
At least with a car, you have a chance of encounting the drivers stupidity with your inteligence - a gun shot from a remote location means you are entirely dependant on the shooter's intelligence/stupidty...
I've been sniped at, and managed to get away, but I've lost all respect for guns and their owners after that.

The target was a 55 gallon water barrel. The bullet went thruogh the top at the very back and ripped the side out about 8 inches down. With the water, I'm amazed it went all the way through.
superstl 4 years ago
I also said it was my record. I can not, nor will I claim, to shoot this way consistently. Consistently, I can manage 600-800 yards. But, to shoot at the 2000+ yard range, I need my Army buddy helping with the calculations and to let me use his rifle. I only made a statement trying to make conversation with pigman50 to complement his shooting. I did not intend to piss anybody off or be ridiculed by people who make assumptions.
superstl 4 years ago
That accounts for being able to dial in the elevation. It took several shots to hit the target. I never said I hit it cold bore. My buddy has the video. If he can find it, I will post it to show how we did it. I wouldn't BS ya.
superstl 4 years ago
