Left Hand Path: a dichotomy between two opposing philosophies found in the Western Esoteric Tradition, which itself covers various groups involved in the occult and ceremonial magic.
Left Hand Path: the definition of one of the best old school death metal albums ever recorded!
@SlayerGiO i know. it was in an interview. all i have to say to prove jeff is the better one of the two is the " fight til' death" solo. kerrys solos sound like that spinal tap guitar solo sped up haha. at least you didn't attack me like a metallica fanboy. fuck metallica
@djmm1397 actually kerry took him to this level of guitar playing, in the beginning Jeff didn't know how to play guitar very well so Kerry taught him lots of things...
@Valgrindar Alright then, I excuse you by virtue of your sub-70 IQ. Do, however, help natural selection as well as mankind along by killing yourself, with bonus points if you use a double-barrelled shotgun.
@Valgrindar Stand: Not liking Slayer is questionable, calling it 'overated, samey, mediocre' is akin to a brain defect. 'Reign in Blood' was a pioneering death metal album, with emphasis on phrasal instead of structural composition. The effect achieved was ground breaking at that time, taking speed metal into realms previously undiscovered. Slayer was an important band, without which there would be no Entombed.
@cursegar Being historically significant doesn't mean the writing was good. I'm happy for their existence; I don't doubt that many bands I love exist because of them. However, I'll stick with "Darkness Descends" and "Pleasure to Kill", two far superior 1986 thrash albums.
@cursegar Both are superior in every aspect; superior riffs and solos make up most of it, not to mention Tom Araya's vocals being nothing short of annoying. Take a listen to both "Darkness Descends" and "Riot of Violence"; either you'll have a revelation, or continue to be a stubborn Slaytard.
@Valgrindar Ah, of course, the classic 'superior riffs and solos'. You're right, because that's how metal should be judged, isn't it? No mentions of riff progression, no mentions of the song actually telling a story, instead why not judge it like a rap song? 'Well I didn't know what the song meant but it had better beatz'. Slayer's songwriting absolutely destroys both these bands, and not just Reign in Blood. But I don't expect you to understand.
@cursegar Sorry if my descriptions didn't touch on the music theory enough for you. I try to keep my comments relatively short. Slayer's writing has little to no compositional integrity; they rely entirely on very boring, mediocre methods in their songwriting, and they barely vary what they do at all. Lyrics are an idiotic thing to base composition off of, but I don't expect you to understand. Fanboyism is blindness.
@Valgrindar Oh, right, 'boring', because they can sufficiently exploit and perfect simple song writing techniques to efficiently carry a point (South of Heaven). Have you even heard 'Pleasure to Kill'? The riff progression is absolutely nonsensical at some points. Name one song on Reign in Blood that has this. Fanboyism is blindness.
@cursegar You shouldn't try to argue music theory if you don't know what it means. Slayer don't "perfect" simple songwriting; they just write simple, straightforward thrash. It's not my fault if Kreator and Dark Angel aren't simple enough for you. Also, I'm not the fanboy here; I'd have to be arguing the nonexistent superiority of a single band. I'm merely arguing that Slayer is substandard thrash.
@Valgrindar This is in spite of the fact that you haven't even said how they were 'more complex'? Cool, use the word 'fanboy' so you don't even have to think of arguments.
@cursegar Slayer is very simple, so naturally Kreator and Dark Angel are more complex. I don't make the same point twice with different wording unless it's necessary. You ARE a fanboy; you're sitting here trying to convince me that one of the most overrated thrash albums of all time holds water against thrash with more integrity, more variance, and superior composition and musicianship. I suggest you take some time to listen to some more music, what you find may surprise you.
@Valgrindar Amusing that you call them more complex when they're essentially 'play as many riffs as quickly as you can and brag about it' bands. Their over the top style may appeal to people too stupid to appreciate subtlety, confusing technique and catchiness with 'superior musicianship' and composition. I highly doubt you even know what 'superior composition' is. Also, I probably listen to more music than you, enough at least to not confuse 'speed' with 'thrash'.
Fuck that Deathcore and Metalcore fucking bollocks. The only good core is Grindcore and I'll fucking slay any emo that get's in my fucking way. I'll dismember, disembowel, eviscerate their queer body. One I get to the top of Faggotcore mountain I will put the flag of death metal on there. Fuck emos and Fuck chavs
I listen to this album when i was 8 years old, cuz my brother always gived to me cassettes with bands like this.. and i was going to my school.. listening entombed in a walkman xD hahahahaha, this is the first distortion in guitars that i heard, after of this Dismember appears with a similar sound.. and then... all the bands that you know.. edge of sanity, etc etc.
i discovered extreme metal around 1991 or 92, when this stuff was brand new! :) it's nice to read comments from younger people who got into classic death metal from commercial bands like trivium and such... stay metal! :)

I am (insert young age here) old and I listen to ( insert bad ass metal band here). Who gives a rat's ass how old you are. I've been listening since a young age too. So what. Comment something useful. Like the face that this was one of the first metal acts to use the so-called chainsaw guitar tone by tuning down to B, and running through two distortion pedals.
to be more precise, entombed were THE first to use this kind of guitar tone, and they didn't get it using two pedals, but with an HM2 into some cheap amp...
@dh3im Cool, thanks for the clarification. I do know that Dismember uses two and just kinda figured they got that from Entombed since they have such similar tones.
@SuicideFixated Hell yeah, same thing here... I am 16 and have listened to metal since i was 7 years old (Mostly Maiden and stuff) and i started to like death metal at the age of 13.
