This is Great, I am a huge fan of old school fighters.. Now if something from the Epic Jeanette-McVey fight would surface that would be quite a sight..
Great post, appreciated !! Dempsey had both these guys in camp at one time or another. So far I haven't dug up anything about how the McVea sessions went. I have read that Dempsey KO'd Johnson. When asked why he went so hard at him, Dempsey replied he deserved it for trying to show me up.
It's fantastic to see these superb fighters from the past, Great stuff !!
My friend, your points are well taken, and I’d like nothing better than to believe this was Langford, but I did the research before posting, and it’s Battling Jim Johnson in the film. The record for Johnson’s height is confusing indeed, but the most reliable sources put him at 5’10/5”, as in the film. At 5’7”, Langford would be a full 4 inches shorter than McVea's 5'11". Compared to McVea, the opponent here is too big, too tall, and too heavy to be Langford. Thanks for your comments.
One thing I've never understoof though is McVea is listed as 5'10 and Johnson at 6'3 . . .but the fighters here are about the same height and if anything Sam appears taller. The fighter who is supposed to be Johnson also is not fighting out of the low crouch he is described as having in newspaper write-ups. I think it must be another fighter . . . looks more like Langford than Johnson, especially considering the shaved head.
