I would recommend a kevlar layup as it has our highest strength-to-weight ratio, meaning it's light but still extremely durable. Also, our Carbon-Kevlar gunwales knock 5-6 pounds of our boats when compared to wood or aluminum trim. Hope that helps!

All our laminates are designed to handle a high level of impact from the regular wear and tear of wilderness tripping. Impact resistance would only be a concern if you used a lightweight composite in rapids, strong currents with rocks/deadfall etc, where you are well above your natural paddling speed.

Neat boat! Now for Kevlar vs. Carbon Fibre. Which is actually better for taking those accidental hits from rocks/logs that you might not see while paddling? I do a lot of paddling in Killarney, Quetico and Algonquin and I'm looking for a canoe for week long trips, long portages, but can take a bump or two. Light weight is must for sure!! Any advice?
