THAT ANT CAUSED SEVERAL COUNTRIES, INCLUDING MY OWN, TO HAVE THEIR GDP REDUCED BACK TO LEVELS FROM YEARS AGO OR EVEN TO NEARLY GO BANKRUPT!!! WOW, THAT'S SOME ANT!
The republicans do cater to the banks, the wealthy, the stock market, but do nothing but take from working men and woman and this my friends is what Boehner stands for.
@s46d45m17 The owners of banks control both Democrats and Republicans. If you're electing Democrats to save us, please reconsider your strategy. Obama is a spokesperson for the banks, as was Chris Dodd. They rubber stamp bail outs, spending, regulations, and anything they can to put us into deeper debt. We are stuck paying the interest, and to whom? The richest owners in the world. Interest. We are being forced by our own government to pay them for nothing.
@meccaturbo It's useless military spending that's crippling this nation in debt: we spend over 663.26 B ('08) on Military expenses, which is over 6.7x the amount of any other country (runner up is China at 98.8 B). The reason for this is not legitimate protection from threat but embedded corp. interests supported by bought-out officials. Another source of unnecessary debt is Health Care, for which we pay over 2x per capita the cost of all other ind. nations, w/ worse results & far less covered.
@DavidMesirow Taxing companies that outsource jobs won't solve the problem. It's not the companies' fault, it's consumers who want the cheapest product. That's why so much stuff is made in China and sold here. There are only two ways to rectify this....(1) protectionism and (2) people willing to work for lower salaries so our products compete with Chinese products and stand a chance of being purchased by consumers.
@meccaturbo The only way to make people work for less is to tax their salaries (using that to pay off the debt, subsidize things, etc.). People won't just become "willing" to work for less. It's not in our nature. People always try get as much as they can for as little as possible. It's nobody's fault. Companies (employers and employees) want the highest salary possible.Consumers want the best deal possible. Finding the right tax/subsidy solution can keep jobs here and keep products competitive.
@DougMezz If there's another depression and people are glad they have a job, they will work for less. It's not idea, not saying I necessarily want it to be that way, but if people in this country don't start selling products that compete on the world market, then we're going to be in deep trouble when China essentially overtakes the world with cheap labor. The house of cards is eventually going to fall if we don't reduce our debt.
@meccaturbo I understand the imporance of competing on the world market with China, etc. by having low-cost products. I just don't think that theoretically people will work for less than what they can get. Since people are trying to get as much money as they can, we have to tax people and companies, some more than others. We can't tax too little, nor too much. We have to get enough to pay off the debt while still keeping our products competitive on the world market; a sensible fiscal policy.
@DavidMesirow GDP, sure....but not net worth. And net worth is starting to matter as we go further into debt. Producing wealth is one thing, retaining it is entirely another (and what we should be doing). I'm not saying people should be forced to do something they don't want to, but the only way to bring things back into line is to have a sort of "correction" where people see that we're not entitled to "good times all the time" and thus become willing to work for less.
@meccaturbo I agree some people should work for less. It doesn't seem fair that a CEO gets paid 100 million a year while workers for the same company making minimum wage get laid off by the thousands. It doesn't seem fair, right? But that is the capitalist system allowing for that discrepancy in salaries, with one job being higher in demand than another. I believe our progressive tax system, which could be improved, can fix that. It would be nice if people agreed to work for less without taxes.
@DougMezz Of course. CEO's make way too much money too. I just think people don't take seriously enough what a threat China is. This really isn't about taxes, it's about making products that are inexpensive, to compete with China. The only way to do that is to have low labor costs.
@meccaturbo It is about making products that are inexpensive to compete on the world market. And it's about keeping jobs here so they don't get outsourced to China, India, etc. The way to do both of those things, however, is to close tax loopholes for American companies that ship jobs overseas so they can't take advantage of cheap labor as easily and so they keep more jobs here - and to subsidize companies that keep jobs here so that the labor is artificially less costly and thus products also.
@DougMezz Closing tax loopholes alone won't do it. Cheaper labor has a much bigger influence than tax loopholes. Ask Briggs & Stratton why they now produce so many of their engines in China....it's because they can't compete with Honda, Kohler, etc., unless they reduce their product cost - and that can't happen without inexpensive labor.
@meccaturbo What do you think about taxing the very wealthy a little bit more to subsidize cheaper labor so that the minimum wage can still stay in place? The labor stays at the market wages theorietically but the executives making hundreds of millions get a little bit less than their market salary to pay for their workers to get a little bit extra to meet minimum wage. It's not like the executive would move to a different country, or relocate the entire company to a cheap labor country. Right?
@DougMezz Sure, they should pay a bit more tax percentage than people of lesser means. It still won't solve the basic problem. China has millions of workers willing to work for a fraction of what our workers will work for. The only way to correct the trade and debt inbalance is to (1) enact protectionism measures or (2) have people work for less, resulting in greater parity between the cost of Chinese and American products.
@meccaturbo I understand how protectionism would protect jobs in the United States. But how would protectionism make us more competitive in the world market? Wouldn't that just restrict international trade? Are you suggesting that most or much of China's products are bought by the U.S.? Are you suggesting that wages of U.S. workers would go down with protectionism?
@DougMezz It wouldn't. The country will ultimately sink if we can't become more competitive. We can't use gov't money we don't have to prop up a failing system via subsidies. I think a slow correction will ultimately take place with pay increases leveling off far below where they were before - this has to happen in order for us make products that can compete with countries that have low cost labor.
@meccaturbo Okay, you said, "The only way to correct the trade and debt inbalance is to (1) enact protectionism measures or (2)..." so I was just asking how it would help to do so.
@meccaturbo The leveling off is not a "correcting" effect, but a result of US workers handing over all of their rights carte blanche to corps. Germany has far higher base labor costs than US, yet better upward mobility & less poverty, gives has universal health care, retirement sec & public higher ed funding, & is world's 2nd largest exporter, with unemp of 7.6% while US is 3rd w unemp of 9.6%. It's pop is only 82 M & US is 307 M. Its union density is over 27%, US's is only 12.5%.
@DougMezz This country is so far in debt, that we don't have money to subsidize companies so they will keep labor here. All of these stopgap measures don't do much - reducing labor cost is the main factor behind the fact that Chinese products are so prevalent everywhere.
@meccaturbo Okay, I agree that cheaper labor would make us more competitive. So how do you think we accomplish that (without just saying people need to agree to work for less, especially less than market wages). People working for minimum wage often work for wages above their market wage because it's a price floor. And admittedly, labor unions may do the same thing. Do you think we need to lower the minimum wage? What law do we need to pass? Or can we accomplish this without passing a law?
@DavidMesirow We are not the wealthiest nation, not by a long shot. Our total assets of net worth are lower than many other countries, in large part due to our massive foreign debt. The only way to lower this debt is to make products that sell on the world market. The only way to do this is to produce them less expensively. Unless we're willing to prop up our government with more debt, people (myself included) are going to have to start working for less money to compete with China, etc.
@DavidMesirow The competition I'm talking about is the US being able to sell products on the world market, to compete against low cost labor countries like India and China.
@DavidMesirow China produces products with every bit the quality that the US produces....and yet our costs are higher than China's - thus the reason factories in the US are shutting down, because they can't stay in business. Better work conditions do not matter when competing against a country like China....the only thing that matters is product cost, if a company wants to stay in business. It's unfortunate it's like this, but this is the way it is.
@DavidMesirow We are not talking about how competitive something is FOR WORKERS. We are talking about the USA losing its competitiveness to countries like India and China. Labor unions are a large reason for this serious problem. Anyone with half a brain can figure this out. Unions = forced higher salaries = less competitive than countries with no unions.
@DavidMesirow As I said, supply economic data showing me how countries with labor unions (i.e. the USA) are more competitive than those without them (China, India). Until you supply this info, you have no argument.
@DavidMesirow Your "feasible solutions" comment means only one thing....cheaper labor. Ask any economist, that's the truth. Seems that you lack any sort of capacity for advanced thought, and thus it is impossible for your small brain to comprehend these concepts. Unions do not make us more competitive at all, not "in a way" as you claim, not at all period. They hinder our ability to compete with India and China. Your "enlightened" way doesn't mean jack shit when it comes to economics.
@DavidMesirow I'm not a moron at all...I know about world economics, clearly you do not. You claim unions make us more competitive - sorry dude, but that comment shows the very essence of how little you know about economics.
@DavidMesirow You are incredibly stupid. We don't outsource because "some companies want to", we outsource because consumers won't buy products that cost more money when cheaper products made elsewhere are available.
@DavidMesirow It shows nothing of that sort....if someone is a moron, I will call them that. If you don't like it, then don't read it, you whiney fool. You don't know jack about world economics and just what a dire situation this country is in, due to us not being able to produce products that are competitive in world markets. Why do you think everything is made in China and India, when you go to the big box store? Because we can't produce it cheaply here.
@DavidMesirow You need to get your facts straight. Do a little research on how GE just shut down their last lightbulb manufacturing facility in this country. Why? Because labor unions resulted in the bulbs not being competitive, compared to those made in Mexico and China. Labor unions make us more competitive? No they don't, and this is a concrete (and recent) example of just how out of touch you are with reality. Better do some learning, you retarded low intelligence moron.
@DavidMesirow The original amount was $787 billion, and they added a bit of extra spending, bringing the total to $900 billion. Apparently you do not read the news, not surprising given that you live your life like your head has been under a rock for the last 30 years. As I said, 10% unemployment before "stimulus" and 10% after stimulus, proving it was not effective at all. In 5 weeks, you will see just how wrong the Democrats are when the House of Representatives becomes Republican controlled.
@DavidMesirow You are obviously very stupid. Most manufacturing is being shipped overseas because labor unions have driven the cost of producing the products up to the point that they are not competitve on the world market. It's morons like you who think everything is "just great" with the way things are going, when in reality the ship is sinking. You really are stupid.
@DavidMesirow Stimulus was necessary? Is that so? Before the stimulus was put into effect, unemployment was 10%. After the ~900 billion dollar stimulus has been spent, unemployment is still around 10%. That's not very effective, now is it, you retarded moron?
@DavidMesirow No they're not making things more competitive at all. Democrats favor labor unions, and unions do not make things more competitive. In fact, they do the opposite....they result in our products costing so much that they can not compete with products made by other countries. Get your head out of the sand...you've shown via your comments just how very little you understand when it comes to world economics.
@DavidMesirow Not true at all. You really are stupid. The 900 billion stimulus is far more money than was ever spent by Bush on "wall street bailouts". Why don't you show some evidence of these huge bailouts you speak of. Send me some info that proves your comments have any substance. You are essentially full of crap. FYI, "infrastructure" improvements do not make this country more competitive, and they do not lead to more jobs of the kind that allow us to compete with China.Wake up, you moron.
@DavidMesirow Your comments about running up the deficit are laughable....the Democrats have run the deficit to record levels on "stimulus" spending which did nothing to help the competitveness of this country and bring jobs home from overseas. I'm sorry, but stimulus spending to build roads is nothing but a temporary fix which does nothing long term. Obama has wasted record amounts of stimulus money on an economy that has not recovered...and there's no plan to pay down that debt. He's an idiot.
@DavidMesirow You really are dumb. Democrats don't see the plight of the middle class any more than any other party. They're in bed with labor unions, and they have no concept of how to make this country more competitive. If they cared about the average citizen, they would take steps to bring business back to this country so there would be good jobs for the middle class. They don't know a damn thing about the plight of the middle class.
@DavidMesirow Sorry dude but you are wrong. Bush AND Obama have both increased the debt massively. Bush, with the Iraq war, and Obama with the "stimulus" plan that didn't work.
Someone should tell Boner, Ryan and the rest of that right wing clan that there's a middle class in this country and they need help! Maybe they could for one minute stop being yes men for the wealthy elite and give a damn about the rest of America!
"Justin Coussoule is running against John Boehner and he needs your help to win this battle. Boehner has been in there long enough and if Justin can beat him that would send a real message to our government."
Dr. Quinjaro...its been passed! did u say the same about the health bill or veterns changes? There's so many things that ive already utilize...my student loan will be depleted with my volunteering & job. My 500 truck returned 4500 in the klunker and whatever dude...just refuse anything that passes. dont pay your credit car bills or taxes..be strong. go without
the repubs are making sure nothing is passed without something being unresolved! making loopholes by holding out votes or asking for another thing! brown is in office less than a year and playing his hand 4 his party. the pres isdoing so much & they just holding on like damn, hes trying 2 change things!battling Congasses are half passing the strongest reform. Repubs want him 2 fail so every HOT issue suddenly Put on a SOLVE IT NOW list: immigration
The Republicans refuse to give aide to the Americans that lost their jobs. 800,000. jobs were lost under the Bush Administration and the Republican control of Congress. Now the Repubicans say Americans need jobs, it was their policy that helped them to loose their jobs.
america is structured as a failing corporation. citizens are indifferent common shareholders, elected officials are malfeasant management, corporations are the board of directors, and china is an increasingly reluctant line of credit.
Lets see, economy keeps getting worse, throwing taxpayer money down a rathole, don't really care about trying to do that much to clean up the beaches in the gulf, still in afghanistan, approval ratings are pathetic, border is deadly and chaotic - time to make another speech!!!!!
@Freenetnow comments like that no wonder ppl dont take u serious...Of course I'm sure republicans who don't do any research and believe thru "word of mouth" do tho. U can tell a republican Obama was born in Nigeria and guess what....they will believe it. U don't believe in foolish and senseless things like facts. Of course not why would u now. BTW did u hear Obama smoked a cig!!...he ate a burger with mustard and not ketchup!!? he must be a traitor.....>=0
@Freenetnow HMMM, fixed health care, kept millions of American dependent on GM and Chrysler jobs from joining 15 million others in the unemployment lines. Saved 5 of the 6 major banks here in American from a total collapse which would have made the Great Depression look like a hiccup in our history, Helped 49 of the 50 States in American from having to lay off millions of Teachers, Cops, Fireman, Garbage men, Mailmen and many others. I'd say he's doing pretty good and so would millions of others
@specialjr11 fixed healthcare? Kept millions of americans jobs with GM? Saved 15 million from unemployment? Saved the banks? BAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHHA, you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. GM already laid off thousands of workers even with the bailout money. Banks are still closing left and right. He didn't do shit for the states. Unemployement is at an all time high. All he did was spend money, and take over corperations to spread his socialist agenda. You sir are clueless.
@stevenmorookian16 You have a problem with reading? I did not say that, I said Quote "kept millions of American dependent on GM and Chrysler jobs from joining 15 million others in the unemployment lines." Left up to Rep's GM, Chrysler, Wells Fargo, B of A, and 3 other major banks would be gone, and more Americans would be in the unemployment lines. Every State was in the red except one. They would have cut Cops, Teachers and Firemen if not for the Stimulus. Get a Clue dumb ass.
@specialjr11 Fixed health care? you must be psychic since it hasn't even started yet. Spent almost a trillion of our kids dollars and promised it would keep unemployment under 8 percent. Forced some of those banks to take the money even though they wanted to refuse - he just propped up failures. The states funded most of those teacher, firman etc jobs - I know because I teach.
@Freenetnow Said we would be out of Afghanistan - lied. Would close guantanamo - lied. Would put together comprehensive border plan - lied.
He's no different than the others re the border, we are still at war, unemployment is much higher, has exploded our already horrendous debt, and just recently banned the press from the gulf.
He's a great leader allright. And I'm sorry I voted for the man.
@Freenetnow I should let this go - and I never say this - but people like you are fucking idiots. You claim others are sheep, yet you are the very definition of one. You just swallow what you are told, and are so succeptable to good speeches, but don't follow what really happens later.
You think anyone who has a different political view from you must be a republican, or watch only fox, or whatever. You hate people who think for themselves.
@Freenetnow He never said anything about getting out of Afghanistan, He said we would get out of Iraq, which we will be starting our pull out this year. Close Guantanamo, your right about that one, but thats because the Rep's are blocking the money to pay for the purchase of the prison in Illinois. And the Press is not banned. I lived in Biloxi MS for 10 years and have many friends there and you cant step outside of your house without running into a media van. Please YOU FAIL.
@Freenetnow Where do you think your State got the money to pay you? FROM THE STIMULUS THATS WHERE. And yes, he did fix health care. Is it perfect? Hell no, but its a lot better than it was, or rather it WILL BE once all of the plan is implemented. As for your bank statement. PLEASE. Each one of those banks where neck deep in debt from the housing bubbly, commercial bubbly (which no one is talking about) and from the collapse of their own stocks. Get a clue man.
Boehner is out of touch, he live a good life in Cincinnati with his "donations" from lobbyists . He's used to talking in front groups of angry ignorant rural white men, that just eat it up. Here in Ohio he's the "glenn beck" of politicians .
@TheZachish For one, most of the things Obama tries to pass goes through heavy blockades. 2, if people get off their lazy ass and go get money for themselves instead od whining, they'll know that Obama actually has a lot of recovery money out their for them. Only half of the stimulus $ has been spent so far.
@lfranklin27 "Blockades" You mean he could not get the Dem Super Majority in both houses of congress to do his will? How unfortunate... blame it on the Rep's all you want but the fact is they are powerless in congress without dems joining them.
'Obama Money' remember how all that money was going to go to 'shovel ready jobs'? The Stimulus is a colossal failure as most who had a clue predicted... which is why we are now getting his “RECOVERY SUMMER” this is what the 3rd stimulus now? Lucky us!
I agree, the President is very very good at using distraction as a weapon to get his agenda across. Have no fear though....I know that getting 13k new jobs a month was money well spent when it was touted to be in MILLIONS a month. Thanks VP Biden for that. @ jowga And I'm SURE Canada does things differently than the US...that's because it's CANADA..if you like it so much, move there. We aren't a Socialist society in this country......YET!
@SkreetGil Until WE, the citizens of this Country stop sending Corporate shills to DC, NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. Everyone in the world, can see who is on the side of the American people and those for Corporate American. So dont say "fuck Obama and all the Democrats" Their the ones fighting for you. The problem is the filibuster in the Senate and until WE send 65 Democrats, a clear MAJORITY, to the Senate, NOTHING WILL CHANGE. Obama cant do it alone. VOTE
@specialjr11 That's bull shit. We did unite and vote Obama in. What did it do? We didn't get health care did we. They passed the health care reform and it's a joke! He and the dems sold us out. They back down all the time! All the time!
How come the repbuclowns can get there evil bills passed? They unite and then get it done. While the dems just sit there. The repubclowns don't have the majority but they get shit done.
I vote. I've never missed a vote in my life. It doesn't matter.
@SkreetGil Wow, you really dont get how DC works do you? Theres this (what use to be hardly used) rule called "The Filibuster". Thats where any Senator can hold up any bill that they want. The Rep's used the filibuster 127 times in 09 and so far this year they have used it another 28 times. The most that the filibuster rule was used before 09 was 57 times in one year. Thats why The Dem's are not getting things done. They cant even get bills to the floor for Debate because Rep's refuse closure.
@specialjr11 You don't get it. The dems had the same opportunity to pull a filibuster and they didn't. Why not? Cuz they are posers that talk, talk, talk and don't do anything! We can't we don't have the votes. Well the repubclowns don't have the votes either and they do filibusters.
I was a democrat. I used to believe we could fight and there was a way for the people and logic would win. But after the supreme court said corp were now considered people, well it's all over my friend ovah
@SkreetGil "They passed the health care reform and it's a joke"
And who made it a joke? Democrats had to water down the bill because Republicans would not vote on it unless they had it THEIR way. I think Obama sacrificed a lot of political capital to pass the health care reform, and it will improve how we do business with insurance companies (i.e. no denial due to preexisting condition). Maybe you're expecting a miracle worker...
@KDALove Right they can't deny for preexisting conditions but if you have one you are going to have to pay 5x the premium that people who don't have a conditions. So then the people who have a preexisting condition will have to pay up or not have insurance so that pretty much no insurance. That was such a great compromise. Sick people have to pay more.
I expected a public option like he promised. That's all.
@SkreetGil Sorry, but Obama did not promise A public option, that was Nancy Pelosi's idea which she got in the House but couldn't get in the Senate because of Lieberman, Pres. Obama promised to give the American people the same thing they have in DC, What do they have? An Insurance exchange where they poll together to buy insurance cheaper. And that's just what he gave us. A Public Insurance exchange to pick our plans from, with rules and regulations on those Company's to protect our Citizens.
@specialjr11 Yes, he sure did promise a public option. That was one of his campaign promises. And when they were negotiating that is the first thing they took off the table.
What do you think they have in DC? They have tax payer paid health insurance! Duh!!! We the tax payers pay for their health care! OMG.
I think this is Obama's major plan. Keep showing Americans that republicans are holding us back. I believe this will cut the republican minority in half, leaving democrats to do whatever they want.
@ekuwa69 BINGO! Pres Obama is a brilliant thinker and is a chess master at politics. He knew just like you, I and anyone else with half a brain knew, 'Give the Republican enough rope, they we hang themselves on every issue.' Health Care, Immigration, War, Economy. They have no credibility at all on any of these issues. They lied, misled, pre-judged, rejected and even cursed out "HELL NO YOU CANT" everything. We have to Vote the Rep's out in Nov. GET THEM, THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY.
@specialjr11 Wow, it amazes me how you liberal retards think. The only people that were stopping good progress was the democrats back when Bush was in office. The republicans are trying to stop the democrats from spending more money. Besides, Obama needs to focus on the real issues, like the oil spill in the Gulf. He hasn't done shit in that respect? Brilliant thinker? Chess master at politics? HHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH All he does is lie, and avoid questions. He is the worst president ever!
@stevenmorookian16 LOL, Heres a little history lesson for you. From 1994 to 2006 the Republican Party had complete control of the House and the Senate and from 2000 to 2006 they had control of the White house as well. Everything Bush and the Republicans wanted to do, they did. Dem's unlike the Rep's never filibustered EVERY BILL ON THE SENATE FLOOR. So your bullshit doesn't hold up to FACTS or History, which you Republicans seem to have big problems with.
@specialjr11 put your glasses on. I said the last 2 years of bush in office. You cannot name one bill that Bush passed that was worse then Obama's outragious spending. Obama hasn't made a good decision yet.
@stevenmorookian16 Really? I'll name 2...how about the unpaid 7 trillion medicare part d plan or how about 1.3 trillion unpaid tax break for the top 5%? Good enough? If not let me know I'll be more than happy to give you more. and you did not say a damn thing about 2 years. You said and I quote " The only people that were stopping good progress was the democrats back when Bush was in Office" So you need to put your glasses on.
@specialjr11 medicare part d is an insurance plan you retard. It was president Bushes attempt at insurance reform. Something Obama knows nothing about. You get your facts from some fucked up sources. Tax breaks are a good thing, helps the economy stay flowing. I don't know why you liberal retards love taxes.
@stevenmorookian16 You said QUOTE "You cannot name one bill that Bush passed that was worse then Obama's" I named two. 7 trillion UNPAID Medicare part D plan is a million times WORSE than Obama's 900 billion PAID Comprehensive Health Care plan, DUMB ASS! As for those Tax breaks Bush gave out. Where are the jobs from those 5 tax breaks? Oh yeah, There aren't any. Instead of hiring people your Corporate buddies took the money and LAYED OFF 15 MILLION AMERICANS INSTEAD. So much for trickle down.
@specialjr11 It amazes me how ignorant you are. where the fuck are you getting your information? 700 trillion? that is one big ass lie. 46.3 billion is what it costed so far. look up medicare part d on wikipedia. They estimate that if it still exists in 2018 it will cost 727.3 billion. Not quite obama's 800 billion eh? Oh and you do realize that medicare part d is a good thing for people in need of prescriptions right? BTW, nice job making up the 15 million number. You are one pathetic libtard.
@stevenmorookian16 Worse than Bush???? Yeah right. Clinton was more liberal than Obama. The main reason people hate Obama is because he is not a white aristocrat.
@dlhitch2007 The funny thing is, when we let the banks Die, its really not the poorest people who will suffer, we the poor already know how to live with next to nothing. Its the rich and upper-middle who have been reaping all this time that will suffer and i will laugh at them. Then ill go murder me some rich men and rape their daughters
@dlhitch2007 Are you, your children, and your friends prepared for the utter chaos that would ensue if we do let the banking system fail? We're talking about a complete global collapse the financial system we have today . If the banks fail here, you're going to feel it everywhere in the world. I don't think you realize how grave the alternative is if we do indeed let these large banks fail.
@dlhitch2007 So you would let the economy totally collapse? Instead of 9.5% unemployment rate, your all for 40 to 60%? Total collapse of the one industry that American has left, small businesses, that employ 70% of our work force, just let them all fail. Oh and cant forget about GM and Chrysler they would be gone too, add 1.7 mill more to the unemployment lines. And then theres State workers who will be layed off, no taxes to pay the Cops, Teachers and Fireman. Thank God your not President.
Keynesian Economics is not good Econoimcs - And Obama has been employing Keynes theory like its the only school of Economics.... Keynesian Economics = improved short run : horrid long run. Keep inflating the money supply Mr. Obama, keep indirectly taxing the people through inflationairy monetary policy - hell whats it matter, most of America know nothing about anything but reality TV.
Does anyone want to show me where I can find this infamous Cap and Trade bill? The last I'd heard, it was still a rumor, and they hadn't gotten to it, because they'd been spending time on health care (reducing costs and how it relates to the economy), the wars (relates to the budget), a JOBS BILL (which Boehner just said they didn't), and bailouts and financial regulation (which also directly deal with jobs and the economy). Boehner is a literal clown; painted up in orange.
of course someone like Obamba would have something as ridiculous as an ant swatter, he wouldn't want to mess up his fancy shoes by stepping on them like regular people
@frictionRx5 why is it that conservatives love to call intellectuals elitists? Lack of rational thought? Must just be that stupidity is a prerequeisite to be conservative/republican. You people cant possibly have forgotten how bad your party screwed up this country or maybe you all have selective amnesia. There is the REAL epic fail
Of course you didn't address the issue at hand: that Boehner's comment was stupid on a cosmic level; instead you make some idiotic comment about a two-word phrase Obama said.
Sounds like yet another FrictionRx5 EPIC FAIL!!!
Oh, and for the love of God, spell Obama's name right. Immaturity is no excuse for a lack of typing skills.
China needs to just buckle down and jump a generation in their military tech, invade us and then destroy our government so we can revolt and start fresh.
obama will be re-elected by 10,000,000 votes again in nov 2012.......the gop nominee will be beaten like a rented mule by obama in 2012.....especially with idiots like boehner, rand, limbaugh, palin and steele running the gop circus.
boehners grasp of reality is tenuous at best....just like beck's grasp
Why even bother voting? Does anyone actually think we will elect someone who has the peoples interests at heart. We might as well be voting for libertarian or conservatism. Voting sucks if you can only vote for people in your district. If we voted for political parties on a national level, i guarentee you we would have a communist, socialist, liberal, progressive, moderate, conservative and fascist parties. So far, we can vote for 2 people at a national level who think the same 80% of the time.
@starxplor Ok, that's 1 member of congress out of 536... I mean there are only 5 or so members of congress who don't take corporate money out of principle or listen to lobbiests for big business. We have no chance with those odds, unless of course we face an economic collapse to shock people out of fantasy land.
Guys I'd love to share this on social networks and such, but can you clean up the description part... It overflows and looks rather tacky... Other then that keep up the good work :D
i was in spain and france this summer and my friend was sick in the hospital for 9 days it cost him 3000 dollars and free medicines! in the states it would have been close to 100,000 dollars.. as bad as the spanish economy is now, the healthcare system is immaculate.
Boehner is an epic dumbass, anyone who takes him serious is as stupid as him. Boehner does nothing but waste taxpayer dollers bitching about the president. Boehner and the republicans have done absolutely nothing in almost 2 years but bitch and get paid for it. If the repubs truly love the US then put the people first and worry about their fucking party later.
@turboboy68 Sorry that republicans have griped. I didn't know Americans wanted to pay for every Mexican to come here and start speaking spanish as the language. I didn't realize American's wanted to be taxed more. I'm sorry, I didn't realize people loved big brother and wanted the government to be huge and control every aspect of our lives. Sorry that we complained about free speech, that's not important. Sorry we mentioned we're going bankrupt. Sorry dems won't leave Afghanistan. Sorry we care.
We should squash the Republicans like the ants they are! actually I take that back I don't want to be insulting the ants. The day the last Republican in America dies and gos to fucking hell is the day America will be a way better place!!

Another source of unnecessary debt is Health Care, for which we pay over 2x per capita the cost of all other ind. nations, w/ worse results & far less covered.
musicalidea 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Taxing companies that outsource jobs won't solve the problem. It's not the companies' fault, it's consumers who want the cheapest product. That's why so much stuff is made in China and sold here. There are only two ways to rectify this....(1) protectionism and (2) people willing to work for lower salaries so our products compete with Chinese products and stand a chance of being purchased by consumers.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo The only way to make people work for less is to tax their salaries (using that to pay off the debt, subsidize things, etc.). People won't just become "willing" to work for less. It's not in our nature. People always try get as much as they can for as little as possible. It's nobody's fault. Companies (employers and employees) want the highest salary possible.Consumers want the best deal possible. Finding the right tax/subsidy solution can keep jobs here and keep products competitive.
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DougMezz If there's another depression and people are glad they have a job, they will work for less. It's not idea, not saying I necessarily want it to be that way, but if people in this country don't start selling products that compete on the world market, then we're going to be in deep trouble when China essentially overtakes the world with cheap labor. The house of cards is eventually going to fall if we don't reduce our debt.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo I understand the imporance of competing on the world market with China, etc. by having low-cost products. I just don't think that theoretically people will work for less than what they can get. Since people are trying to get as much money as they can, we have to tax people and companies, some more than others. We can't tax too little, nor too much. We have to get enough to pay off the debt while still keeping our products competitive on the world market; a sensible fiscal policy.
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow GDP, sure....but not net worth. And net worth is starting to matter as we go further into debt. Producing wealth is one thing, retaining it is entirely another (and what we should be doing). I'm not saying people should be forced to do something they don't want to, but the only way to bring things back into line is to have a sort of "correction" where people see that we're not entitled to "good times all the time" and thus become willing to work for less.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo I agree some people should work for less. It doesn't seem fair that a CEO gets paid 100 million a year while workers for the same company making minimum wage get laid off by the thousands. It doesn't seem fair, right? But that is the capitalist system allowing for that discrepancy in salaries, with one job being higher in demand than another. I believe our progressive tax system, which could be improved, can fix that. It would be nice if people agreed to work for less without taxes.
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DougMezz Of course. CEO's make way too much money too. I just think people don't take seriously enough what a threat China is. This really isn't about taxes, it's about making products that are inexpensive, to compete with China. The only way to do that is to have low labor costs.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo It is about making products that are inexpensive to compete on the world market. And it's about keeping jobs here so they don't get outsourced to China, India, etc. The way to do both of those things, however, is to close tax loopholes for American companies that ship jobs overseas so they can't take advantage of cheap labor as easily and so they keep more jobs here - and to subsidize companies that keep jobs here so that the labor is artificially less costly and thus products also.
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DougMezz Closing tax loopholes alone won't do it. Cheaper labor has a much bigger influence than tax loopholes. Ask Briggs & Stratton why they now produce so many of their engines in China....it's because they can't compete with Honda, Kohler, etc., unless they reduce their product cost - and that can't happen without inexpensive labor.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo What do you think about taxing the very wealthy a little bit more to subsidize cheaper labor so that the minimum wage can still stay in place? The labor stays at the market wages theorietically but the executives making hundreds of millions get a little bit less than their market salary to pay for their workers to get a little bit extra to meet minimum wage. It's not like the executive would move to a different country, or relocate the entire company to a cheap labor country. Right?
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DougMezz Sure, they should pay a bit more tax percentage than people of lesser means. It still won't solve the basic problem. China has millions of workers willing to work for a fraction of what our workers will work for. The only way to correct the trade and debt inbalance is to (1) enact protectionism measures or (2) have people work for less, resulting in greater parity between the cost of Chinese and American products.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo I understand how protectionism would protect jobs in the United States. But how would protectionism make us more competitive in the world market? Wouldn't that just restrict international trade? Are you suggesting that most or much of China's products are bought by the U.S.? Are you suggesting that wages of U.S. workers would go down with protectionism?
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DougMezz It wouldn't. The country will ultimately sink if we can't become more competitive. We can't use gov't money we don't have to prop up a failing system via subsidies. I think a slow correction will ultimately take place with pay increases leveling off far below where they were before - this has to happen in order for us make products that can compete with countries that have low cost labor.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@meccaturbo Okay, you said, "The only way to correct the trade and debt inbalance is to (1) enact protectionism measures or (2)..." so I was just asking how it would help to do so.
DougMezz 1 year ago
@meccaturbo The leveling off is not a "correcting" effect, but a result of US workers handing over all of their rights carte blanche to corps. Germany has far higher base labor costs than US, yet better upward mobility & less poverty, gives has universal health care, retirement sec & public higher ed funding, & is world's 2nd largest exporter, with unemp of 7.6% while US is 3rd w unemp of 9.6%. It's pop is only 82 M & US is 307 M. Its union density is over 27%, US's is only 12.5%.
musicalidea 1 year ago
@musicalidea Not so.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DougMezz This country is so far in debt, that we don't have money to subsidize companies so they will keep labor here. All of these stopgap measures don't do much - reducing labor cost is the main factor behind the fact that Chinese products are so prevalent everywhere.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@meccaturbo Okay, I agree that cheaper labor would make us more competitive. So how do you think we accomplish that (without just saying people need to agree to work for less, especially less than market wages). People working for minimum wage often work for wages above their market wage because it's a price floor. And admittedly, labor unions may do the same thing. Do you think we need to lower the minimum wage? What law do we need to pass? Or can we accomplish this without passing a law?
DougMezz 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow We are not the wealthiest nation, not by a long shot. Our total assets of net worth are lower than many other countries, in large part due to our massive foreign debt. The only way to lower this debt is to make products that sell on the world market. The only way to do this is to produce them less expensively. Unless we're willing to prop up our government with more debt, people (myself included) are going to have to start working for less money to compete with China, etc.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow The competition I'm talking about is the US being able to sell products on the world market, to compete against low cost labor countries like India and China.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow China produces products with every bit the quality that the US produces....and yet our costs are higher than China's - thus the reason factories in the US are shutting down, because they can't stay in business. Better work conditions do not matter when competing against a country like China....the only thing that matters is product cost, if a company wants to stay in business. It's unfortunate it's like this, but this is the way it is.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow We are not talking about how competitive something is FOR WORKERS. We are talking about the USA losing its competitiveness to countries like India and China. Labor unions are a large reason for this serious problem. Anyone with half a brain can figure this out. Unions = forced higher salaries = less competitive than countries with no unions.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow As I said, supply economic data showing me how countries with labor unions (i.e. the USA) are more competitive than those without them (China, India). Until you supply this info, you have no argument.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Your "feasible solutions" comment means only one thing....cheaper labor. Ask any economist, that's the truth. Seems that you lack any sort of capacity for advanced thought, and thus it is impossible for your small brain to comprehend these concepts. Unions do not make us more competitive at all, not "in a way" as you claim, not at all period. They hinder our ability to compete with India and China. Your "enlightened" way doesn't mean jack shit when it comes to economics.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow I'm not a moron at all...I know about world economics, clearly you do not. You claim unions make us more competitive - sorry dude, but that comment shows the very essence of how little you know about economics.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow You are incredibly stupid. We don't outsource because "some companies want to", we outsource because consumers won't buy products that cost more money when cheaper products made elsewhere are available.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow It shows nothing of that sort....if someone is a moron, I will call them that. If you don't like it, then don't read it, you whiney fool. You don't know jack about world economics and just what a dire situation this country is in, due to us not being able to produce products that are competitive in world markets. Why do you think everything is made in China and India, when you go to the big box store? Because we can't produce it cheaply here.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow You need to get your facts straight. Do a little research on how GE just shut down their last lightbulb manufacturing facility in this country. Why? Because labor unions resulted in the bulbs not being competitive, compared to those made in Mexico and China. Labor unions make us more competitive? No they don't, and this is a concrete (and recent) example of just how out of touch you are with reality. Better do some learning, you retarded low intelligence moron.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow The original amount was $787 billion, and they added a bit of extra spending, bringing the total to $900 billion. Apparently you do not read the news, not surprising given that you live your life like your head has been under a rock for the last 30 years. As I said, 10% unemployment before "stimulus" and 10% after stimulus, proving it was not effective at all. In 5 weeks, you will see just how wrong the Democrats are when the House of Representatives becomes Republican controlled.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow You are obviously very stupid. Most manufacturing is being shipped overseas because labor unions have driven the cost of producing the products up to the point that they are not competitve on the world market. It's morons like you who think everything is "just great" with the way things are going, when in reality the ship is sinking. You really are stupid.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Stimulus was necessary? Is that so? Before the stimulus was put into effect, unemployment was 10%. After the ~900 billion dollar stimulus has been spent, unemployment is still around 10%. That's not very effective, now is it, you retarded moron?
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow No they're not making things more competitive at all. Democrats favor labor unions, and unions do not make things more competitive. In fact, they do the opposite....they result in our products costing so much that they can not compete with products made by other countries. Get your head out of the sand...you've shown via your comments just how very little you understand when it comes to world economics.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Not true at all. You really are stupid. The 900 billion stimulus is far more money than was ever spent by Bush on "wall street bailouts". Why don't you show some evidence of these huge bailouts you speak of. Send me some info that proves your comments have any substance. You are essentially full of crap. FYI, "infrastructure" improvements do not make this country more competitive, and they do not lead to more jobs of the kind that allow us to compete with China.Wake up, you moron.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Your comments about running up the deficit are laughable....the Democrats have run the deficit to record levels on "stimulus" spending which did nothing to help the competitveness of this country and bring jobs home from overseas. I'm sorry, but stimulus spending to build roads is nothing but a temporary fix which does nothing long term. Obama has wasted record amounts of stimulus money on an economy that has not recovered...and there's no plan to pay down that debt. He's an idiot.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow You really are dumb. Democrats don't see the plight of the middle class any more than any other party. They're in bed with labor unions, and they have no concept of how to make this country more competitive. If they cared about the average citizen, they would take steps to bring business back to this country so there would be good jobs for the middle class. They don't know a damn thing about the plight of the middle class.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
@DavidMesirow Sorry dude but you are wrong. Bush AND Obama have both increased the debt massively. Bush, with the Iraq war, and Obama with the "stimulus" plan that didn't work.

@specialjr11 fixed healthcare? Kept millions of americans jobs with GM? Saved 15 million from unemployment? Saved the banks? BAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHHA, you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. All he did was spend money, and take over corperations to spread his socialist agenda. You sir are clueless.
stevenmorookian16 1 year ago

How come the repbuclowns can get there evil bills passed? They unite and then get it done. While the dems just sit there. The repubclowns don't have the majority but they get shit done.
I vote. I've never missed a vote in my life. It doesn't matter.
SkreetGil 1 year ago
@SkreetGil Wow, you really dont get how DC works do you? Theres this (what use to be hardly used) rule called "The Filibuster". Thats where any Senator can hold up any bill that they want. The Rep's used the filibuster 127 times in 09 and so far this year they have used it another 28 times. The most that the filibuster rule was used before 09 was 57 times in one year. Thats why The Dem's are not getting things done. They cant even get bills to the floor for Debate because Rep's refuse closure.
specialjr11 1 year ago
@specialjr11 You don't get it. The dems had the same opportunity to pull a filibuster and they didn't. Why not? Cuz they are posers that talk, talk, talk and don't do anything! We can't we don't have the votes. Well the repubclowns don't have the votes either and they do filibusters.
I was a democrat. I used to believe we could fight and there was a way for the people and logic would win. But after the supreme court said corp were now considered people, well it's all over my friend ovah
SkreetGil 1 year ago
@SkreetGil "They passed the health care reform and it's a joke"
And who made it a joke? Democrats had to water down the bill because Republicans would not vote on it unless they had it THEIR way. I think Obama sacrificed a lot of political capital to pass the health care reform, and it will improve how we do business with insurance companies (i.e. no denial due to preexisting condition). Maybe you're expecting a miracle worker...
KDALove 1 year ago
@KDALove Right they can't deny for preexisting conditions but if you have one you are going to have to pay 5x the premium that people who don't have a conditions. So then the people who have a preexisting condition will have to pay up or not have insurance so that pretty much no insurance. That was such a great compromise. Sick people have to pay more.
I expected a public option like he promised. That's all.
SkreetGil 1 year ago
@SkreetGil Sorry, but Obama did not promise A public option, that was Nancy Pelosi's idea which she got in the House but couldn't get in the Senate because of Lieberman, Pres. Obama promised to give the American people the same thing they have in DC, What do they have? An Insurance exchange where they poll together to buy insurance cheaper. And that's just what he gave us. A Public Insurance exchange to pick our plans from, with rules and regulations on those Company's to protect our Citizens.
specialjr11 1 year ago
@specialjr11 Yes, he sure did promise a public option. That was one of his campaign promises. And when they were negotiating that is the first thing they took off the table.
What do you think they have in DC? They have tax payer paid health insurance! Duh!!! We the tax payers pay for their health care! OMG.
SkreetGil 1 year ago
@SkreetGil Especially when republicans are in charge. Say facts.
buprenorphed 1 year ago
I think this is Obama's major plan. Keep showing Americans that republicans are holding us back. I believe this will cut the republican minority in half, leaving democrats to do whatever they want.
ekuwa69 1 year ago
@ekuwa69 BINGO! Pres Obama is a brilliant thinker and is a chess master at politics. He knew just like you, I and anyone else with half a brain knew, 'Give the Republican enough rope, they we hang themselves on every issue.' Health Care, Immigration, War, Economy. They have no credibility at all on any of these issues. They lied, misled, pre-judged, rejected and even cursed out "HELL NO YOU CANT" everything. We have to Vote the Rep's out in Nov. GET THEM, THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY.
specialjr11 1 year ago
@specialjr11 Wow, it amazes me how you liberal retards think. The only people that were stopping good progress was the democrats back when Bush was in office. The republicans are trying to stop the democrats from spending more money. Besides, Obama needs to focus on the real issues, like the oil spill in the Gulf. He hasn't done shit in that respect? Brilliant thinker? Chess master at politics? HHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH All he does is lie, and avoid questions. He is the worst president ever!
stevenmorookian16 1 year ago
@stevenmorookian16 LOL, Heres a little history lesson for you. From 1994 to 2006 the Republican Party had complete control of the House and the Senate and from 2000 to 2006 they had control of the White house as well. Everything Bush and the Republicans wanted to do, they did. Dem's unlike the Rep's never filibustered EVERY BILL ON THE SENATE FLOOR. So your bullshit doesn't hold up to FACTS or History, which you Republicans seem to have big problems with.
specialjr11 1 year ago 2
@specialjr11 put your glasses on. I said the last 2 years of bush in office. You cannot name one bill that Bush passed that was worse then Obama's outragious spending. Obama hasn't made a good decision yet.
stevenmorookian16 1 year ago
@stevenmorookian16 Really? I'll name 2...how about the unpaid 7 trillion medicare part d plan or how about 1.3 trillion unpaid tax break for the top 5%? Good enough? If not let me know I'll be more than happy to give you more. and you did not say a damn thing about 2 years. You said and I quote " The only people that were stopping good progress was the democrats back when Bush was in Office" So you need to put your glasses on.
specialjr11 1 year ago
@specialjr11 medicare part d is an insurance plan you retard. It was president Bushes attempt at insurance reform. Something Obama knows nothing about. You get your facts from some fucked up sources. Tax breaks are a good thing, helps the economy stay flowing. I don't know why you liberal retards love taxes.
stevenmorookian16 1 year ago
So much for trickle down.
specialjr11 1 year ago

Our banking system is too big to succeed. Next time we need to let it die. All we are doing is prolonging the misery by propping it up.
dlhitch2007 1 year ago 13
@dlhitch2007 The funny thing is, when we let the banks Die, its really not the poorest people who will suffer, we the poor already know how to live with next to nothing. Its the rich and upper-middle who have been reaping all this time that will suffer and i will laugh at them. Then ill go murder me some rich men and rape their daughters
Mikedontgiveafuck 1 year ago
@dlhitch2007 Are you, your children, and your friends prepared for the utter chaos that would ensue if we do let the banking system fail? We're talking about a complete global collapse the financial system we have today . If the banks fail here, you're going to feel it everywhere in the world. I don't think you realize how grave the alternative is if we do indeed let these large banks fail.
KDALove 1 year ago

Sounds like yet another FrictionRx5 EPIC FAIL!!!
Oh, and for the love of God, spell Obama's name right. Immaturity is no excuse for a lack of typing skills.
God bless. :)

obama will be re-elected by 10,000,000 votes again in nov 2012.......the gop nominee will be beaten like a rented mule by obama in 2012.....especially with idiots like boehner, rand, limbaugh, palin and steele running the gop circus.
boehners grasp of reality is tenuous at best....just like beck's grasp

What Boehner was really trying to say, was
that there was this oil leak on April 20 in the Gulf. And,
May and June have passed, and,
it is now July.
Boehner, like the "Presidents' wee one Melia, wants to know,
when Obama [Daddy} is going to finally stop the oil gusher.
After all, Obama stated, "I am in charge".
