N/A 4 rotor FD FTW!!! Sounds nuts. What hp/tq is it putting out and how much does it weigh? Iron side plates? I read that some people have used aluminum ones to cut out some weight, not necessarily in a 4 rotor application.
i wonder if its a matter of combining another 2 rotor housings and a double length shaft, not well researched do you need to ask mazda for one of these that is machined correctly.
@imtrill07 might have been a simple downshift. I watched a few onboard racing videos of a 3 rotor rx8 and the downshifts sounds like that. I might be wrong though since this has 4 rotors.
Can anyone tell me what the front bar is? It looks like the 99 spec front but slightly modified. Is that what they did or is this another type? It's 1 of the best I've ever seen on the FD.
mehhh ive seen better, they did it the lazy way, cars to front heavy, totally throws it off balance, you wanna do it right, bang out the firewall, push it back about a foot, reinforced trans with custom ppf and driveshaft
@LivingtheRotaryLife you may have seen better, but this setup uses the stock mounting points. and it doesnt throw the car off balance..... contrary to popular belief, the FD does not have a 50/50 weight distribution, and most race prepped production chassis are favored to have a little more weight to the front to help braking, giving the tires a little more bite from weight transfer, as well as to help the car rotate without needing much input from the steering wheel
@rotor13 thats untrue, by leaving it in the stock mounting location your forced to push the rack forwards which might give you a better "feel" but shortens turning radius, if you push it back not only are you pushing more weight to the rear which you need to help traction and decrease front brake fade, you also shorten the drivetrain which removes power loss and increase reliability, which is why when mazda builds their cars they put the engine in the rear, like the 787b, furai, and
@rotor13 all their other full blown track cars, and even their FC GT-O competitor put as much of the weight in the rear as possible, regarless, the whole point of the original fd design was to keep the engine behind the rack, which is the cars true pivot point, you change that and you change the whole car, you want the car to be as close to a center of gravity as possible, putting that much weight THAT far fowards WILL have negative effects on handling
@LivingtheRotaryLife Most manufacturers put the engine and transmission in the rear because of the design in aerodynamics needed for the front end. the radiator, brake ducts, and aero surfaces all take up so much room in the front that in order to equalize the weight of downforce at speed to counter-act understeer would to put the weight in the rear.
not to mention that the cars you describe are putting out large horsepower numbers, that even with slicks, they will spin without the weight.
@rotor13 its all relevant, everything you do to the car alters it, if you really dont think putting another 200lbs in front of the front axle wont cause adverse effects, then you obviously never road raced before
@LivingtheRotaryLife No, i road race on the amatuer level through SCCA, dont have time to upgrade my license.
But then again, racing in Spec Miata and Spec RX-7 classes dont really give you a lot of wiggle room. I have an 89 chassis miata and an FB Series 2 RX-7.
@bobbitt187 no actually i own a 450hp fd a 300hp fc im currently looking for an r32 gtr and im pricing together a 20b for my next fd, what do you own?
@LivingtheRotaryLife ok. respectz. fc s are cool shit. fds are cool shit but not as old skool but im sure you know where i am coming from. my friend has just got a red fc soft top with weds rims.. a mazda man looking for a nissan. bit strange but cool. r32 gts is daddy! my mot man has an fd with a 20b and t-88 turbo kit. is high bhp!
i drive a 1988 micra with no mods. joke. 200sx / silvia s14 Ks. 380 bhp. stock body, modified engine suspension, etc..need a new map soon. running a bit too rich!
@bobbitt187 i wanted the gtr because i wanted something cheap and fun thats different, and i choose the 32 because you can deactivate the awd system with a few easy mods, plus its got a trunk and back seats, s14s are dope, was gonna pick one up to drift and drop a 13b in it but i cant seem to find one that doesnt have huge rust holes in the frame :/ i guess my area sucks for them, great car though, i have a friend who put a 2jz in his, making 700whp
ran out of room lol, but u can keep the old school when it comes to rex's the fc is so much more expensive to build fast in the long run since theres so much more reinforcing you have to do to make the chassis rigid, i love the car but id race my fd anyday over my fc, besides everyone swaps out the TII engine and puts an REW anyways theres no point lol unless u really are hardcore about the way the fc looks, but its all just my opinion
not a real r26b from what I see... more like just a 26b with 13b parts
