What happens if you chose the shield or wand instead of the sword?

@YogiCastleQueen it mainly effects your strength, defense, MP/HP, and # of item slots. If you choose the staff and forget the sword, you have pretty even stats all around. Forget the shield, and your defense, is down, but you either have more MP or more strength. Choosing the shield and leaving the staff gets you more item slots, if my memory serves me.
