  • Wow. This is really amazing. I hope to see you live some time.

  • what mic was used for this??

  • @ngarcia25 I think it was probably a AKG 414. I use a AT4081 now.

  • @Bone2BWildMusic Thanks! So is the AT4081 better than the AKG 414?

  • @ngarcia25 I'm liking it. I think the 414 is probably more flexible tho. I have a set of 5 AKGs for when the Hornheads play live.

  • @Bone2BWildMusic Alright thanks man.

  • What mouthpiece**

  • At 00:15 you hit the G. How do youdo that can you tell me why mouthpiece. And what type of trombone you have?

  • @seanbroOG for this I was playing a giardinelli 4M mouthpiece on a Bach 16M trombone

  • post the other trumpet solo that is on the website. it's really cool.

  • This is the reason I started to play trombone in 6th grade. Now I'm in 9th grade and still listen to this. Gosh those high notes are hard to play on a 6/1/2 AL. Any one know a better mouthpiece for solos.

  • @electornyful I play on a jazz marcinkiewicz, it allows me to play a very good range. You can buy it on Mouthpieceexpress . com, Its a small shank marcinkiewicz, the signature series, and its an Ian Mcdougall model, and its great for soloing.

  • that was pretty insane...i have never heard a trombone played like that. you truly are talented.

  • yeah cheers nice one just as i think im gettin a bit of range i see some dude squirt a super Db out like its no big deal

  • Lol... "SORT OF..."

Ahh, that made me smile :D I love the solo licks you guys put out. Amazing playing!

  • one of, if not one of greatest solos ever.

  • why do people dislike? its not nice. whoever dislikes is a bad person that can fall in a well and not get saved.

  • Now thats Nasty . . . !

  • Never thought, that someone is able playing high notes as you did on a trombone! Awesome!

  • @Baer1024 Thanks! I don't know that my high range is all that rare. I think it's more a matter of whether playing in that range fits with a person's concept/style or not. I played on a gig that featured Andy Martin last month. He would go up to a high F during solos a fair amount, but after playing a full set of features, he nailed a solid triple E in a cadenza. It just shows that he can do it whenever he likes, but it doesn't fit his style to do it often.

  • I'm gonna go set my trombone on fire now..

  • did you wright the solo first? or did you wright it after he played it

  • @GWFKing this was an improvised solo that I later transcribed.

  • @Bone2BwildMusic

    Thanks i really am thankful

  • HOLY Mother

thats awesome. i wish i could find a way to get the sheet music to that.

  • @Trombone590 the mp3 and pdf are posted at the Hornheads web site on the bonus licks page

  • wow that is unbelievable

  • You should be some kind of god of trombone.

  • im pretty sure a lot of those notes were taken down an octave hahaha but still its really good!

  • will you have the full song posted????

  • @noodles3132 this song along with plenty of other content is at the Hornheads web site. Check the bonus licks page for available downloads.

  • I really like how this sounds! I've played trombone for 3 years so far, and I can't wait til I can play stuff like this!!! Wow!

  • Awesome solo from an amazing musician!

  • just wondering, is this all just over a Bb7? or does it kinda alternate between Bb and Eb ish

  • @Zngmario Yeah, pretty much just a Bb7 except for the 3-6-2-5 turn around at the end of the phrases

  • actually most of this is wrong. This all a jazz swing where 16 nothes are not jazz swinged. THose need to be most eighth notes but great job on the rest dude. Dang

  • @Trombonist550 Actually this transcription is very accurate. The song is a funk shuffle with a straight-8th / shuffle-16th feel. 8th-notes are not the only note values that can indicate swing. As you continue your musical education I'm sure you will discover other pieces with 16th-note figures that are played with a shuffle or swing feel (particularly in the jazz and contemporary idioms).

  • @Bone2BWildMusic alright thank you. I am only a sophomore in highschool so I probably don't know as much as you. Thanks

  • lol at the "sort of" part XD

  • if only it was possible to play that high

  • this is awesome- with youtube I may be able to sightread by age 90! and its in bass clef!

  • Simply awesome!

  • Mr. Nelson, im a big fan. Q: are you fretting ms. 27 28? across the break fret/slur? You sound great man-Fabian

  • @fabemez9924 Thanks! I'm using a light doodle tongue along with the breaks on that lick.

  • what software are you using for all of this

  • @khavandy I used Snaps Pro to do a video screen capture of the Finale file playing at the correct tempo, then synched it with the audio in iMovie

  • you transcribed these yourself?

  • wow this is so amazing how u make it easy but the music look so difficult, i hope i get that good one day

  • Hahaha! The "sort of" part!

  • FUCK!!!!

  • man what a sick solo

  • can the trombone actually play this? are all these notes playable? The highest note i hit was the 4th octave d above the 4th octave B-Flat

  • Sure, there are plenty of guys that can play in this range, it's just not that musically practical to do it a lot.

  • @Bone2BWildMusic are these notes in the same postions as the notes above the clef or not?

  • @jakez199456 It's very easily achievable to do this, the only hard part is actually spending the time in the practice room. All you have to do is make your tone sound great, have good technique, and drill the lip slurs.

  • @WrightTenorBone are these notes in the same postions as the 3rd-4th octave B-flat?

  • @jakez199456 Well, when playing that high, you can basically play any note in first or second position. but like, it is pretty weird playing that high. None of the rules really apply but the main ones, and tuning is WAY out of wack.

  • :O Holy fuck. I give up, dude.

  • I want to play this.

  • One of the best

  • good job!

  • I need a napkin.

  • That's some really high trombone playing.

  • damn... this solo is crazy

  • I can't get over how easy he makes this sound, especially the really high Db

  • How can i get this transcription ?

  • go to the bonus licks page at Hornheads . com to DL the PDFs and MP3s

  • i'd like to see some vids of this for interrupting cow, especially at the when it's just tenor and bone =)

  • 5* fav.

    God.

    I mean, you are god.

  • Greatest Jazz trombone solo I've ever heard. I laughed when I saw "Sort of...". :P

  • awesome job Michael!

  • Did you write this?

  • Yes, I wrote the song that this improvised solo is in.

  • LMAO! that is riDONKulous. face of steel. (:

  • Thats just just ridiculous. Fantastic though!

  • holy crap man!!! i cant even comprehend things that fast. nice double high g. thank you so mush for posting these vids. please put more up!!!

  • not to troll, but his highest note is a triple d-flat...

  • Which is still an awesome note, considering how he made it sound great in this solo.

  • Man I would do anything to be able to play my bone like this. Thanks for posting, and I am looking forward to more.
