  • I am a beginner, I think your tutorial series is the greatest among all other I checked in you tube. THANK YOU. I have some foolish doubts. First one is, what happened we added the exclamation mark directly in the shadow file. I mean instead open another terminal we insert it in the original file. Dose it works? Second one is how can we activate the backup file in case we want to undo the process? And the third one is, If I run rkhunter -c command, 14 files shows suspected. How can I fix it?

  • @arunjacobj9 I don't recommend u to add exclamation mark directly in shadow file, because it's dangerous -- that's you might insert incorrectly and therefore your shadow file isn't secure or working correctly which may lead to weaken your system security. You mean backing up the file you edit in Linux? Well, just do cp -p -a filename filename-bak (when restore just do cp -p -a filename-bak filename). Depend on which files rkhunter complains, if it's strange look in Google. Reinstall file?

  • @essayboard Thank you and more than happy for your quick and informative reply. I don't know how to reinstall a file that rkhunter complains. One of the file is /usr/bin/unhide.rb. At the first time I install chkrootkit and rkhunter every thing shows Ok but now I run rkhunter -c it shows warning for 14 files. Anyway once again THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK for your great effort.

  • @arunjacobj9 unhide is an OK file, it's belong to Chkrootkit I think. Nonetheless, google it see what is it for sure. Warning in rkhunter and chkrootkit aren't actually 100% dangerous, therefore, you don't have to be panic. Nonetheless, paranoid about those warnings may help you uncover something malicious sometimes. Sometimes, you edit files yourself, it will warn just like that. Do rkhunter propupd to update rkhunter database so it won't warn again and know that those files are fine!

  • Thanks for the video, I agree with some others that you talked too quickly right at the start of the video - I think you were reading it? but the rest was very good - especially the firewall settings - maybe you could have added the settings info or a link under the video?

  • @poojkhgf Sorry for speaking too fast in the video! Setting info was the info that I quickly came up from my experience with Linux and hat typed into notepad so I could read in the video. After the video, I closed the notepad as usual and the info was lost! Simple as that, therefore I had not a link for you. Sorry!

  • music is a bit obnoxious

  • can i do this if i have TOR configured with ubuntu? will my computer be more secure? or will it interfere with TOR?

  • @FenrisVermillion I'm not too familiar with TOR, but if TOR requires you to open up a firewall port or forward a port from your router's firewall, then I guess it would be less secure in a sense that you have to open up a port or forwarding a port. Yes, Ubuntu and other Linux distributions are inherently secure from start, but the users have the responsibility to keep it that way. If users allow too many incoming ports, it means the users have weakened Ubuntu's security measures on purpose.

  • Thanks so much man! Because of you I'm now running Ubuntu and I'm loving it! :) You're the best!

  • @Unwound19 You're very welcome!

  • Thanks man!! your awesome!!!

  • @kungfu911 Same to you for making me feel that I'm helpful!

  • answer the phone

  • @JarleXXX Too many telemarketing calls my friend!

  • I don't know!

  • Come on guys, give him a break, at least he's making an effort to make very comprehensive tutorials ! :)

  • @Deegitalg0d Yes, we need more people like him, that make long videos, on How To Videos.

  • thanks

  • speak clearly sir...

  • @therangeroverfan Indeed

  • @therangeroverfan You're right, my newer videos are much clearer and better, but the contents aren't as helpful as the ones that I speak not so clearly. How unfortunate!

  • @essayboard doesn't matter, coz I understand the content .. carry on the good work :D

  • can you make a video on how to operate snort and configure it

  • @MrLoekanle I'll look into this. I'm not an expert on snort, but I guess if I take a look at it, I might know something that I can show people who don't know anything about snort!

  • awesome :D safe from haxors!

  • @jupperify Not 100%, because you never know a bug within any computer system, whether it is Ubuntu or Windows or FreeBSD or Mac, can actually allow hackers to exploit and take over such a system. The more security measures you have implemented, the harder hackers have to try before he or she can take over your computer system. Just be vigilant on securing your system, then you should be somewhat safer than otherwise. Remember, dangerous links in emails and websites can be just as bad.
