Vaganova graduation exam 2011 girls, grand adagio

@vitaminjordan Not normally, no, exams are to see your highest ability. Besides there comes a point in ballet training where the female dancers always wear pointe shoes...as they would on stage!

@vitaminjordan I did, and I've been back as a guest teacher at several leading schools since. I'm unsure why you are so devastated by my one casual observation that I was surprised they were not wearing pointe shoes, or why you feel the need to be aggressive in your responses. My observation is not a slight on their fine dancing. BUT- eg balance is very different on a flat foot when wearing pointe shoes as opposed to flats, and when on stage you don't get to stop and change shoes!

@Monsonclan At my final ballet exam at the Hungarian Ballet Academy we changed to pointe shoes before the jumps, not all graduating classes did that, I believe it was up the teacher to decide. We also had a separate pointe section. In my opinion ballet exams should be on pointe, because like you say, female dancers always wear pointe shoes on stage. But I guess at Vaganova they have to do it the way it has always been done, and they have indeed produced a vast number of extraordinary dancers.
