No, Federal Signal now makes only the 2001/Model2/Eclipse8/EclipseNH mechanical sirens, and for electronic, it's now only the Modulator and DSA, because of the UltraVoice controller, while the Siratone-612 only used the Siratrol, which is no longer made.
No they don't, but if they did, it would be on custom order. 2 is the smallest array, 6 is the largest, and they used to have 7 and 8 speaker cells, but were dropped due to cost.
Yes, I've seen the pictures of the Thunderbolt sirens, and it's a real shame that they're decommissioned. However, they should install a storm siren system throughout the city, since Austin is in the southern boundary of "Tornado Alley."
That's interesting that they selected electronic sirens over mechanical ones. I guess that in the case of a college campus, having speakers is a good idea for communication in the event of an emergency.
Err.. not to be a jerk or anything, but the ACTUAL world's loudest, the Chrysler Air Raid siren had a sound output of 138db. Credit should be given where it's due.
this is a test this is only a test of the siren system.

Sounds just like the DSA by my house. Good recording!
DSRX100 1 year ago
Yes, it's the single tone DSA, and thank you for saying this is a good recording.
CaptainElevator42189 1 year ago
Wow, that is a stupid sounding siren... I like the one in Dallas better... though it sounds more like a bomb siren...
bloodwolfgurl 1 year ago
It's high pitched, but it did its job on September 28 of this year, because of the suicidal shooting.

Wow, I didn't know school buses has sirens on them.
CaptainElevator42189 2 years ago
This is Building "B," and I recorded the elevators there.
CaptainElevator42189 3 years ago
Yes, this sounds too high pitched, whereas T-128 sirens are 450-550 hertz, which is more ideal for a storm siren.
CaptainElevator42189 3 years ago
And I remembered it the first time I heard it on the news, as well as going out in person to record it.
CaptainElevator42189 3 years ago
I remember being really weirded out the first time I heard that echo over 40 acres, that voice coming from everywhere shaking the ground like god

Tornado Alley goes from Texas to North Dakota in the central part of the country, and spreads into the Midwest.

Yes, but the ambulance sirens in my city are much higher pitched, but this one isn't far behind in pitch.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago
lol i hear that siren everyday sounds like ambulence :)
G4E3 4 years ago
Yes, everyone else got a fright when the voice went off, but then got used to the tone.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago
You got a real fright, if the voice talks "It is a test of the siren-system".
I know that, i got also a real fright if a pneumatic siren started in germany. :-))
But it is cool, i like it.

Yes, these sirens are used mainly for tornadoes, armed suspects, and hazardous chemical spills.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago
It's also used for an armed suspect on campus...as in the instances at VT and NIU.
kingkicker89 4 years ago
Yes, most of these electronic sirens sound like large ambulance sirens, rather than a lower pitched mechanical siren.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago

Yes, that's a Federal Signal DSA, which rivals to the American Signal Alertronic and short lived Whelen WS-2000 series sirens.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago
Basically, the DSA siren is the descendant of the EOWS*612 siren.
CaptainElevator42189 4 years ago
At least they didn't go with ATI sirens, since they have been know to really suck.
