Most of the extreme sports have been invented in the US. This is due less to a high exposure to risk than to a very inventive mind, in my humble opinion. But this joke called Backjumping ( and which tries to be a sport ) is not to be practiced in Thailand, France or Holland. In those countries, wearing a helmet or not, if you do some backjumping, you may stand the rest of your life on a steelchair. Definitely more of a jackass joke than an expandable sport

I have been formally backjumping for close to 17 years now. back in the early 90's we formed a small backjumping team here in Portland. Just about 8 of us would practice 2-3 times a week at Creston park. We never called it freebacking but I guess the lingo changes over time. My good friend and teammate holds the world record for a non-compulsory freeride. Which is when you jump on a stranger. 12m13s
