I am sick and tired of all the tango experts who want to put everything in a category and say this is not tango: Tango was born free, as a connection of the natural movements of the body. It HAS to evolve, as it has evolved naturally troughout the past century; it is not meant to stay the same, but to be a MODERN dance! We all should be thankful to people like Frumboli, who invent and experiment with new forms, cause someone must have done it too to give us the tango we already know

I like dancing to this song; however, I feel it's a horrible performance piece. I dislike the wardrobe, but to each his own... Regarding nothing new, this video is from 2007 and I don't watch enough mariano frumboli to validate or invalidate that part of your comment. You can do everything he did on a crowded floor if you apply good floor craft.

If one has seen any stage tango dancing worth anything, after seeing this video, one cannot conscientiously say anything other than bad wardrobe, bad music, nothing new in tango dancing ever, same steps and figures done badly which, renders this a terrible performance! You even agree with me!

People dance this style badly and bump into people during milongas...yea, I agree, but I have also seen people do incredible things in Practica X and not hit anybody. Practicality is related to ones floor craft, not the material (this I feel very strongly). I simply said that you told someone to be objective, but used subjective phrasing. Crappy wardrobe and bad music (in your opinion).

I agree with your assessment of this dance (more or less); however, I disagree with the way you phrased it.

I'm sorry that my comment came across as rude. I had no intention of calling you names, nor psychoanalyzing you. Please don't compare nuevo to show tango... this is an unfair comparison as they are different dances. You have to treat these dances as different dances, and phrase your discontent in a manner that shows respect to the style (not meant to sound pretentious). I respect stage tango, but I would quit dancing if that was the only way I could dance tango.

There is no such thing as nuevo tango, Chicho will tell you that in fact, he's declared it to the World already! You can dance tango socially or for the stage! When stage dancing you dance for people who pay to see you dance and you have to entertain these patrons! For social dancing you owe utmost respect to the other dancers and of course you're not there to give a show! In fact, when there's competitions of tango salon the dancers are not supposed to raised their feet above knee level!!!

Ben non, pour moi Chicho est un (très) bon. j'ai participé à 2 de ses stages et j'ai vu un pédagogue très clair, qui ne vient pas se vendre, mais présent en cas de difficulté, ouvrant au danseur des éléments de réflexion riches à décanter dans les mois suivants s'il il accepte de bosser, et de se remettre en question. Simple témoignage.

Après on peut aimer ou pas, normal; mais on n'est pas obligé d'ajouter des éléments d'une médiocrité affligeante pour conforter son propos

Vous le européens devez prendre beaucoup de cours avec ces profs du bas fonds pour arriver à avoir un minimum de grâce. En tout cas, je voudrais bien partager un toilette avec Chicho pour savoir s'il est si bon "ailleurs" comme dans sa danse ;) arrêtez les gens coincés :)

Thanks for your input, luonnotara and adugas, I'm learning something new all the time about tango. I've not studied nuevo that much - mostly noticed the more open, elastic embrace. Chicho and Eugenia's clips are fab but hadn't noticed the weight on heels thing. I like nuevo but am not so keen when it is danced to traditional tango music, think it suits the new music best. In hindsight I would've moderated my comment - as it does seem preachy and a little arrogant. Looking back at the clip I think it's more that I feel she's a tad overpowered by Chicho.. not physically because the tall and willowy Eugenia makes a great foil for him... but perhaps more to do with her personal style. She seems v balletic and graceful and this looked more in tune with another male dancer she partnered.

I didn't intend to upset anyone. If you'd read my other comments you'd see I was new to nuevo (watching - I don't do it) and was curious. I was meaning her stance in general rather than just weighting her heels - she appears to lean back away from him with her upper body quite a lot. I'm not criticising, it's just an observation on her style compared with Lucia/ Eugenia... I genuinely believed her background was possibly ballroom. As I said, she's a talented and graceful dancer.
