  • is there any house hold product for sealing? i dont know what to use. thanks! x

  • @wisperingmedowstable - A trip to your local DIY/Craft shop should give you a good choice. Most hobbyists use 'Testors Dullcote' and/or 'Krylon matte Sealer' spray but they aren't easily available in the UK so I tend to just go for whatever branded matte sealer I can find. I've used 'Rustoleum' before which was pretty good so I'd recommend that. :) Alternatively a brush on matte sealer can be used - the Windsor and Newton stuff is brilliant. :)

  • @ElreniaGreenleaf thanks that helped alot!

  • I've actually tried painting one with gold acrylic and it never seemed to stick...ever. Everytime I touched it some paint came off on my hands. Even a year afterwards...have you ever had this problem, and what'd you do to make sure it didn't happen?

  • @QHFanatic1993 - Did you seal the finish with some kind of spray? If not then the paint will chip or rub off really easily - I have so many old customs with the exact same issue. XD If you did seal it then I really have no idea, maybe the paint just couldn't adhere to the model properly!

  • omg i have a of schleihch pibold illd sell

  • you are amazing :)

  • you can also use water colours and they come out gr8 cool horse :)

  • Thanks for the detail, e.g. paint the consistency of milk. :) Are you thinning the paint with the standard craft paint thinner that's the same brand as the paint?

  • @AntikytheraDevice - I just use water, to be honest!

  • @ElreniaGreenleaf what was the first song called

  • @horsesaremylife31899 - 'Alasdair Mhic Cholla Ghasda' by Capercaillie. It took me forever to find out for you as I'd lost the cd I originally got it from so consider yourself lucky! XD

  • @AntikytheraDevice Acrylic Paint is all water based. If you were to use thinner the outcome would look disgusting...bad mix-up and art room. Paints like Acrylic, tempera, water color, latex...are all water based. Oil paint uses paint thinner. Most direction include the base.

  • like in the beginning what were u usin on ur model?

  • @goldenwebkinz09 - Oh you mean what did I prime her with? Well in the video I just used lots of layers of diluted white paint but nowadays I use spray primer (nothing special, just whatever I could find in homebase lol) which is much quicker and gives a much more even finish.

  • What were u using white paint cuz im buyin a model that is unpainted already and do not know what that is is it WHITE paint????? PLEASE comment back VERY VERY SOON

  • @goldenwebkinz09 - Sorry, you'll have to make that much more coherent, I don't have a clue what you're trying to ask me. :s

  • nevermind!

  • can i post a video of the foal i painted and get some constructive critism from you? i followed this video while making it

  • can i post a video of the foal i painted and get some constructive critism from you? i followed this video while making it

  • another thing u should say, make sure u have enough paint

  • @HorseLover52100

I thought that most people would know that. ;)

  • @ElreniaGreenleaf true, but u never know!

  • wow thats good

  • Thanks for a great tutorial! I have a Breyer that I'm going to customize, and now I know just how I'll do him...

    -RVvideos (SHSbreyers on MHL)

  • the manes a little dark.

  • thx im gonna start customising some breyers soon but im gonna make them look like my horse hobbit as he is piebald XD

  • very helpful! thanks!

  • What paint do you use?

  • I think it says in the video but in case you missed it, normal Acrylic paints. Since making this video I've really got into the ones made by 'Games Workshop' - they're really good.

  • ok, thank you very much, I resently tryed doing a custom but I used gloss (wrong paint lol) so its now shiny :/ but I ataully like it, what was your first custom like?

  • Awful, in a word. XD

Huge blobs of thick paint everywhere and eurgh, just awful. lol

  • for painting white in thin layers, would dampening your brush a bit help?

  • i did it on a few of my stablemates and some came out great! where did u get ur refrence pix? u no?

  • The internet mostly. It's not difficult to find good refs if you search for tobianos, gypsy cobs etc. :)

  • how do you make it so they dont have brush strokes?

  • Use lots and lots and lots of thin layers!Although thicker paint takes less time, the effects aren't as good overall.

  • kewl video what the first song on ur video

  • to help the black stand out

  • why do you need some many different colors before the black

  • As someone said, to help the black look less 'flat', although nowadays I tend to use pastels over a base coat of black acrylic. Drybrushing some dark brown over certain areas often creates a very good effect. :D

Hopefully I'll have time soon to make another painting tutorial of some kind. :)

  • btw. whats the song called? its awsome.

  • Alasdair Mhic Colla by Capercaillie. ;)

  • soooo cool! I'm going to try on a stablemate though. its smaller and cheaper so it wont really matter if i screw up!

  • coool i love schleich

  • can u customize one for me?

  • Sorry, but my books are closed at the moment as I'm so disorganised to take on more than a couple of commissions!

  • I will gotta try that too, but first i have to get a friesian scleich horse, lol, do the paint matter?

  • Well not really, strictly speaking, but acrylics are the best way to go if you are just starting off. Some people use Oils but they take a LOT of work and time and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it! lol

  • wow! she is such a beutiful horse

  • coool i love schleich

  • does the tail have to be black and the mane white?

  • It depends entirely on the reference picture. To put it simply, if colour touches the mane or tail then it will be coloured and if the white touches it, it'll be white.

  • Fresian To Gypsy Vanner, each more beatufial than the last

  • could u do this with breyer stablemates?

    and good job!

  • Yeah, you can do this with any scale... ;)

  • lol yay!

  • the song kinda scares me...but i'll try doing the piebald on one of my breyers! thanx

  • You know, I have the same schleich downstairs somewhere!

  • cool, if i have a double schleich someday I will paint it!!!

  • Wow!!

She now looks like a gypsy vanner horse!!! (my favourite!!)

    SOOO cute!!

I might customize one of mine!!! =D

  • lol gypsy vanners, irish cobs, gypsy cobs nad coloured cobs are kinda the same thing. ;)

  • did u know that in Mideval times a black horse stood for evil and a white horse was for good? i thought that was a kool fact

  • It's not only in Medieval times - throughout history the colour black represented evil and white - good. A load of nonsense but there you go. XD

  • really cool, i added u 2 my favorites :)

  • ooo lol haha whoopsO_O lol its pretty though;o) your a good artist! or painter?lol im too scared to do this on my frisian mare...im too scared that i'll mess it upO_O ahhhh

  • whats the name of the first song? it was very pretty:)and i love the frisian mare in this video! i have her:) lol want to paint her this color too thank u for posting!

  • Ummmmm....I actually can't remember. Isn't that sad? lol (My computer hates YT and I can't actually hear anything when I watch a video :( )I have a feeling I mentioned it in the credits for part two though...

  • just looked it up. It's Alasdair Mhic Colla by Capercaillie :)

  • Hey, Can you paint on schleich horses? I found they are cheaper and a good size, what do you think?

  • The horse in the tutorial WAS a Schleich. ;) lol

  • I knew that!...

  • wow your amazing if u get into breyer or scheilch (wrong spelling) lemme no ur models the will have a great home in my barn lol=} but im dead serious il uvv it

  • lol, I'm afraid all my horses are staying put at the moment! lol

  • oh thanks;p

  • nice but wat bout brush strokes?

  • If you use the right consistancy and work in lots of thin layers you shouldn't have any. ;) If it makes any difference, 'smudge' the paint on with an almost dry brush.

  • that horse looks really good!

  • i followed your tutorial! its easier on breyer coz there is no fur seeams

  • i have a brown and a yellow but could I make the pink with red and white?

  • You could..but I think it tends to look a bit fake. I'd add a bit of yellow to the red and add lots of white or else it'll end up 'pink' pink...if that makes sense.

  • These are soooo helpful! We <3 E_G!!!

    Loving the music too!

I've been inspired to make my fethering mucky ;)

    Thanks a lot

    Viki (THS on UH)

  • looks 100% better than the brown pony! your custom GV!!! i need some sleich!!

  • Excellent tutorial! I painted the sleich tinkermare to resemble my real live pony Blizz. But I love the friesian horse base you have used!!

Have you ever added feathering to sleich models?

  • Not yet, but I'm hoping to get a couple of bodies with my Xmas money and turn them into super-hairy horses! LOL The Clydesdale mare is talking to me..I think she'll need a lot of work done! lol

  • when you say the paint should be the consistency of milk do you mean that you add water?

  • Yeah, you just add a little bit and mix it up until it's the right consistency. Just remember to try it out on a bit of paper or spare model first in case it's too dilute. :) Hope it helps!

  • Wow! This has to be one of the most helpful tutorials I have watched! I can't believe it's not that popular!

  • wow thats good!when will part two come out?!

  • As soon as it's finished uploading! lol Sometime later this evening I should think. Glad to hear it made sense! lol

  • Ok, so it;s up and running now I think. :D
