omg... i´ve been searching for this track for soo long.
i was at a beach party with some friends, drinking cocktails all day, about 10 years ago. then they played this. i had a great time, but i was too drunk to ask the dj about the music... and later nobody could tell me what music that was (they were all drunk too ;) )
and now i just discovered it recently at another friend´s party :))
and by listening to it, the old memories of that beach party come back, as if it was yesterday.
"Mathar" by Dave Pike Set was the version that was popular in the 90s on the acid jazz scene. It was originally released in 1969, but still sounds as fresh and contemporary as ever.
@FREDWE5T No, but thank you for trying. The song I remember was on a custom 'tape'(god I am old) from a dj friend, and even though he played it all the time it might be some obscure b side or something so I will never find it. He would usually use it to lead into "little fluffy clouds'' or vice versa. they were not the same beat but for some reason they smoothly blended together. Anyway thanks for trying to help.
The paint is called "mahaavar", apart from being a cosmetic (like a tattoo) it is an indication that the woman is either unmarried, or has a husband who is alive, i.e. she is not a widow. There is another type of paint that is put on hands and feet, it is called Hina/Mehendi. It takes long to put, and takes long to wear off, so mahaavar is used as a short term solution.
Thank you so much! I was looking for this tune, searched the whole tube, but forget the title, finnaly found it :-) Have a great day, you've just made mine.
Check out the song Terrapin by Bonobo, it's here on youtube, and I suppose this kind of music is called fusion (cause it's a fusion of western and eastern music).
This is indeed a cover by Paul Weller but the original was called Mathar and was by a 60s jazz band called the Dave Pike Set. It was huge on the acid jazz dancefloors in the 90s
Dans cette danse toute la féminité dans sa splendeur, sa délicatesse, sa finesse, la féminité de la femme c'est sa virilité...Comment ne pas être transporté par la grace. cela paraît si simple, que de travail et de passion. JjS
I like this remix better than the original.

Does anyone remember a dance mix with this Sitar Jam that was around in about 1995 time? It was sped up just a little too.
I heard it in a club back then, and have never been able to find it since.
