  • i find it funny that videos like these are full of people that claim they are norse but they do not have the culture and they can not speak the language...

  • @NaXoth

    Alltför sant!

Dessutom är det bara idioter som är stolta över att ha en grupp mördande, smutsiga, rånande våldtäktsmän som förfäder.

English translation for non-Nordic people: Too true! And only retards are proud of being the descendants of a murdering, robbing, dirty group of rapists.

  • @LuciusCorneliusMacro

Just for the fun of it, name one culture that isn't.

  • @Chrthiel88

    ...the smurfs?

  • Someone plz give me some more info on Vikings cause in writing a story on them

  • @BadboyV22

Well first. DON'T look at this documentary. There are so many mistakes...

  • I'm trying to write a story and I need help on Vikings and I watch video after video but not enough info so anyone someone plz help me

    ....

  • I'm from a bloodline of Swedish vikings... Can't tell, cause today I can't fight for shit.

  • Why are you suddenly just talking about the origin of the Vikings?? The "descendants" as you call them, raided the coasts of europe, which most certainly not only came from norway probably not even the majority. Why only go by the very VERY early Vikings and ignore all the rest? Sorry but if you only consider the norwegian as Vikings then you are wrong indeed.

  • @KingCopper12 Read what Princessofthenile27 the comment below wrote to you. I can't said it better myself. From her comment you are wrong indeed. You been owned.

  • @KingCopper12 Very wrong indeed,

I live in the old "Danegeld' and that Anglo Saxon Dane culture is far from Norwegian.

We have village, towns and indeed family names that are Danish,Norse.Saxon and even Roman.

The English of my area are like a pattern welded sword of kith and kin but different tempers and types.

Together they make the "Englisc" people.

ENGLISC is not a misspelling but the actual spelling on the old English.

We had the same "Warrior culture" and still have.

  • @KingCopper12 the majority of vikings did come from Norway, Vikings came from Norway too. Norway was geographically perfect for the vikings. long story short, you sir need to get your facts right.

  • @thevikinggam3r

Eh the majority of vikings were from Denmark right? They were the most dangerous ones for sure. They conquered England.

The Swedish area was the most populated (most runestones are in Sweden). They created the first Russian state (where they were called people of Rus) and traded/fought the Byztanese. How can you say "vikings came from Norway" when in fact that was a cultural aspect that slowly grew forth in the nordic countries?

  • @thevikinggam3r

The majority of viking raids came from Denmark*

  • @thevikinggam3r Norway was the least populated Nordic country. Denmark was overpopulated which is why they started raiding. Majority of vikings were Danish.

  • this is history channel, they often overlook a lot of facts.

  • LOL WTF 1:53 watch and notice the samurai

  • is he really a green beret? he is holding the axe like a nun on a sailors dick :)

  • there all my Buddys BROTHERS OF VIKINGS HAILS BROTHERS

  • The Vikings was from denmark

  • @liverpoolfc42 they was from norway sweden and denmark

  • @natonorway They are from Norway not Sweden and Denmark

  • @LoneMyth Wrong. The vikings came from Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

  • @KingCopper12 See that why I am here to teach you Viking are from Norway. Now you learned

  • @LoneMyth

Well I wish you good luck rewriting history single handedly... Gonna have a hard time getting rid of all the evidence, speaking against your claims though ^^. Thanks for uploading anyway.

  • @KingCopper12 I don't need to rewrite history because I am going by historical evidence and Sciences. Good look try to prove the world wrong. Just to give you some advice if you say evidence make sure you present them because you just sound stupid. LMAO

  • @KingCopper12 Wrong. The people who were originally the Viking Raiders came off the coast of Norway and settled in areas of Denmark, Sweden, Britain, Russia, etc. Just because Viking people settled there doesn't make them a Viking people by right. It's like a broken record with you people. Yes they settled the area of Denmark/Sweden but it doesn't make it the origination point of the Vikings and it doesn't make all of their descendants Vikings either. Give me a break lol.

  • @Princessofthenile27 ehhh what are you talking about? please explain to us then what makes a "viking people by right".

  • @Princessofthenile27 also a source plz that viking raiders off the coast of norway settled in denmark and sweden.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWYEEEEEEEEEEEEAHH! norwegian power!!

  • Thanks so much fot this

  • Makes me pissed that viking warriors are compared Hells Angels faggots

  • "Im part of a long line of unique warriors..."

    lol and sigh

  • Nords.

  • I like that some of the vikings has samurai armor

  • @sakalaka1337 fucking lol, not only the samurai wore lamelar armour...

  • @sakalaka1337 not samurai armor but close .

  • @sakalaka1337 That is not a samurai armor but it looks close to it. The Vikings, the swedish/russian Varangians, the russian Bogatirji and Byzantines wore this armor.

  • these ppl r just like the Nords... Hail Talos!!!

  • @marctheman001 um...that's exactly where the game developers got the idea of creating that race.In fact "nord" literally means "north" in french, likely german, and a few other languages of europe."nord" simply means "northman".So I see nothing surprising that nords look like vikings.......and yes, nords are my favorite race in the game...not being racist...just like it.

  • NORDS!!!

  • Vikings! The original Marines (:

  • Norway looks like a Penis

  • @Sp4ceInv4der Ugly penis you got then.

  • I had no idea a Viking battle happened in my home town

  • Did you see that one of the "vikings" wore samurai armour, haha lol

  • @mathiaserikson Samurai weren't the only warriors who wore lamellar.

  • "Viking" doesn't mean "sea raid". In comes from the word "vikingr" which in English basically means "people of the bays". What do you expect when you have a green beret narrating? He probably has an IQ below 60 and has only ever "fought" defenseless civilians.

  • @reyter2007 The etymology of "Viking" is somewhat unclear.

  • Fucking hell, I've been looking for this show for months now. Granted its not the most accurate but its still an interesting watch.

  • Hells angels of the middel ages... thats american TV for ya...

  • i didnt know the vikings wear samurai armor one of em is :)

  • Per Anderson guy looks like Thor...

  • 5:55 these dudes :D

  • Somehow I think a hell's angel would run away in fear from any Viking.

  • Maces can easily break through mail. Flanged too

  • these guys are the extras from the amon amarth video twilight of the thundregods

  • Vikings really need more respect.

  • An army is nothing without its backbone. A culture is nothing without its backbone. Technology and information is what made this possible.

There is more dis-information available than actual information about this time-period.

Really, we are cluless of most shit in our own history.

  • @olemann77 What made what possible?

This is part of the school curriculum in the UK, starting at first school. World history has always been the biggest subject. I know its a different situation in American state schools.

  • watching this show is better than watching deadliest warrior.

  • I got the Triple Horn of Odin tattoo today on my shoulder.. It's a good feeling to have such a respected and well known culture and ancestry in my blood.. The Vikings may be gone and history, but their blood still runs through people's veins, and I am proud to so that I am one!

  • read the sagas....

  • Ver shu gu!

Yev ar Greg at GregLeeUSA@Gmail.Yev kamma fra San Francisco.

Yer like Norway so very much. Tu sen tak.

  • I thought Vikings includes all people in Northern Europe, not just Norway?

  • @Vosloff You're right. The Swedes, Norwegians, and Danes all had raiding warriors known as Vikings, but it's not like the whole population were. Most were farmers in the Viking Age.

  • @Vosloff No , not just norway. Sweden and denmark were also ''Vikings'' Im from sweden and ofcourse im a bit proud when i watched this video, it shows how feared people were against us back then.:)

  • @wowliraren12345 It was teh Norwegian vikings that did all teh cool stuff... btw Norway beated Swedens ass :P

  • @Joern1066 The Danes conquered and created the Danegäld in the West, Raided Paris and plundered it e.t.c

The Swedes had their bussines to the East, Founded the Kievan rus, Created a thousend mile trading network through the rivers to Constantinopel and Bagdad, Founded the Varangian Guard e.t.c Sweden didnt excist back then, Todays Sweden were divided into three smaller countries (Svithiod(Realm of the Swedes) and Geatland and Gutland). What did the Norwegians do except raiding monasteries?

  • I don't understand, why does people think of Norway when they think about Vikings?

Norway sucks. Sweden was the real deal, we made russia and went al the way to bagdad!

  • @Burkbiten2 You go man!

  • @Titanwriter Thank´s dude.

  • Yankees should NOT make documentaries.. They allways get facts wrong.. And never look at the whole picture.. Simple minded fools.. Stick to your american crap history..

  • Is it just me or the guy with red shirt and golden armor seems to wear "samurai" armor?

  • @rimidalvetarak it just a style of laminar armour maybe

  • (barbarians,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,vikings) uncivilized (savage, primitive)χαχχαχαχαχαχχαχαχχαχαχαχαχαχαχαχαχαχαχααχαααα(ANYONE NOT GREEKS IS A BARBARIANS)ESOCRATES 436-338..π.Χ

  • @isokraths2010 Any bad Greek is to me a barbarian, any good barbarian is to me a Greek - Alexander the Great.

  • Why are people always so damn agro in the comment sections on these kinds of videos? It's a tv show, damn right it won't be 100% accurate, but it's accurate enough for the layperson. You know, non-scholars, the people most likely to be watching? So what if they didn't get every little detail right, it's still cool and informative enough that if someone is interested, they'll go out and research it themselves. Chill out, and watch the fucking video.

  • @HoundofOdin That defeats the entire purpose of a "history channel"

  • No it doesn't.

  • @HoundofOdin Yes it does. "history channel" implies a channel based on complete historic fact and evidence rather than something that is based on historic evidence.

  • Look dude, it's a tv show for average people, not scholars. Going into complete historical detail would take way too long for the time allowed. So chill the fuck out. Would you toss out your favorite book because you found a spelling error?

  • @HoundofOdin I think your the only one who needs to chill the "fuck out". Your the only one here that's going mental. I'm stating my opinion. It's called the History Channel, they say that it is history they are teaching. Now in my view, If they are not going to teach 100% fact then it shouldn't claim to be teaching history. They should be claiming that it is based on history or that is is general history. Would a toss out my favourite book because I found out a spelling error? No

  • @Malusregnum It's a 60 minute TV show, which is supposed to be entertaining. If you can't understand this simple fact, they I don't know what you're doing in here, instead of library.

  • @Morr1992 I think you need to calm down, alright? I'm entitled to my criticism as is anyone who wants to point out the historic inaccuracies in this documentary. Quite honestly, if this is what documentaries has come to these days, "entertainment", I think it's a shame. If you want entertainment about Vikings then I suggest that you watch something like deadliest warrior or 1066. Documentaries are mean't to be factual, yes, a bit of entertainment is good, but not so that it becomes inaccurate.

  • Respond to this video... I would however question the publisher who published the book to have a spelling mistake.

  • @HoundofOdin u realise american historical shows focus more on sensation and entertainment foreign shows are informative. This goes for alot of things. like Gordan ramsey's kitchen nightmare went from informative 100% to informative 10% drama and family bitching 90%

  • Yeah, shows like this do focus on the most sensational aspects, but they can't just tell outright lies like some of the people commenting seem to think.

  • Okay, I've seen enough dudes bullshitting left and right about, samurai this, and chainmail that, and spartans rule. Whoever is using Deadliest Warrior as a source needs to stop. It's a fun show riddled with historical inaccuracies. Secondly, reenactment chainmail with the ring bent closed is awful. That's why the celtiberians who invented it around 4th century BCE used rings with a rivet to close them securely. It was strong as hell. That's why it was the best armor up until plate armor.

  • @zdkezios that's not to say that mail was impenetrable. hand weapons like axes, falchions and other anti-mail swords, heavy lances, and maces and ranged weapons like bodkin points and crossbow bolts could break the rings or force between them with enough force. the point was that the average infantry sword, curved or straight, asian or european, was not made properly to break apart or penetrate through the tightly bound rings with either the cut or the thrust.

  • I expected much worse, but this infotainment is pretty decent. No bullshit detected, about how stupid, stinky and smelly europeans were with their crude technology, in comparison with "superior enlightened East". One of the few docu's of History Channel which also features real experts like Colin Richards and not those theatrical fencing clowns like Goodwin or Woodward.

  • @Protherium Hooray for the superior enlightened east \o/.

  • Bloody hell ... comparing an entire culture with a lame biker gang? It doesn't get any more glib than that! History for drunks ...

  • @Rikitocker Yeah, unlike motor gangs the Viking werent covinists. Theyr women had the best equality in Europe.

  • @Rikitocker history for Americans... but who really cares.

  • @Rikitocker yea i now

  • @Rikitocker ...Not all members of the Viking culture were raiders and pirates, just as only a small percentage of motorcycle riders are members of an outlaw biker gang. In fact, the majority of Vikings were traders and not raiders. That is the essence of what he was trying to say with the comparison to the Hells Angels....that is, those Vikings who were actually doing the raiding were a small segment of their society just as the biker gangs are with ours.

  • @Rikitocker I dont think you get it.

  • Comment removed

  • "Hells Angels of the middle ages??"

Schouldnt it be the other way around. Helsl Angels is the vikings of modern day

  • @Sersons There is one quick way to resolve an argument like that "Can a Samurai's sword cut through Chainmail? No. And what armour did the Viking's wear?" Not to mention the Viking's perfected their swords in the Ninth century, a perfect mix of Iron and Steel, both high and low carbon, the Samurai managed that in the Sixteenth century.

  • @Feostru actually the Katana blade dates back to at least the kamakura period (1185-1333AD) and were themselves based on an earlier blade called the Tachi which was longer and more curved then the modern Katana blade, so the samurai and vikings probably perfected the technique need to make forged steel at around the same time, however a viking longsword does have greater strength (being wider and thicker then a katana) and longer reach so the advantage would probably go to the viking

  • Norway ftw

  • why is it only mentioningnorway?? we all know that sweden and denmark (especially denmark) were also the homes of the vikings aswell.

  • @Salvus967 Norway was under Danish rule pretty much during this era if I remember correctly .. But Norwegians and Danish vikings is mostly those who traveled west to the UK while the Swedish traveled East towards Russia and South to the Arab countries (also known as Särkerna during the viking age)

  • Surely the Vikings actualy means 6 kings in latin , i want to see a documentary that goes further into the past and talks about how the VIkings actualy came from the tribe of daniel , jewish people displaced thosandsof years ago ,, there descendants now occupy the throwns or the west , and the corperate banking ellite are also mainly descended from this bloodline ,,,, o wait why dont i just make it lol

  • viking = sea raid?! really, i thought it meant "journey" to be a man of the vik is to be a traveller ... orgionally, that's what the term meant and then it came to mean going on a raid!

  • i hate that they dont show the swedes and the danes as vikings

  • @RasmusTheFox true! swedes and danes were great vikings too, however, back in the days norway sweden and denmark were kinda the same.

  • @sondaime100 you may prefer the samurais but doesn't mean the samurai is better warrior compare to the Vikings. In history Vikings accomplish more in there era.

  • @LoneMyth samurai existed in a different period than the vikings. but despite what the vikings accomplished, i believe that ancient asian armies were superior to western ones by a great deal.if a viking army met a samurai one on a fictional field of battle, i would be willing to bet that the samurai would devestate the vikings.the samurai were far more versatile, with spear, archer, katana and mounted warriors, while vikings fought mainly as a heavy infantry force. wouldn't be enough.

  • @Salvus967

I doubt that. Vikings were very strong warriors and had good defence and offence. They also knew how to ride horses and kill your opponent quickly. They had an arrey of weapons that the samurai would never expect. The eastern world is in my opinion highly overrated. The katana is not the best weapon and european warriors did not just hit each other with an sword and hoping for the best. Lastly, the samurai would hate the viking shield, used on offence and defence.

  • The Vikings used horses for mobility. When they arrived at a location, they would dismount and fight on foot. They were not warhorses. And the Samurai were experts at killing quickly. The average viking would have been bigger than the average samurai, this might give them an individual advantage. But overall, a samurai army would be more mobile, and the vikings would likely be overwhelmed, much as the Goths were overwhelmed by the Huns. Asian armies were superior. sad but true.

  • @Salvus967

No i do not agree. There were viking horseman troops. I feel that you are under the impression still that vikings are just raiders who could not think good. Viking armour was exelent against the weapons of the samurai and would have saved them a whole lot. also the bigger size of the viking means that they can take bigger blows and deliver bigger punches. a lot of people think that the eastern were superior, which is not true. otherwise they would have taken us.

  • @Mortalkombat17 No I know they did more than raid. I like history very much& am quite aware of vikng history.my parents are from England& I know all about the Viking invasions of the island, aswell as the heroic anlgo-saxon defense against them.I'm not denying that the vikings were formidable but asian armies covered more angles than european ones.& the most powerful ancient asian nations were to far away,& also inwardlooking rather than outward looking, which was fortunate for europe.

  • @Salvus967

I am still not convinced that the asians covered more angles. Defence for example. Also the samurai missed the shield and it really hurt. Mongols for examplew did have shields and i think they might have beaten the vikings, but the chinese not. But at least im glad to see that your not an empty minded dozo that only thinks that the chinese and japanese were invincible because of anime, manga and because people keep saying that

  • @Mortalkombat17 No, I draw all my comclusions only from books and what i've read from credible internet sources. I love european history, and I particularly am intrigued by the germanic tribes and nations that existed in the past. I am not controlled, however, by bias. When u read about ancient asian militaries and the amazing ingenuity which they posessed (many people, equals many great minds i suppose) it is hard to deny their military superiority over europeans in ancient times.

  • @Salvus967 GREAT JOB SUMMARIZING.

  • @Salvus967 Actually the asian warriors including the samurai are not superior to European warriors. You clam there is credible internet sources that can back up option which in fact there is no such sources. I know for a fact you believe the asian warrior myth like Samurai and the Ninja. A european Knight, Vikings, Hoplite and Legions accomplish empires and done more than the fail Asian Warriors.

I suggest you quiet know before I own you. I know my History and I don't buy the myth like you.

  • @LoneMyth There are a ton of credible sources on the internet. I'm not even gonna bother listing them because there are to many. And also you obviously can't know that much about history if you think that Asians never achieved empires. Again, there are to many to list so I wont even bother. And lastly, you are using the Spike TV show "Deadliest Warriors" as a credible source which proves that you are a dimwit. The Katana question has already been addressed. Sit down and shut up.

  • @Salvus967 The dimwit person is you. The reason you won't bother listing you're so called sources because there isn't any. You are the type of person who grew up watching power rangers and ninja turtles. I gave you a list of my claim and you couldn't rebuttal me. You gave no source or evidence. Deadliest warrior even thou they have there faults but it is the closet to the warrior skill and strength to there abilities. Remember you wrote to my channel so shut up before I will embarrassed you.

  • @Salvus967 I love owning you. Do yourself a favor please learn history and enough of your fanboyism. You're not even close to knowing history compare to me. I knew a phalanx and greek and roman history before the popular media and stupid people like you ever knew about it. Keep watching you're saturday morning cartoon and leave the real history to me boy. :)

  • @LoneMyth The European empires are some of the worlds most impressive and I love studying them. But in terms of size Gengis Khan's empire was larger than Rome and even Alexander the Great's. It was the largest in Ancient times. I'm not sure if it is the largest ever, as I'm not sure how much was covered in the French and British colonial times. I don't feel like looking it up now. lol

  • @jmikejapan First of all Alexander conquered 90% of the known world at Alexander time. Alexander was conquering civilization where the money is at. Gengis Khan conquered empty meaningless land. May I add Alexander conquered on foot with a slow moving phalanx. May I add alexander never lost a battle. Gengis Khans never fought great empires like Persia at there prime never conquered Greece and not even roman. Look it up LOL

To bad Asia can't compare to europe. LOL XD

  • @LoneMyth I'm well aware of those facts. I was just stating that it was the largest in size.

But I can see that for some reason you have a problem with Asia. And just so you know, despite what my username may hint to, I'm not Asian. I'm White.

But it is nice to know you are a racist , stuck up, pretentious asshole.

  • @jmikejapan I am glade you are aware of that facts And you admit those are facts that also mean you are wrong you are. I am not racist I gave no comments that says otherwise. I love all cultures. But there is one thing I hate the most is Fanboys like yourself you bag of shit.

You are right to call me an Asshole because I just crap you out. LOL

  • @LoneMyth Im asian, but I agree that Alexander the Great is a way more awesome historical figure than Genghis Khan, though the mongol empire is still really nothing to sneeze at.

  • @Salvus967 For example Deadliest Warrior the Ninja and the Samurai lost to the Spartan. Samurai armor is made out of wood and the katana is weak sword at best. That why the samurai Katana can't break through weak armor like the chainmail.

Remember the Samurai Myth that the Katana can cut through anything and I know you are one of those people. LMAO.

  • @LoneMyth Samurai armor is made out of layers of leather and covered in metal. Very little wood if any would be used. Some times layers of lacquered bamboo were used for certain parts of the armor. The Katana is a great sword, but no one weapon has it all. Not even the katana. That is why there are so many different types of weapons and for many different purposes.

And the Samurai beat the Viking, but the ninja lost to the Spartan, if I'm not mistaken.

  • Romans were much better at this concept than the vikings... The Romans learned this through the Carthaginians, which learned it from the pheonocians....

  • too bad my boys kicked their soory asses out of the americas lol much love to the northmen

  • Best warriors at that time, im Icelandic and proud to have viking blood in me.

  • 'hundreds if not thousands of these longboats' - is this man a retard? A Viking fleet of even a hundred boats would have been considered absolutely massive. Armies in these days were small, a thousand men on either side at the most.

  • @Calisafoo If that could do it, most battles between scandinavian chieftains were more like fights than a real battle of maybe a hundred men at the most.

  • Ehhh Terry's being a little goofier and more infantile than usual here

  • this documentary is so retarded i cant belive

  • @TheModafaka really tell me why that is so I can see how stupid you are.

  • @TheModafaka it's not retarded, it's the History Channel, but I can see why you would confuse the two

  • @TheModafaka why is it retarded?

  • @TheModafaka Shut up, jackass.

  • @audishot one of the greatest

  • @LoneMyth

Spartans v vikings. Who wins? Both great warriors but i have to say spartans. ;)

  • @womblewandering that is a tough one. I love the Huge axe. But I have to say is spartan because they have Pankration and there weapons are well rounded

  • @LoneMyth

I get your point. Yeah i choose spartans cos they really were tough. Their whole life was dedicated to war.

Vikings are very tough too, especillay the berserkers.

  • @LoneMyth Hmm, bronze armour, and mostly bronze (or at best, iron) weapons vs steel armour, (chainmail) and steel weapons. The Vikings technology was considerably more advanced than the Spartens. Remeber, the Roman legions beat hopoliteswithout too much problem, and then got defeated by races using much the same tactics as the Vikings. So my money would be on the Vikings tbh. The Spartens were the best in their day, but time marches on....

  • @zednotzee7 Nevermind the fact that Vikings were considerably larger than the Spartans. ;)

  • @zednotzee7 yes vikings has the more up to date technology. But a Spartan is the better warrior in skill, strength and Tactics. Even with the Vikings weapons it won't go through bronze armor and the Hoplon. And it is easy to go through chainmail. Spartan seen it all before. With you're logic the Ninja has steel weapons and still lost to the spartan. Remember viking shield is weak and small.

It is not the weapon that wins But the warrior who wields the weapon. :)

  • @LoneMyth Sorry, but your logic is faulty. If bronze was that good, no-one would have bothered with iron and then steel. There were no such things as Ninjas in 480 BC, so the Spartans couldn't have beaten them, lol. Oh, and the Spartans would definately never have seen chainmail, nor something as devastating as the Viking axe :)

  • @zednotzee7 see you miss the point but that is expected from you. Having better metals doesn't mean better warrior. Second of all Chainmail is weak armor and the chainmail was invented in the ancient times by the romans. And the big axe is also been use in the ancient time by the Ancient greek Minoans. I have rebuttal you're calm but you yet to rebuttal me. I hope you learn some history before you come at me with foolish limited knowledge. You fail again. :)

  • @zednotzee7 See that how stupid you are. When I mention Ninja I was referring to the show Deadliest Warrior. It is a computer simulation that took account on weapons and armor and the spartan had to face the ninja and spartan came out on top and the samurai. Look it up. :)

And Vikings didn't came up with the huge axe it goes further back to the Ancient Greek Minoans, Gauls, Germania. Spartan seen it all before. LOL XD

  • @zednotzee7 I am shamed of you. You are from the UK and you suppose to already know this. UK has a huge museums and books on Ancient Greece. And to top it all your 53 years old and I proved I am intellectual superior to you. What a shame. :)
