can i use this with a keyboard instead of a guitar?? im a dj and want to incorporate a keyboard into my setup and do some live looping. would this work??
Good job man! I have a couple questions; What do you think of the new RC-300? And, what do you think about using Abelton Live with laptop and midi control as compared to using Boss pedals? Obviously using Abelton gives many more options but costs much more for a good set-up. You seem to be doing fine with the RC-50 and no worries about computer crashing during performance. I've been using the RC-20 and I'm ready to upgrade. Decisions, decisions.
This has been my favourite Youtube tune for three years now. I've even bought a Boss RC50 on the strength of it. PLEASE do an iTunes recording of it - after all, if 350,000 viewers had all given you 99p, that wouldn't be too bad, eh? ;-)
@Thumbshifter Hey man, thanks for the good vibes! I'm making a recording of this for iTunes right now for you and everyone else who's asked. Sorry it's taken so long :) Follow me on twitter for updates: JonnyisWright

Nice. That stuff is WAY harder than it looks. Just try it out in a guitar store some time and you'll see how tough getting the timing just right is...heh. Yeah I thought of buying one of those to do some live looping at cafes and open mics.
@m0nkeystu You should check out a couple of sweet vids I've found of Artists using this pedal. This one: watch?v=GjEsAEsYCw4 and watch?v=JhjA2nvVD7U are awesome!

This is awesome! Really a good song and I cannot stop listening to it. It would be a nice song to play as well. Are the chords / tabs and lyrics available somewhere or can you consider publishing them somewhere?
After watching this, I went out and bought an RC50 and fired my band the next day! I have seen dozens of loopers at festivals through out out North America, but the traditional style becomes too repetitive for my liking.....this however is something completely different. If you ever feel like doing a workshop on using the RC50, I would gladly fly to the UK to attend.

@jaypem23 Hi, thanks. How to loop a 4 beat percussion on, say Phrase One, then record guitar loop on another Phrase that's longer than first Phrase loop? I want second Phrase to loop by itself. @whipperdon You want to turn Loop Sync off. This way you can record, say, a 4 beat percussion loop, then 8, 12, 16, 20 etc beat loops on the other two phrases. If you want to do 4 beat percussion and 6 beat (non-multiple of 4) guitar loop you need to either play it twice, or turn tempo sync off for the individual phrases. Can easily get out of time if you're stomping isn't perfect. Watch some tutorials, you'll pick up bits from most of them. And read the book haha - sorry. It's pretty helpful!
@jaypem23 Thanks my friend - that's what I thought... but Johnny seems to be doing something else, doesn't he? So what if he pre-recorded a phrase? It's a great song and great talent. Plus, he played it all himself and it seems to me that what we're all interested in is the end result.
Jaypem - I like your version- you don't have studio, limiters, etc going, but you rock, man. Check out John Gilliat RC demo - looks like he records just by tapping the phrase pedals...? Beats me???
@JoblessMusic Most of the song IS genuine, the only bit I can't figure out is the background riff on Phrase 3 (which runs behind the chorus). The phrase is on one shot so the whole chorus length is (probably) only one loop, and there hasn't been an opportunity for him to play it anywhere earlier in the song. This makes me think the line must be played and looped as a 'warm-up' when performing live, and just isn't shown in this video. Great song, quite skillful use of his RC-50!
Im not sure about all you said. I think that on the chorus, there is a phrase pre-recorded. But Im not sure about all the song. I have the BOSS RC50 too, and if "loop synch" is off, you can have a different size of phrase.
Sorry Im a french, so it's difficult to explain it in english.
This is really great- you could make it even better if you apply an octaver to your guitar and make it sound like you have a bass. It would really fill out the sound.
Very nice! I aspire to this sort of thing myself. It's inspiring to see what is capable with a little creativity. I love the song, too, by the way. Great stuff!

im planning on buying this pedal to do a show to loop multiple instruments on stage. How did you make this work? is the RC-50 the only system you used? any advice is appreciated, thanks
@basswiz909 I'm trying to figure out the same thing and I HAVE an RC-50. I get how he does the first part, it's not hard, but I don't get how he did the chorus, he kept some phrases going and move to a new one somehow, unless all chords work together.

Excellent stuff, Jonny. Great balance and a catchy tune!
I have a question you may be able to answer - I currently have the RC-20xl, and find it REALLY hard to keep the mic from feeding back while also looping the guitar (mic input is quiet - really need to boost it). Do you find this to be a prob with the RC-50, or does the phantom power boost the mic signal enough to avoid feedback? You don't seem to have a prob in this vid! Any help is appeciated. Nice work, and thx.
Any fellow RC50 users able to help? I'm confused how, after the drop, he manages to bring the backing vocals back in sync. I know you can do that with 'loop sync', but when you use that you can't record a new phrase that is longer than the original, but in the vid you can see the percussive bit is only one bar and he records longer phrases, so i dunno :/
his use of the boss pedal is BOSS, but what about his other pedals? i love his sound, can anyone identify what else he's using? i know there's a boss chromatic tuner, but i can't identify the rest.
Most of the people that buy the rc-50 because of videos do it because of these videos. But I disagree with IsisWade, it's probably DUB FX that is making it happen, just like jeremy ellis sells the maschine. Don't get me wrong, sick song, and definitely keep doing what your doing.
Really good. Does anyone know how to get loops of different bar lengths staying in time in one patch (multi mode of course)? I can't get it to happen. They just stray out of time with each other.
You're looping skills inspire me! I bought my RC50 off of my boyfriend and I hope I can be as good as you one day. You're amazing. Absolutely love this song and this video! good luck on tour keep up the great work!
i can't understand how it could not be useful for live stuff... watch some Dub FX thingys, THAT is live and he spontanous. This Loop-Station is soooo awesome for jamming, as well as playing live

THIS VIDEO IS FAKE!
NOT LIVE - NOT REAL...
The first phrase has only 4 clocks - the second phrase needs 8 (!) clocks for the A & the F!
AND THE FIIRST PHRASE ITS NOT ON RECORD ON START! ITS PLAYBACK!!!
The song was completely pre-produced and is available only half playback by tapping the button .... the only thing that is live, his voice is ...
FAKE! DISLIKE!
It lights up the whole video is not a red record lights!

JoblessMusic 6 months ago
@JoblessMusic Most of the song IS genuine, the only bit I can't figure out is the background riff on Phrase 3 (which runs behind the chorus). The phrase is on one shot so the whole chorus length is (probably) only one loop, and there hasn't been an opportunity for him to play it anywhere earlier in the song. This makes me think the line must be played and looped as a 'warm-up' when performing live, and just isn't shown in this video. Great song, quite skillful use of his RC-50!

I just wanted to tell you how inspiring this is. I'm going to go pick one of these pedals up as soon as I can.

Any fellow RC50 users able to help? I'm confused how, after the drop, he manages to bring the backing vocals back in sync. I know you can do that with 'loop sync', but when you use that you can't record a new phrase that is longer than the original, but in the vid you can see the percussive bit is only one bar and he records longer phrases, so i dunno :/

his use of the boss pedal is BOSS, but what about his other pedals? i love his sound, can anyone identify what else he's using? i know there's a boss chromatic tuner, but i can't identify the rest.
help anyone?

Most of the people that buy the rc-50 because of videos do it because of these videos. But I disagree with IsisWade, it's probably DUB FX that is making it happen, just like jeremy ellis sells the maschine. Don't get me wrong, sick song, and definitely keep doing what your doing.

Really good. Does anyone know how to get loops of different bar lengths staying in time in one patch (multi mode of course)? I can't get it to happen. They just stray out of time with each other.
