good you got injection, that saves guessing. we all had aftermarket tires (bighorns 12x12x26), but stock tires are perfectly fine. stock tires will take you anywhere we went. punctures are the only concern and they can happen to any tire. overnight, i really don't know. i know when we were there we didn't see anyone. we stayed in ouray. also plan on towing to trailheads unless your street legal in your st. call ouray, silverton, lake city, ect better bus bureau for good up to date info.
Thanks for the additional info. It looks like there's an RV park south of Lake City where you can setup camp and leave on UTVs without trailering, which we prefer. Another ?: in that area, is there enough sight-seeing for 4 days? Thought about renting a Jeep at RV park and heading over to Telluride (Ophir Pass) and returning through Ouray (Imogene Pass). Can't wait!
Lake City is a great place to use as a home base. Do check on license requirements for driving orv's on roads. Call Camber of Commerse and ask for info on this as you will still have to drive on roads to get to trail heads. I know last year they just turned their head and ignored the requirements. It is a real mixed bag depending on where you are. Check. There is enough to see and do for a month easy. Your going to have a great time.
@Turnhog If you rent a Jeep there's absolutely no reason (other than the simple fear factor) that you shouldn't run down Black Bear Pass. It's the single most gorgeous view you'll ever get in your life span.
Purchasing an '08 700 so the carb is not a problem. Did you run stock tires or aftermarket? Do people camp overnight or is that allowed? Thanks for help.
i jetted down to a 142 main jet and it still ran fat at 12k+ feet. if you have a 700 with injection, then it shouldn't be a problem. expect some loss of power. carry tire repair kits and air pump. we didn't get any flats, just lucky. we all had cdi's, and they helped a lot by eliminating rev limiter. carry extra steering heim joints, extra axles (if you have them) and tires (if you have them). this is an awsome place for rhino's and rzr's. don't be afraid to use low range. pm me for mor
Thanks for the info and assistance in making our plans. I know that we'll have a great week in CO.
