yes it was based on those plans. I also provide a free pdf file containing the part list. Thanks, Steve you can request them at steve@seven1studios dot c o m
It looks like a lot of people are asking about plans. This looks like it was based on the one on PrintingPlans dot c o m. There are free plans there for a four color press there.
This is by far one of my most favorite videos of all time, totally love it you did a great job man i gotta build me one of these bad boys looks like fun.
No problem, good luck with your build! The "L" shaped aluminum is just that, a piece of angle aluminum. Home Depot should have it. Although, I believe it only comes in a 48" piece (I can't remember, just more than you'll need) I cut mine at 9" with my miter saw with no problems. Use a countersink bit to keep your screw heads flush. I would spend the extra few bucks for a good hinge - the best one I found was $13. it had no play at all.
@Stavros71 Holy crap. I saw those. I remember looking at these tall L-shaped poles thinking "Nope. Everything on youtube was way smaller." LMAO!!! I'm an idiot. Lol.
A few others mentioned hinges that started to slack-up, so yeah, warning heeded. I'll at very least be knocking the base table out this weekend, making sure to build one to a comfortable working height. I'll keep you posted. Thanks, again. Oh, & nice site layout. Love the black on white tee baseball stick figure design.
@Stavros71 Thanks, dude. Really appreciate it. I was in Lowes for about two hours tonight, pricing and finding materials. Lol. Want to start my build, this weekend. I priced lights, light switches, and glass (for the light box), 2x4s, and Lauan Plywood (what I'll probably be making the platen out of, but will still be checking the white board, per your recommend), springs, and hinges. What I didn't find is the aluminum-looking piece you're using to hold the screen to the clamps. What is that?
Question? Did you make the platen yourself, and if so, what type of wood did you use? The rest of the build looks like normal 2x4's, but I can't figure out what you made the platen from. Btw, incredible build. I've been going through tubes for a couple weeks, and your build is at the top of my list. Thanks.
ludwig362 - sorry I do not have blue prints. I really made it off the cuff with no plans. After using it now for a few months, there are things I'd definitely change - platen arm is too long, I'd spend more money on a better door hinge, maybe shorten that arm so there's less chance of play. I do like to build things so maybe in the near future I'll make the 2.0 version and draw up some blue prints.
I recommend aluminum screens although they may have a tendency to kick out when you are trying to tighten them. rather than using washers gorilla glued to your clamps, you can just use a wooden paint stick between the clamps and the screen and that will protect your screens and stop the kick out action when tightening.
nice job. i am looking at building something like this for over size prints. is it pretty solid when you pull a shirt on it or do you have to be careful not to push hard?
Yo bro! try picking up some $20 dollar Hinge Clamps from an Art Supply store or online from maybe blick or something "Speedball" makes a pair of these they are way better then C clamps. im building a Screen press ill try to put up My Videos soon.
Thanks! Sorry for the poor sound quality and my mumbling - 1st time video. I've since used the press and it works well, I may make another one. Shorten the arm and make the whole thing a little more compact. I'd love to see other designs, especially the detachable platens.
I drilled holes in the side of the C-Clamps and then screwed them to the blocks of wood
Stavros71 4 weeks ago
How are the C-Clamps mounted on there like that? Did you screw them into the wood or something?

I only built one. I never intended to build more for sale. Maybe in the Spring I could build a few if there's more demand.

Yes, I made the platen out of white board from Home Depot - shelving material. It's been working very well. Thanks for your comments.
I'll be posting a new video soon showing the entire set up in operation.

Very solid as long as you attach the braces that extend out from the bottom of the table
