  • that block sure is pertty

  • do you guys run it through a VAT first?

  • @VintagedreamcarsV8 - No, the dirtier the better.

  • How much does this usually cost for a customer to have done?

  • @WOTGTP98 Thermal cleaning runs about $100.

  • @fiatnutz

All that for just $100???? It looks brand new now!

Everything else is a ripoff compared to that.

  • @fiatnutz That's it? Damn. The shop in my area charges $100 to just throw it in a hot tank.

  • guess I need to give you call John

  • John does your talents have no limits? I must say I have been watching your videos since one of my galantvr4,org members(the boz) recommended you I can see that you are truly passionate about what you do, old school with pizzaz mixed with new age technology awesome. I do have a 2.0l 4g63t that will need a rebuild soon do you do full rebuilds or just machine work.

    Thanks

  • @dman856 - I do mostly machine work, but do full rebuilds when I have the time. Thanks for the kind works.

  • if the block doesn't need to be re-bored will this process ruin the bore finish ?

can it be simply honed or will the bore finish be so rough that it need to be re-bored ?

  • John, I've got the same question. I've got a block that only needs rings. Is this process ok If I only plan on honing?

  • @shodanxx - It's not a problem, we do this all the time, but I would recommend you have your block honed on a machine, and not by hand.

  • you work for chevy??

  • Why wouldnt you take all the freeze plugs and oil galley plugs out first? I run a Ampro/Sunnen machine that can easily do a V12 cat block and mabey 8 small blocks at a time, and my experience is that the shot gets stuck behind the plugs, also any plugs that are left in after cooking will leak.I really enjoy your videos.

  • just to have the engine cleaned like this how much would it cost?

  • @swordsman2070 Blocks tend to cost around $80, two heads if done at the same time are $70 for the pair.

  • does epa come and bother you john? heh if you know what I mean.

  • Yeah, the permit fees for this setup is around $1100 a year.

  • ouch and do you have limit that your allow to burn?

  • 22 tons, of which i burn about 6 a year.

  • not bad and how do you know how much you burn?

  • I have to keep a log of how much goes in, pretty much an educated guess, but fairly accurate none the less.

  • nice well I will swing by sometime when I am free. thanks for info!

  • Very Cool

  • i have a smallblock chevy 283 what does it normally cost to do this? i want to do this to mine

  • nice educational vids man!

  • That tumbler doesn't use any kind of fluid? Wouldn't there be powerized dirt or whatever clinging on to cast iron surfaces that wouldn't come by just by rotating and rocking back and forth?

  • No remember he said stainless steel powder media

  • Wow beauityful even at step 2!

  • 10/10 bro keep up the good work

  • 2.28 Please John Please, throw those socks away!! Great vid,s thanks John.

  • I don't know why but I find these videos fascinating. I love watching this stuff get done and explained to me. I wish I knew how to do this stuff - it seems like fun and you probably get to meet some cool people in the process.

  • i feel the same way, john has me wanting to work in a machine shop now! probably only his, he seems like a cool cat who's willing to really put the R&D in R&D

  • @fictioussentiment Well it even gets me interested :) sometimes it seems relaxing sometimes it seems like action.

  • would soda blasting injectors work better for the cylenders? the steel shot scares me,lol......

  • If the shot can be tumbled out, there is no problem. Soda blasters are expensive to run - electricity to operate the compressor and the cost of the one-time-use soda.

  • thanks for the reply, i didnt know about the one time use,ive seen ppl blast cars with the windshield still in the car with soda...

  • Later Sunnen shot blasting cabinets combined the tumbler feature.

  • Actually, that was a space-saver system and was sold at the same time the other models were offered.

  • how much would this cost?

  • Why not use an ultrasonic cleaner? No Shot blast or heat or shaker tumbler. Which means one machine less electric used+quicker+no chance of damage of shot! cos its ultrasonic cleaning it cleans all internal+external bits you'd never be able to reach oil galeries water jacket's liners. I use one at work now to clean heat exchangers. Saved us a fortune not having to fit new parts+time taken. its Amazing!

  • superbionuclear cleaner I find to be alot easier to use, but has some side effects....

  • I've never heard of that before! Im gonna go look it up now : D

  • LOL

  • I love the way the machines are setup in a line and a winch lifts the engin from place to place. we have to lift by hand from place to place. wish my boss whould copy yor setup

  • Absolutely astounding. I love seeing parts go from dirty, to beautiful. im amazed at how well of a job those machines do in cleaning the block. what are normal prices for doing a block like that?

  • awesome job John,u have a gold hands :o) . I spend this tonight watching yours vids, very interesting . More these videos. Thanks

  • Very interesting video. Would like to see lots more.

  • my engine block is at that shop rite now

  • Thats amazing!!!!

  • 500 degree block temperature, sounds very fatal, Why cant you just acid clean it.

  • steel starts melting at 1300C and iron at 1400C so should be ok :-)

  • I wish I had those machines.

  • Unfortunately Sunnen has stupidly quit making about 90% of the equipment that I have in my shop, but the TCS is a really great piece of equipment for cleaning and other applications. See my vid on cylinder head straightening. John...

  • Sir how much would the cost be for a straight 6 250ci block??

  • this explains why I can't find more information about that machine...

  • Nice !

  • Hi there, NICE video. How much does that cost? Is it expensive?

  • Most blocks run about $85, including main caps. Blocks are sprayed with 12-34 when they come out of the tumbler to prevent rusting.

  • Hello
