You make excellent points about handheld gaming, generally. I love the DS and PSP, but my favourite games on them (the GTAs, Resident Evil DS, Silent Hill) are utterly unsuited to playing when you're on public transport or swaying from side to side in a brightly lit car. The fact is, only the most simplistic arcade style games are suitable for playing on the go, or brain training titles. If I want to play anything deeper , I'd prefer to do so in the comfort of my home on a big telly.
@guv859 Yup. Makes me wonder how the new Vita will fare. On a technical level it's impressive, but I suspect it will still be something of a white elephant.
The other problem I have these days is my eyesight... so even while handhelds may be very impressive, I struggle to focus on them. My glasses are for distance, so I can't focus on anything up close, and if I take them off, I have to hold them thing right on front of my face.
@zerotheloner Y'know, the only time I've even seen a PSP Go in the real world was in the hands of Jason Bradbury when he was reviewing it for The Gadget Show.
@SteveBenway Yes they sell them here on ever major retail stores and if you like the old school games, I literally found a cool one a few hours ago, it's called CLADUN: This is an RPG!
@lettersfromtheleft You're right, Metal Slug has been a big influence. The Metal Slug series includes some truly fantastic games - in every way, both artistically and in terms of gameplay.
There are indie type games on PSN that are basically full sized if somewhat basic games for the PS3, made by independent developers. Minis are similar, but smaller, and they run on both the PS3 and PSP.
@SteveBenway Ah you're thinking Choplifter. Chopper Command is just a straight shmup with no rescuing, although you are supposed to protect the truck convoy but its not necessary. :)

You should review Crammond's F1 Grand Prix. I worked on the art for it back in 1991 and 1992.
geffel 1 year ago
@geffel I did several months ago. It's in my Amiga playlist.
Your art work is very impressive :)
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@geffel I'm a huge F1 GP fan, I spent endless hours playing it on my Amiga (and then PC later on).

@nukinetix
So did I! In fact working on it was what got me interested in F1.

I like the look of the visuals and the audio seems good. Definitely a simple game, but it's one I will be checking out. Thanks, Steve.

Also reminds me of Heavy weapon (xbox live arcade).
Nice looking game.

Thats a cool game for sure!!!
I have been playing Choplifter 3 on the GG lately too and Blue Lightning on the Lynx, these military shooters are great!
russell56443 1 year ago
Not a bad looking game. Has a very similar style to Heavy Weapon, except you control a tank and move on 1 dimension (i.e. the ground) in that game.
Definitely would be worth a pop...I don't have a PSP, though.
Good SWILL! :D

@SteveBenway alas, my good man, I am not in possession of the fabled PS3 either. :(

looks like a pretty good game. Not bad for 1.99 or so.

Kind of reminds me of Chopper Command on the 2600. Very cool retro style game. :)

@atarileaf There is an element of that, though with none of the rescuing people :)

@atarileaf Aha! You're right. I was thinking of Choplifter. Doh!
Yes.... very much like Chopper Command, now I remember what that game looks like.
Yeash. I even did a video of it. You'd think I'd remember... lol.

I'm liking this game. Very retro-like gameplay indeed. I may actually end up getting this as it is very cheap and a nice blast.
