Number two was stupid close - and at that speed...
Just a thought experiment: Try placing the driver on a bicycle and have a car duplicate the overtake they did. Anyway, I hope they get to see the video - that overtake was irresponsible.
I'm sure the driver would feel they left plenty of room (in that they didn't actually hit me). Your idea has merit though, I wonder if they'd feel the same if it were the other way around?
Do you know, now you come to mention it, the resemblance this road layout has to Paddock Hill Corner is.... There is a turn and it goes downhill (slightly).
Hmm, yes, they don't mind a bit of contact in the BTCC do they? I'm afraid I do though. There is a big difference between a closed circuit race track and an open public road!
Riding pretty much in the centre of the lane I thought I'd positioned myself well enough to deter both these overtakes. After all, that's where I ride every day and it usually does the trick! Those who use this road often will know that it opens up immediately after and with the hatchings there is plenty of space to make a safe overtake as we come off the RAB. Neither of these passes impressed much but the second was definitely a little more alarming than the first!
@kmcyc Yes, you were almost in the centre of the lane... it seems some people need you to be absolutely in the middle... there is probably no solution from the cyclist's behavior, this is simply down to the driver being thoughtless, selfish, and well plain stupid.
Sadly you have to be prepared for these types from time to time when riding on the roads these days. I honestly don't think I could realistically have done much more here but at least I had made space to my left for an escape while at the same time making myself as visible as possible to following motorists, regardless of how thoughtless and stupid they may be. It was rather satisfying to pass them back so soon after and to never see them again though.
I'm not going to get into damaging someone's car just because they tried to damage me with it. Especially when I already know I'm going to be reporting the driver and submitting video evidence. Having positioned myself in the centre of the lane I thought I'd done enough already. After all, I ride here every day and am fully aware of the stunts drivers pull there. At least I still had space to my left though.
Ah, no. Having got themselves firmly into the queue, the driver settled down to read some texts on their hand-held phone. Far more interesting don't you think?
TBH I thought the silly driving was all done and dusted when the first one came through. This one however was a surprise and also going too fast. Too fast to hit in time or safely I would guess. Besides, why would I want to do a think like that when I already know I'll be reporting them?
i initially thought the first car was the reason this video was posted, only to see the second one

that 2nd driver thought he was on a track, taking an almost "racing line" straight through you and everyone else.. wtf!

Ah, the second driver was a she. But other than that your comment was totally accurate.

Holy cow! Take the lane? I would -- then you just have to deal with beeping rather than this kind of incident (or almost incident). Too scary.

That second one - I've never done it, but that would have had me kicking the shit out of his door panels as I caught him at the lights.
I suggest you take the entire lane the next time you're there.

@kmcyc I'm not into violence against peoples cars either (I'd be lying if it didn't cross my mind though).
The justification: "The way you oertake, it looks like you're trying to get dents in your car.... I'm just helping out with that!!"
Fortunately I'm a pretty calm guy so their car is likely to remain intact!
