I bought ableton after using logic for 2 years. To me ableton is sooo counter intuitive and the warp function just doesnt work for me for some reason... i have to pretty much correct every kick drum hit to get my track in sync otherwise it sounds like a drunk dj behind the decks at my local pub... probbly doing something wrong though ;/ ?
How would you warp a song that has no beats in the intro (first song in the mix) and has a build up? Where do you place the first warper if you still want to be able to listen to the 'build up'?
I'm trying to warp Clams Casino - I'm God but having trouble due to the low volume intro.
@carlosgrijalva90 IDK if you are familiar with the beat/bar/phrase thing. But in (almost) all electronic music there are 4 beats to a bar and 8 bars to a phrase. Typically you will see the drop in Live and you can grab the beat and drag it to the 8th bar (or the 16th if it is a super long annoying house track.) Use your ears with the metronome though, sometimes there will be some sort of boom or some sort of noise that happens within 1 bar of the bass drop. You need the down beat.
just a little helpful advice... when you buy a track of beatport (which most ppl do) you can see the BPM (global) and the Tone as well. Saves one a lot of time.
Some untrained ears have a tendency to react to a perfect fifth in the same it does to a unison (same note) or an octave. Both the unison/octave and the perfect fifth harmonises really well so watch out for that.
amazing tutorial very very well done. just i have this problem that when i warp songs that especially in heavy synth sort of house/ progressive songs that the quality gets distorted/ the sound gets distorted by the warping... and its really frustrating because ableton never seems to be able to warp it well when i set a collective BPM of say 128 (the tracks i use are deviate ± 2 bpm's from that) and when i warp it myself the sound fucks up :/ anyone know a good way around this?
@tommitd3 I almost never warp my tracks because ableton usually does it perfectly, but it depends on the song and genre. Also, ableton should save the warping you do to a song so you never have to do it twice for one song
@phillywigs you can save the warping you do for each track... to the left of the warp button there are three buttons, edit, save and rev. Just press the save button and it will save the ableton warping data and loop for that track
NO SHIT A & E "WORK THE BEST" IN THAT SONG! YOU'RE IN C FREAKIN' MAJOR!

Thank you for this! I do have one question. After warping a track does it stay that way everytime you import it? Or do you have to warp it each time?

@Sidak47 Change the warp setting to "Complex" or "ComplexPro" instead of "Beats"
