@drumkendrum Yep, the first batch of Sellier/Bellot ammo in this vid is from Cabellas...or if not, that's what they sell, it's okay ammo, but not as powerful as that flame-throwing Prvi Partisan stuff you see the still shots from LOL
First flame showed up great. I have had to color code a few front sights to keep them away from the grinder and it worked for the most part. Its still annoying to have the target obscured even partially.
My barber is trying to sell me a PPS-43C, uses the same ammo...and is "technically" a pistol. Not sure I want to spend that kinda money on something I can't find a practical purpose for....other than having fun with. Cool vid though, fireballs are always welcome in my book.
It looks the front sight is not replaceable. The rear sight is. Reading the gun boards; there was mention of replacements for the rear in different heights. The problem is they r hard to come by. They said best bet would be to contact some of the large importrs or dealers; they might have what u need. As far filing the front "A little goes a long way" so be careful. I would try to get a hold of a rear replacement first. I hope this helps.
@79thOVI Yeah, I've looked around with no luck...I have yet to find a site that has different sight adjustments...I guess I could epoxy a pieces of styrine plastic (painted black) on the back of the rear site to give it height, I should probably try that before grinding down the front sight.
BTW, tnx for the props on the stills, that was really fun to pull out of the video and use in the intro...just to show how powerful that PPU ammo is!
I have heard people complain about the accuracy of the Romanian and Yugo Torkarevs but yours seems to do quite well.
BTW; The intro for the video was excellent with the combination of the muzzle blast in slow motion and AC/DC as the background music. Excellent video. It changed by perception of the Torkarev.
@79thOVI Well...if you see later on, you'll notice that I mention that at about 12-15 yards, the gun is shooting about 3-5 inches lower than my point of aim...so it IS a bit off, but apparently, that was intentional...some folks say that they were made that way because of the tendency for Romanian troops to aim too high when drawing the gun in a panic...but I doubt that. I either need to just aim higher or grind down the front sight a little, haven't decided yet. But groupings are good!
You guys ever buy any Tokarev ammo from cabelas?

I've got several boxes of the Privi and a couple cases of Romanian surplus which is the best by far to shoot in the Cugir.
Latch on to some if you can find it but remember it is corrosive.
Were you shooting S&B Tokarev or .30 Mauser?
The .30 Mauser isn't quite as blasty in my experience but harder to find and more expensive too.
onmilo 6 months ago
@onmilo It's S&B Tokarev, not .30 Mauser...I didn't know you could use the exact same ammo in a Tokarev, but I get it's very close, right?
20thcenturyfilmdocs 6 months ago
@20thcenturyfilmdocs Yep. I wouldn't use Tokarev in a Broomhandle Mauser but Mauser rounds in a Tokarev is A-OK if they chamber.
Don't ever use Czech Military 7.62X25 in a Mauser or Tokarev, the stuff was designed for the roller locked CZ-52 pistols.HTH
