  • can you show the original shots, next to the ones you showed us, to understand more about your editing process? Thanks in advance.

  • I like your vids,cool ! Thx

  • I did not like the music on this video! great pictures

  • hey gavin, i bought a macro extension tube kit $35 to shoot macro. its a pretty good set. i love it, it allows me to shoot macro with all my lenses. do you think extension tubes are as good as a dedicated macro lens.

  • Those ferns are HUGE!!!

  • some great shots there gav of a field,lol.. liked the patterned grass a lot very cool and the hook at the end, awesome stuff love it

  • you are my hero

  • Thank you so much for Your video's you help me so much

  • omg you are really amazing, your videos totally show that it doesn´t depend on the camera but on the photograph, you are so creative and inspirational, i love watching your videos!! and of course i subbed.

  • wow! I like the way you show your creativity, your not boring to watch. I like your answer to ArtiswoOoOo that camera is not what really matter most, but the one who use the camera. I'm using Sony alpha dslr and I like it, unfortunately I rarely see those camera use by professional photographer. Do you own any Sony alpha Gavin?

  • Beautiful macro shots. You have a good eye.

  • wow, seems like your photos have a hundred percent success rate.. for me, my success rate is around 10-20%... i take around a hundred shots, and out of that, 10 look great.. the rest? not so..

  • @MrChangCJ

Dude..I know how you feel...keep watching guys like this, studying, and shooting...10-20% was my ratio a little while ago....honest...now it's around 30-40% depending on the shoot/location...and growing everyday!

I'm not there yet, but...you get to a point where you can see the shot that you're going to take and how it will look, before you even hold the glass to your face. That's what it's like for Gavin and the other pros, i'm sure!

Keep workin on it dude...just takes practtice.

  • you are amazing!

  • Great shots ... and I like your thoughts that you can find great shots in many things. Will try to do the same myself. Go out and find great shots within 15 minutes. Thanks for the idea.

  • WOW, this photos are amazing =)

have you manipulated any of the shots in the video?

  • nice work Gavin!

  • @minorshrimp: That's what tripods are for!!!

  • dang your good!

  • very nice photos

  • Gavin, I've learned so much from your videos. You introduced a different perspective of photography to me and I realized be creative is the key. Question: do you post-process all your pictures in Photoshop? I mean....all your pictures are so beautiful and unique, but do you still modify them a little in PS? Thanks!

  • Informative as always, Nice ! I have £500 to spend on a Dslr, can you recommend a camera. I am still a beginner but want to advance, Thanks.

  • Didn't think i would learn anything from this but i have i think ill go to where i shoot my sunsets and try look for shots other than sunsets :)

  • Hi Gavin

I enjoy and learn alot from your movies.

Could you please show the RAW picture and perhaps the EXIF data and then what comes out of photoshop in your movies?

Thanx alot for sharing your knowledge

  • hi great job ;-)

could you tell me did you process the pic after you take them ?

  • I was just in England the other week, and trying to take pictures there is so hard because of the minimal light. so i have to give you credit for being able to do suck a great job. I never went over 400iso, do you think that is too low? I wanted the pictures to be as crisp as possible, but it was hard to deal with a shutter speed of 1/25 haha

  • Great great vid

  • Again, a very inspiring video which proves you litrally can take a picture of "nothing" in that empty field...suberb gavin, many thanks for your inspiration and knowledge, i learn something everytime

  • Do you retouch your pictures in photoshop?

  • Can you tell me about the settings, please.

    And thanks for the video!

  • Wonderful work. Don't forget about all the possible abstract photos you had, too. That, "looks wonderful, but what is it?" was also in that empty field. Thank you for posting and sharing!

  • hi i like your strap is it mounted on the tripod screw , could i knw where can i get it .... thanks kool shots btw :D

  • Gavin, it is possible to add links to out of camera and post Photoshop images? It would be great to know the effects that you added to your shots. I really enjoy seeing your works.

  • another great vid....Thanx

  • Hello,

can you shew some bevor/after pictures in your next Photo Challenge?

    Much regards from Germany,

    HenMoh

  • Great Gavin :) As usual :)

  • All the way from 1:20 to 1:30 looks like me when I'm picking magic mushrooms lol

  • good stuff. nice take on an otherwise (seemingly boring area)

there's always something to shoot! :-)

  • Love this video !

u remind me of myself I mean the way u took pictures :)

I get sooo close to the wanted objects ,It's so different when u being so close rather than using the camera zoom

it make me looks wierd I don't want any one see me while taking pictures lol

but the results is always amazing ,makes u see the world from different view

and find out that there is beauty everywhere

my camera is canon D400 :( I really really wanted nikon but now we became almost good friends ^_^

  • i learn many things in this video... thanks Gavin

  • ive been waiting for another photochallenge from you.I missed this.it always make me grab my camera and go out for a shoot...im still saving for better lenses now.

  • Gorgeous pictures!!! I loved the one of the leaves with water drops in particular!!!

  • Can you teach us how you generally edit your photos to make them look more professional

  • hi. your videos are very informative! congratulations!

by the way, what kind of strap do you use to hold your camera in such way that it makes so useful to take pictures and at the same time, just hold the camera down? (sorry my bad english)

  • @luisfbmelo91 I'm using the RS-7 strap from Black Rapid in this video

  • @PhotoGavin

I normally like your tuition videos but your last segment of this video showed a fence some string and farm machinery and you chose a buttercup, surely these buttercups could be found in many places why did you not use the barn ot its contents.

  • Great video

  • No way that I take the same quality shoots with my Sony a200 lens :/

  • People look at me weird when i run around in the morning dew taking pictures of their garden plants and taking pictures of the smallest and strangest things.

  • Great photo tips as usual. what post production work was done on the photos and could you incorporate the 15 minute photo challange into Technique of the month in Digital Photo magazine, ie showing post work.

  • Was that a NEXT jacket? lol

  • always great pictures and tips :]..

    keep this up

  • Just got the Nikon d7000.. can't wait to use your tips! I don't really play with aperture and I really think this camera will help me better than the d3000 I use to have.

  • So simple and yet so effective - like it!

  • Great Video as always. I have this lens and its a superb lens.

  • Thanks for posting yet another Great video tut.... always inspiring

  • You are amazing! I enjoy your videos so much...you can make anything look excellent. Thanks for sharing

  • Can i take this sorta shots with my Fujifilm S1500 because to me my camera is rubish compaired to yours. I just cant get the money for one at the moment :(

  • Gavin, you so inspire me. I am yet to buy my first SLR end of this October. Due to budget constraint i will be going for the entry level... i'll give myself sometime to be as good as you and i'll cross the bridge when i get there. Thanks a lot for the videos!

  • what lens where you using? I have a canon 2.8 50mm, would that get similar results? thanks!

  • @hiizm3 It's a 60mm Macro. Unless the 50mm you have is a true macro you'd struggle to get the close up stuff. Other then that it's fine.

  • From Costa Rica

How good is the FZ100 By Lumix?

  • lol im the 777th viewer, i feel special

  • very creative gavin :)

what was the macro?? 50mm sigma? or the efs 60mm canon?

i have got the 100mm canon and the 50mm sigma, i also have the 40d but recently got the 550d which i also love..

  • @england2345able It's the Canon 60mm EF-S

  • 777 plays. cool!

great photos as always. keep it up!

  • Gavin, this was by far the best 15 min challenge, I wouldn't have thought the pictures would turn out this amazing when I saw the location.

    Excellent.

  • maybe you should show us what do you do with photoshop on these pictures

  • You truly are a brilliant photographer, I know nothing about photography but as a music artist I can still see your passion and ability to see the art in things others would disregard as regular! Thanks for your videos!

  • i wish i had a cam like urs :((( how much did it cost?

  • @ArtistWoOoOo Honestly it's not about the camera, it's you that makes the difference. That's the point of the video. Have look at the world around you and you'll find photos.

  • @PhotoGavin yes ur right, its about a week that ive started practising everyday on camera(im a photoshopper and its good for me to know about photography) and im seeing me getting better :))

  • @PhotoGavin I appreciate the sentiment, but in fact with digital SLRs you are to dependent on the IQ of the sensor: you do get better pictures and higher usable ISOs with say the Nikon D700 and Canon 5D. That aperture/shutter/ISO juggling act you were having is easier if your pictures still look good at ISO 6400 and above. With lesser cameras good macro shots often require a flexible tripod or artificial lighting.

  • @PhotoGavin It's not about the camera... it's about the lens ;)

On a more serious point, i often tell people this... it's not about the tool, its how you use it.

Not point having a $5000 DSLR and not knowing how to use it.

BTW i enjoy watching your video's Gavin, keep up the good work.

  • @PhotoGavin I always smile when people ask about camera by that way :-) I just need to copy-paste one good point I readed:

"To underscore that point, Wyrczynski shares a famous Jascha Heifetz story regarding performance and instruments: Heifetz once had a patron venture backstage after a performance and tell him, “Mr. Heifetz, your violin sounds magnificent!” In response, Heiftz picked up his violin, put his ear next to the f-hole, and said, “That’s funny, I don’t hear anything!”"

  • @TheFri13 thats a good example.. Or he could´ve given the violin to him and said "Really? Let me hear that too!"

It´s like asking what brushes Picasso used.. We must buy the same so we can paint like him....

  • @ArtistWoOoOo you can google the 40d online. he mentioned the camera and the lens in the beginning of the video... But, like he mentioned, its you that makes the photo.

If you have any digital camera, you will be fine. I use my iPhone all the time. Check out Chase Jarvis videos! You can make a lot of money!

  • @ArtistWoOoOo good photos are not just because the camera... What brushes did Picasso use? I must buy the same so I can paint like him....

  • @TheConnyB yes,but if you had a camera like mine, you wouldn't say the same... i can take nice photos, but 100 times worse in quality

  • It would be great if there would be some data of apperture, shutter and ISO for every photo taken.

  • @dgajsek totally agree!!1!

  • @dgajsek there is, it's called EXIF data and you can look at it on your computer

  • GREATE VID

BUT CAN YOU DO SOME TIPS ABOUT HOW TO GET GREAT PICS FOR DESERT

LIKE THE CHALLENGE YOU DID IN EMPTY FIELD

SORRY FOR BAD LANG , BUT I WOULD TO LEARN HOW TO TAKE GREAT PICS FOR DESERT

    REGARDS

  • Nice wellies!

  • is it simple enough to say that I'm addicted to your channel to express how much I love you and your videos?

  • @lSpadel Black Rapid RS-7

  • Oh Gavin, what did you do now? Now you have persuaded me in buying a macro lense. Now i have to think of an excuse to sell this to my spouse What a wonderfull photographs you've seem to manage in a rather boring looking field. I have to say that you are the best tutor i've had since years. Whenever i have a photography-dip, as i like to call it, I just look up one of your vids and im fully motivated.

Dont stop doing this wonderfull work. Greetings from holland, your #1 fan.

  • are the pictures fresh from the camera of did they pass through photoshop?

  • i would say photoshop, but pictures are really amazing

  • @DrJabbaWockeeZ Nothing wrong with Photoshop & photography. that said all but one of these got a very light touch... this time.

  • @JorgeDX3 Every photo I take goes through Photoshop to some degree.

  • @PhotoGavin That is good to know. I always felt like Photoshop was kind of cheating, and it is used to make up for lack of skill.

But it truly does make things look better, I think I will use it more

  • Great work, I live in the countryside and I'm going to try this tomorrow!

  • You should toss all the pics in a zipped folder and then put a link to it in the description so we can download the images. :)

  • I love macro photography because you could just shoot anything and make it look good.

  • With what is this filmed?

  • Are the photos shown edited?
