I loved this game, but I was too young to play it properly. I used to fly over the runway after mission complete and eject over the runway because i couldn't land lol
Are you sure? According to some data that I have recovered surfing the web, the true problem for a rounded shape for stelath figters was because computer and supercomputers of late 70s/early 80s were powerful enough to elaborate an extreme precise model for stealth and they used instead data taken from discarded soviet project with harsh angles...pretty ironic that URSS ' s scrapped project helped to create one of the most deadly and advanced weapon into USA 's arsenal
The amount of time I spent reading the manuals to this and Gunship in class would probably explain my GPA dip. There was nothing cooler than these games in the mid and late 80's. Period. Tom Clancy books, movies like Top Gun, TV shows like Airwolf. I miss that period greatly.
The cover art shows an X-Files-like encounter between startled ZSU-23 Shilka AAA operators and the early conceptions of the Stealth Fighter, designated F-19.
I got so good at playing this game I'd pick the hardest level and hardest mission on my first flight, use all my weapons to destroy any targets I found then land the thing practically on a sixpence... and get the CMOH! I doubt I could do that now, though.. I can't even remember what keys to press.. LOL
Doesn't matter what they say, the intro music was badass, even today, just feed it through your 5.1 surround system... VintagemanV, I hope you make another cut of this video with the entire intro music...
What you have to love about Microprose games is how they gave you the whole thing. the pub after the flight, the medals, the briefings, it was all good back in the 80's on C-64 and in the 90's on PC as long as Microprose was around!!!!
@NewsMan580 Same here :-) And I still have the savegame -floppy, too. Would be nice to have a modern 'eye candy' -version of this, but it seems that all of the simulators today have ten times the functions (=buttons and things to concentrate on) than this had and that's way too much for my taste. I'd like to 'just play' with a hint of realism, not try to be a real fighter pilot.
Can't remember the Twin Tornado manual, but the plane was real fun to fly. But other from fighting one enemy fighter there wasn't much to do. Project Stealth had a lot more to offer and avoiding the enemy was so cool to do!
I first played this game when I was 12 years old, some 20 years ago, wow... MPS did such successful titles. The intro music has a title, I have heard it in the 1977 movie "The Car"...
Yea Vintageman, the intro part was my fave as a kid, loved that plane flying under the moon with that music, I hope you could make another video with intro music a little longer. I think the same tune plays at the beginning or end of the movie "The Car" It is about a possessed car killing people.
By the way, with a simple C64 and TV screen, I didn't realize how wonderful that music could sound using a modern 5.1 speaker system. Those bass notes are solid. That intro music still kicks ass, 22 years later...
I wish modern flightsims would do more to draw you into the sim world as Project Stealth Fighter and other Microprose sims did. But I guess theese days I should be happy just to be able to buy a new sim once in a while. God I miss Microprose :-/
The PC version was a little bit different. It had music on the title screen if I remember right, the rest of the time you listened to the engines. Other than that the rest is pretty similar to this version.
MicroProse made the best simulation games back in the day. I loved this game, Pirates, Red Storm Rising, Airborne Ranger, and Silent Service.

@haleyastronomer
And MicroProse went head high as his last simulator is still alive (Falcon)

@haleyastronomer This takes me back. I also owned all of them, even acro jet and solo flight... the beautiful days of C64

That was the false F-19A, the real one has back wings, and is'nt as rounded, it still exists, but is way too advanced to make public yet

@HardWarUK
You're right, the proof is that their last simulation Falcon 4.0(1998) is still there and constantly improved by the fans.
This is the best in terms of the avionics of the F-16 :0)

I have this on my C64 and it's great - Microrprose ruled in the mid 80's to mid 90's!!!!

I still have this game in its box along with instruction book and keyboard overlay. I'd still play this game for hours if I had a working C64.

Hi,NewsMan580,
You can find a Commodore 64 for a very low price on Ebay. ;0)
vintagemanV 2 years ago
@NewsMan580 Have all you have AND a working C64 - should be able to get a C64 for not much more than a new game if you're desperate! :)

This is slow because we know the today's technology ;0)
But at the time when there were only the C 64 and A 500, I have often preferred the original games that adaptation.

Early in the history of the Amiga, I think the designers wanted to show the graphics and sound capabilities to counter the Atari.
So we had a fine game but not brilliant ...
vintagemanV 2 years ago
I bought this game, should still have it somewhere. Played it for hours! Best flight sim on the C64, Twin Tornado a close second!
wettingfeld 2 years ago
Yes and the manual of Twin Tornado was big too for one C64 game :)

You're right my friend and I find that the gameplay and atmosphere of C64 is better than the Amiga version.

Yes, you are right. The same thing could be said about Elite.

OK, I understand. :o)
Graphically, the AMIGA was the best but I think the gameplay was better on C = 64.

Me,I was 16 and 20 years later I still as much fun if not more to play it on my old C = 64 down from the attic :))
I will try to find the movie "the car", I'm curious ^ ^

Yes,MicroProse was a major publishing house and has left its mark for the generation of 80's :)
They left but their last simulator Falcon 4.0 still running since 10 years!
Proof of calit and know how :)

The Amiga and PC versions are more graphically attractive but I think the Commodore 64 version is closer to the simulation stealth.
The other two are for me more arcade ...
vintagemanV 2 years ago
For me,that's one of the best sim on C=64.
The converssion on AMIGA have lost something of the original game....

Not many views but that just means this is a classic game for classic gamers who are intelligent mature gamers of the highest distinction!!!!! :)
