  • 2:16-2:23 hasn't changed one bit with today's adults.

  • Huh, I wonder if this inspired Craig McCracken's art style.

  • @baxterfilms Paramount animation division new they were folding, so they made Ralph head of production for like the last 8 months.

  • @Methrt3 I jokingly like to say they simply brought him in to mop things up! :-P

  • Did Bakshi technically kill the Paramount cartoon division since he was the last guy at the head of the board?

  • I was a kid in the seventies, and there were still lingering styles and vibes from the sixties. What a different time it was from today! Total flower power stuff!

  • This cartoon is almost kind of like another one of Ralph Bakshi's works, "Fritz the Cat," but it's more kid-friendly.

  • @sygo7g

I didn't know that. I thought the significance was the hippie type influence.

  • What happened to just "CartoonBrew"?:-)

  • Funny what Ralph did with the Paramount Mountain. First time I've ever seen it a different color.

  • Although I'm familiar with Bakshi's movies and a fan of his work, this cartoon was a new discovery for me. How Marvin get's dressed - priceless. Thanks for sharing!

  • "I'm DOOMED!!! How could you do it to ME, YOUR OWN FLESH IN BLOOD!!!!!"

    bakshi was VERY LOL!!!!

  • i was wondering why the building were white - very creative!

  • "pretty groovy, huh pop?" "fuzzy, your mother will kill me!" lmao Bakshi is amazing.

  • haha I remember this

  • Nickelodeon actually showed this!

  • they did!? when?

  • around the early 90's.

  • damn! how cud i have missed that?

  • In one morning I've discovered Dayton Allen's early TV comedy work, his work on DEPUTY DAWG and now Ralph Bakshi in a psychedelic cartoon. Ain't YouTube great?

  • Oh! Hello ladies and gentlemen and friends.

An old professor of mine used to tell a very strange proverb.

    Yes he did.

But I guess it doesnt hold true today, with all the new stuff thats out, huh?

     - Dayton Allen, 1960

  • Psychedelic.

  • Fast fact-"Marvin Digs" was the second-to-last Paramount short before "Mouse Trek" (New Year's Eve, 1967).

  • Why don't Paramount release these gems on dvd

    for goodness sake?

  • Wow-Bakshi after leaving 20th Century Fox!

  • been a fan of his work for 23 years now....just wondering who came first Marvin or Captin Caveman????

  • It's strange to see that by the end of the Paramount/Famous era in 1967, Bakshi really got the cartoons up to the times. Nice graphics in the dream sequence, too! Plus, there are flowers on the Paramount mountain!!

  • what a great cartoon i remember watching this on Weinerille, we need more cartoons like this to spread the love. Thanks for the upload ^^

  • Awesome Cartoon; love the psychedelic city look at the end.

  • A great cartoon.

  • I knew if I start looking I'd find one of bakshi's paramount shorts. Here's hoping to find Mini Squirts soon

  • Marvin reminds me somewhat of Captain Caveman.

  • Didn't Vaughn Bode come up with a character that looked similar to that fuzzy thing in the video?

  • damn hippies!

  • Hippies didnt hurt no one!

  • Ralph Bakshi can do no wrong

  • you cant be cooler becuzz im always 20 times cooler than you

no matter how cooler you make yrself

if ya do that yr an freakin geek whahahahaha

    lol XD LMAO

  • Ay My favorite cartoon and "Peace and Love"

  • lol my name is marvin

  • so is mine but im cooler

  • anybody know where i can download the song or the movie

  • Peace and Love !

  • I love Ralph Bakshi's science-fiction movie "Wizards". It's similair to the 1968

science-fiction movie "Planet of the Apes"

combined with "The Omega Man" and "Star Wars".

  • I'm not sure what to think of this. On one hand, I'm a huge fan of Ralph Bakshi. On the other hand, I really dislike the pop-art design of cartoons from this era. It's so-so, I guess.

  • this is AWESOME!!! a good cartoon PURE 240 K of AWESOMENESS!

  • Whatever happened to those candycorn eyes?

  • Interesting. I think my parents can relate to marvin!

  • The music sounds 1960's Beatle-esque!

  • I've been wanting to see this cartoon since I first read about it in Leonard Maltin's Of Mice and Men 27 years ago. Bakshi was the head of Paramount's Famous Studios when this cartoon was released. It's interesting to see how this Famous Studios cartoon is so different from the look, sound and feel of the violent cartoons they produced during the '50s and early '60s.

  • Cool Cartoon, Thanks for posting it on YouTube.

  • Thanks Metafilter.
