How do you make your wheels rotate? Do you use ball bearings? Would you please give the parts for that particular set up? Everything else is clear, but I am not sure about the
swivel wheels. Those swivel wheels would be ideal.
And I am planning to buy skateboard wheels and make them the same way that you have on the video to save money.
Hi ther, one thing I find a bit confusing is how do you synchronize all the different shots with the audio track? maybe you could do a tutorial on that?
@polcan i love your youtube movies its very helpfull. I want to build a dolly and looking for parts, but im wondering what the size (mm) of the wheels are? Can you help me out with that? I just saw 80 mm is that oke?
Is it possible to point us all to a tutorial where we can learn to assemble the wheel system in this tutorial becaus ei personally have searched fpr hours and cannot seem to find one and i would like to build my dolly using this method.Thank you in advance
Just letting you know, me and A LOT of people are really looking forward to that "dolly moves" tutorial, please stick by your word and make it. respect.
@Toemta I know I want to do it the second I get a bit of free time. There's a lot of things to talk about in a tutorial like that so it might even have to be a several part tutorial.
@Toemta be creative dude. :) this guy has already gave us a lot for free. buy DVD where everything is explained. its only 70$, and includes a BUNCH of things... :) good luck
Very informative videos, thanks for sharing Tom. Can anyone tell me how does they shoot videos where a person is walking in normal speed but everyone else in the street are moving in fast pace. What is that technique called? How can it be done?
@rajivraj00 not sure what it's called but its easy to do. film a person walking super slow. as if they were in slow motion and then in your editing program speed up the footage till that person looks like they're walking regular speed and everything around them will move fast
@polcan99 great video - that was used on a video that got 4x the amount of views. I'd rather watch THIS VIDEO than a song title "I shit my pants" any day.
Where exactly can you buy the wheels online? Pre-made, I mean. I can buy skateboard wheels, and skateboard wheels on a 90 degree aluminium frame, but not rotating. Can you post a link?
great DIY tutorial but in your example footage your pans and dolly shots not very smooth. Kind of jerky and uneven is this just camera operator or is it the dolly itself that's not riding smoothly?
@freaksarise Thnx! The wheelset is attached to a piece of metal using a bolt that's tight enough so the wheels dont wobble yet lose enough so the wheelset can rotate. Then that piece of metal is screwed into the wooden dolly platform
@polcan99 Where did you get the piece of metal. Is it something prefabricated or did you make it. I have the wheels but I cannon quite see the piece of metal they are attached to. Thanks
I have a total respect for your work, thinking and the way you are sharing your knowledge to the world. I'm one of the subscriber from Toronto and like many film and music lover, doing my thing in making music videos and shooting stuff : ) I'm responsible for everything in the video from shooting, editing and the final product.
Thank you so much for this. I've bought the wheels a week ago and I've been looking for such tutorial to create a good quality dolly, and this helps a lot.
have you completely made the switch to DSLR's? Or is there still some use for 35mm adapters. I'm aware of the benefits of a video camera, I just want your opinion if the pros out weigh the cons.
@theryaner On low budget videos I only work with DSLR's now... haven't touched a 35mm adapter for a year now simply cuz of the problems with light loss and constant checking of back focus etc. They still produce great image quality specialy when used with Sony EX1 or 3, but too much of a hussle and too big in my opinion.
great tutorial :) thank you very much , hopefully i will get the time and money to try this out, could you make a tutorial on how to make a dyi steadycam?
greetings and keep these lovely tutorials coming :)
I don't quite understand. The professional dolly is to big (41" x 28" without side boards) so you bild your dolly 48" x 30"? Could you explain?

What diameter and width do your wheels have? I've heard some broad wheels can touch the wood support pieces.
