You're playing it wrong. The objective of the game is to get points. Let the screen mostly fill up with blocks... you don't die when the blocks reach the top. You get the square of the number of blocks you destroy at once.

1 block - 1 point

5 blocks - 25 points

50 blocks with max multiplier - 10,000 points
