I love tiny homes but when you add a wife and children into the mix plus a dog or two then they are out of the question. I am planning on building a tiny house for my gf to have as a studio, which I think she'll love. I've designed one with a full kitchen, full bathroom with composting toilet, loft and a generous living area for writing, yoga, or whatever she wants to use it for. My earthbag home, which will be around 2,000 sf, is only going to cost a few thousand dollars to build.
Please let me know when plans will be sold and also your recommendations for materiel suitable for UK giving details of sizing of wood etc......... many thanks
I really like this design! but i think id be a little annoying to have to go downstairs in the middle of the night (if the sleep area were int he loft) to go to the washroom haha
Seems like narrow rear exterior door leads to enclosed utility closet (only accessible from outside). I guess ridge beam is a missing construction detail. Have to agree with previous comment that the alternating step ladder to loft is inspired. Overall, very cool project - would like to see plans.
Will you be including a materials list with the plans? This is wonderful, btw. Kudo's. Please post asap when these plans will be available! Thank you.
Hi Michael. What did you have in mind for that tiny space w/ its own exterior door? Hot water heater, furnace and electric panel? Batteries and equipment for solar power? Just curious. Good video.
@GEOdozer420 Anywhere from $3,000 to hundreds of thousands depending on location, what labor you are going to provide or hire others to do, materials, land, if you are going to put in on a trailer ect.
Not slate, but shingles or metal would be perfectly safe on this roof. I like this design, It is spacious, more so than an A-Frame, since it has the 4" walls on the second floor. Nice design!
as for the short walls leaning out, this is possible only if the walls spread out where the rafters sit on them. This can happen only if the gussets on the peak of the rafters does not hold. This is pretty improbable. The gussets are probably 3/8" or 1/2 plywood, and they should be glues and, either stapled with 2" long staples, or screwed with 2" screws. Staples are my choice, with "Liquid Nails" in the caulking tubes for glue. Now, you don't want to put slate tile on this roof, but,
I think people are asking about the simple roof framing, wondering if it is strong enough. The roof is on a 12" and 12" pitch, (the steeper, the better, for the strength) and it looks like he has about 24" of height on the plywood gussets conntecting the rafters together at the peak. The rafters are only about 8 feet long, VERY STRONG at this legnth. The only possible problem that could develop is the "leaning out" of the short walls that the rafters are sitting on. THIS ROOF IS STRONG ! ! !
@SeverEnergia I'm still learning a lot about framed housing but would a SIP panel not be to thick to clad onto a timber frame? As I understand a SIP panel would replace a framed skeleton, as it's got it's own internal skeleton and is already cladded. I live in South Africa and framed housing is still a very new idea to us, so I'm open to learn new things - it might sound like a simple thing to you but I might never have heard of it, so I'd love to learn more!
Cool, Thanks for posting
