I'm kind of surprized they wanted to skinny dip at their age. If they were even younger than this I might understand but they look like 8 or older here and I would be embarassed to skinnydip in front of others at that age. In addition the time period in the early 1970s. I also wouldnt think they would want to do that in front of their brother or sister.
They really buried the punchline of the scene by glossing over the "no butts" line. But it was The Brady Bunch, and it's entirely possible the Bradys didn't have them.
yes I remember this being on tv too but the episodes have been heavily trimmed down for syndication, on the DVD's you'll see the full episode as filmed and shown in the 1970's before the syndication edits. Many episodes are like this, think of i dream of jeannie which always had a opening scene of a five minute segment that came on before the theme credits that were either re-cut to be seen after the credits if it was a big part of what the episode was about if not you did not see it re aired!
I happened to see a few episodes when I was a kid. But I wasn't a fan so I never watched much. So I of course don't remember seeing this. But this was actually a scene? That's actually rather shocking. It kind of makes me wonder what other strange crap went unnoticed.
I remember watching this the first time when it aired in the 70s (was a huge Brady fan). Of course, I was a kid then but didn't really didn't struck me as anything abnormal then. Now watching this scene, I realize it is somewhat bizarre.
I don't believe any boy or girl that age would have ever wanted to be naked in front of their brother/sister unless they grew up in a home where it was done all the time. Most kids that age are pretty modest.
@Onneff69 exactly. The networks are so afraid of some wacky watchdog group bringing a protest against their advertisers, they even worry about 40-year-old TV shows that everybody over a certain age has already seen and thought was no big deal (i.e. nothing bad happens to Bobby or Cindy).
Skinny dipping wasn't unheard of back in the 60's and 70's, although it was rarely co-ed. When boys went down to the river or swimming hole it was common to bare all and not shameful. Sorry, but this scene is not overly shocking.
O.K. Alice said "To go up stairs and Suite-Up"...in the next scene you never saw , Bobby & Cindy did go up-stairs and did suite-up and then Alice said....'Now that's Better" have FUN but be Home by Dinner Time".....after the wen't next door...will you know the rest....The Jokes on Alice ..Ha.Ha.Ha.
What do I think ? It was the post 60's and Free Love was still in the air. this would make it on T.V. if there was more scenes like this one on the show , that talked about the News of that time.
wow, I missed that one. Wished I had scene the whole episode. Having gone skinny dipping before with friends at that age back in the late 70's, we never made any big deal about it...except for one friends mother who was a stricked Morman. She flipped when she found out her son was doing it.
This episode WAS shown on tv. I remember watching it. And she did tell them to go back upstairs and "suit up"! Brady Bunch was cutting edge, apparently. They show Bobby in his tighty whities in the "Safety Monitor" episode.
@Aliendear Hate to argue with you, but Channel 5 in NYC showed these all the time and I remember seeing this numerous times. This was never an outtake, it was in the original show.
I remember seeing that a very long time ago. Before Ted Turner and his affiliates took it out of all the existing reruns of The Brady Bunch. But you can see all the unedited episodes if you buy the DVD sets.
Well, it was the early '70s, when it was considered standard practice for swimming pools at many public schools and YMCAs to not allow clothing. And the owner is a doctor, after all, so there's nothing he hasn't seen before.
Actually, maybe by the '70's it was dying out. But for a long time, swimming trunks weren't allowed because years ago the fibers of the old style wool swim pants had a tendency to clog pool filters. So in all school swimming pools (which based their policies on the YMCA), you had to swim naked. The pools were also boys-only, so it was no big deal. When the pools started to become co-ed, the policy gradually changed and swim suits became the norm.
@logik316 Makes sense coz they were nazis about making people wear caps if you had long hair so it wouldn't clog the filters. Everything was co-ed for me tho...lots of girls in pool so this was long gone by the time I began swimming
Actually the mythical doctor may have been strnge but a genius. He knew way back then "the sun if full of vitamins." Actually it's vitamin D, and most of us don't get enough. But skinny dipping isn't the answer.$2 a month at Walmart Vit D 5000 units a day
I do remember this clip from when I was really young, then never saw it again until the dvd's came out. Funny how I never noticed it was missing all those years.
Yes, The Brady family always was on the cutting edge of TV with each episode until the series ended knee deep in their own filfth. The End of America.
@Tri4z Look again. She's not cool with it at all. In fact, there was no "letting" about it. She told them to put on their bathing suits. How could you possibly perceive something different in this?
WTF? I mean the entire problem was that skinny dipping and streaking was so popular in the 60s that it was like for about 5 years the concept was common place, but how did the network let this happen....Did this really air? And the thing about Alice looking in their robes is what all adults do when they are making sure that kids are not trying something sneaky they should not. Imagine if she had not checked. Those kids would have been with some grown man letting them swim naked!!
The network did not allow any toilets but they allowed Alice to check out Bobby's dick and Cindy's vajayjay? What about the "Sargent Emma" episode when Mike says. "Alice, its 6 o'clock in the FUCKING morning!" Awesome
yes the would be a delite seans? and what they say i wanted to see more like cindy/bobby in a nude from the back side it still would rated G in tv show in 2000-2011 but in 1960's-70's it would like rated PG13 it was showing on a tv show
Alice is right. I support nudism but the nudist family next door should have introduced themselves to the parents first.
It's played for laughs so I can't analyze the scene. Bobby and Cindy seems so comfortable with the idea that they're going to walk down the street in bathrobes and nothing else. And neither protest when Alice opens his robe. Yeah, sure.
@robertev35 what the hell is sad about nudity? Dont be a prude man, nudity is a good thing and American nudity is the best kind. This scene was very innocent and was also filmed in 1973 so why do you have to come on here and start dragging down the country about it? I suppose in your home everyone has to change their clothes behind locked doors.
@letsplaycards40 You missed my point completely. i agree with you whole heartedly. . What I said is sad that Alice the adult figure took that view point and the Children were so innocent about nudity. maybe one day, we can grow up.
@letsplaycards40 well, i agree that people get freaked about nudity. and that many people naked generally means there is nothing sexual about it. but, still you should ask the kid's parents. just to be on the safe side.
I gotta admit, that scene is kinda creepy lol...my memory won't allow me to accept that Alice saw Bobby naked or that Bobby and Cindy were gonna see each other naked. :)
It wasn't deleted; the original airing and early syndicated reruns had the scene intact. You'll find in recent rerun airings that most episodes have some editing not because of content but to shorten the episodes to be able to sell and air more commercials.
So let me see if I understand Alice's logic: It not ok for Cindy & Bobby to swim in the buff, but it's ok if they go over to their friend's pool and watch them do it...
