Believers / Non-believers all "go" to the same place when they DIE, the GRAVE, ("Sheol", "Hades"). Everyone is still there. Go to any cemetery and you'll see that all the GRAVES are still SEALED, except for ONE, the Lord's GRAVE. Christ will APPEAR to open the graves of BELIEVERS, at RESURRECTION. There is no such thing as "life after DEATH"; there is only "life after RESURRECTION". Even the Lord could not enter heaven, after he died, without a RESURRECTED body. (1Corinthians 15:12-26,51-54)
PLEASE don't waste your life! Live it to the full! Too many religious types tell you to despise this life, setting aside your plans and passions to "set aside treasures in heaven." Or else they threaten you with terrible lies about an eternal torture chamber operated by "the god of love." I mean, that's pretty stupid, right? THIS life is all you have. The "life after death" is a bronze-age myth. "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery! None but ourselves can free our minds!" - Bob Marley
The new civic complex- a big improvement over the old one. The architects did a great job in modernizing it, adding lots of glass, smooth lines and textures. They filled the available space up without darkening the block. We were surprised when it turned out so well.
I hate it (the architecture). The building looks like an airport terminal. And it completely contrasts (as opposed to compliments) the vintage atmosphere of Court Square.
The "vintage atmosphere" at Court Square? The Elm Street building is a monstrosity of tacky, mixed design of no certain period or origin. Did you want someone to match it across the way at the Civic Center? The new building is light and streamlined. Everyone I know who sees it every day was delighted with the finished result. It's lightness minimized it's negative impact. Well done is all I can say. And it completely obliterated the old monstrosity.
Well... the old monstrosity is still there - they just added on the front part of it, in place of the court yard. I guess looks are all a matter of personal perspective.
Ah- there's your problem. They did a lot more than just add on a front part. And I checked . . . there is a consensus among a group that sees it every day and since it had to be there we think they did a great redesign job on all four sides.
I dunno... must not have much to the rear part. I used to go to concerts there as a tenneager + 20-something. Looks about the same to me ;-) But in any event, I still think it's ugly. I'm just not a fan of modern architecture in general. So the MMC gets my thumbs down ;-)
