  • This is precisely why I hate living in Michigan so much. When I can finally afford it, I'm moving to Colorado, where in certain areas, there are 300 days of sun a year!

  • I'm bipolar. I totally agree with you.

  • Why am I always sad I don't understand

  • DOES ANYONE SUFFER HIGH ANXIETY WHEN ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT WHEN ITS DARK OR CLOUDY OUTSIDE.

  • I'm Brazilian, and I just can't even bother eating as I live in London. The lack of sunlight is just so hellish for me. I'm considering going back everyday, I've been here for 4 years, and nothing gives me what I want.

  • man, im pretty SAD.

  • sooo true im so depressed in winter to the point i throw up from anxiety, in summer im fine

  • 10 000 lux is not equivalent to sunny day which is ten times more of lux. It's strange why people are talking about feeling depressed in the dark. My problem is that in winter I feel almost nothing at all. My worst days come in the spring, when my emotions are starting come alive again. This year was the hardest spring in my life. Crying without reason, morning anxiety, constant depressive thoughts, social problems(quit my job), Haven't managed to get rid of anxiety and sleep problems. :(

  • From the days of puberty I have suffered from this shit. Ruined long-term relationship because of this. I'm really afraid of the next winter and spring. I don't know what else I'm going to ruin... again.

  • @apxeli Fight it, you have nothing to lose. Get a hobby if you have to, it should keep you distracted from this during winter time.. hope that's a little helpful..

  • @apxeli How are you just latley freind?

  • hes my uncle :3

  • I HATE Summer. I'm all depressed right now because spring is here and the snow is melting. I hate it when people want spring to come.

  • @craigjonesslipknot5 And the days getting longer makes me depressed too...... Nighttime makes me happy.

  • @craigjonesslipknot5 Count me in. I don't have any of these disorders, and I've come here only out of curiousity—but I absolutely hate summer. The only thing I'm happy about with it, is that school is out.

  • @xXvolhvXx Yea same here. It would be a lot worse with school, especially since my school has no air conditioning.

  • There's an increase of weak minded people these days. ADD, ADHD, Bi-polar etc. I've got them all in spades but I simply see the need to for me to take controle of my mind (with God's help) and get over. I't called learning how to live life. We're a nation whiners. If someone know they have a condition it's the first step to overcome it.

  • @faithandpractice People like you are holding the world back....

  • @logicd22 Well that's certainly general and vague. Would you care to elaborate?

  • @faithandpractice Thinking that people suffering from various metal disorders are just weak minded, is just ignorant. God cannot help these people, and you must not have these disorders if you believe gods help wil magically cure these poor people.

  • @logicd22 Oh if you only knew. Having been raised in a house full of drugs and started on cocaine at 13 by my mother I was a certifiably insane nickle and dime street punk kid at 19. Paranoid schizophrinic manic depressed basket case. I'm glad to say that God did indeed bring total healing to my mind. I will grant you this though. It was ungenerous for me to charge people with being "week minded". I know that it was not because of any streghtn of mine that I am who I am today. (cont).

  • @logicd22 Oh if you only knew. Beeing raised in a family on drugs I my mother started me on cocaine at 13 and by the time I was 19 I was a nickle and dime street punk kid, sleeping in parks and eathing out of garbage cans. I was paranoid schizaphrinic manic deressed and a host of other disorders. I'm geneuinly glad to say that God has healed my mind. I will give you this though. Not all are "week minded" as I stated. There are some with real disorders. God can heal others as he has me.

  • Every FUCKEN year I dread on winter. Let me tell U why I hate it #1 Days seem shorter & seems like not enough time in the day 2 get things done. #2 Wait gain occurs Bcuz I don't like working out in the freezing cold & if I go 2 a gym, it's not good 2 come out hot with your pores open & go out into the freezing cold. #3Need to lug around a coat all time when you go out, remove it when indoors and put it back on to go out again. #4 Electric bill is higher. #5 Takes longer to warm up your vehicle.

  • can you get sad in the summertime?

  • Comment removed

  • The word "sæd" is the Norwegian word for sperm/cum. And its prounounced just like "sad" is prounounced in english...Im laughing everytime they say sad lol

  • @LatemNam666 bahahaha

  • very very informative, Is the Doctor married? I love how he talks and the tone of his voice just makes me melt...Dr.Gance Ferrance is that his name?? What is his particular practice?

  • The best supplement for Seasonal Affective Disorder is MoodBoost Drink. It has B Vitamins, a little Vitamin D, Zinc, Chromium, Selenium, L-Tyrosine, L-Glutamine, 5-HTP, Rhodiola Rosea and Taurine. It's a great supplement and it works great for me during the winter months. The only thing I criticize about this supplement is that it doesn't have enough Vitamin D. That I supplement with 5000IU additionally per day. If you suffer from SAD you should try mood specific supplements.

  • @mitochondria09 i thumbed you up! people should take your advice.. i've been taking my b vitamis, 5-htp, l-tyrosine and it really lifts my mood.

  • I usually do fine from May until late October. In the Autumn I try to do fun things and concentrate on the festive colors, etc. But oooh boy, those gray skies (without any break in the clouds) get me every time. I think what does me the most good is being able to have a good whine about it to other people who understand. <3

  • I always get depressed in the winter. People always ask me why I'm so irritable and don't talk to anybody so I tell them I have s.a.d. and they think I'm weird. Can't sleep enough at night or anything either. Tried light therapy and sleeping aids but that doesn't work either. Fucking hate this shit, moving to california as soon as I can.

  • Winter sucks, but summer sucks just as much, if not, more. Winter makes you feel all depressed but summer has no joy etheir. And Spring, well that just makes me sad since I keep thinking about how sucky the summer is going to be. Fall just makes you feel like a loser and you anticipate the crappy winter. Where's the joy in life?

  • @Charades4Life not in the seasons apparently

  • Im from winnipeg where its -36 in winter but its always sunny and i was fine ... moved 2 years ago to Newfoundland and my life changed i never thought that I have SAD !!

  • Anyone who is depressed for any reason should watch the laughing baby videos on youtube because they will improve your bad mood. They will get you laughing and grinning very quickly. Watch spacelord72's video of his son William because it is very cute.

  • I cannot believe doctors still only talk about bright lights. Research has shown that some specific wavelengths are as effective as full spectrum lights and are safer for the eyes too. I use green light therapy, it works for me and I love it!

  • i was disagnosed with this when i was 10 and now i'm 16, the light really helps, its just about getting enough time on it.

  • ...plus the tanning beds are using the wrong light. These S.A.D. lamps are specific to the disorder. You get the same light from your homes in lower amounts, and work florescent's. These lights target at 10,000 and allow for short time usage.

  • I have seen a few comments on here about tanning beds as treatment aides. This is not an effective, nor approved method. If fact it is actually damaging and can increase symptoms. Although it gives the nice summer "glow" effect. Unfortunately, the UV lights used are damaging to the eyes (regardless of using the plastic glasses)...and the skin is also taking in those rays. It is proven that sundamage to certain body parts causes fatigue (back of knees, neck ect) which will make S.A.D. worse.

  • I have severe SAD seasonal depression in late autumn here in Europe. Starts about End of September until November (3 months quite long). I cannot sleep at night I dont wanna have sex that often, hate death nature gray sky reflecting my room. It bothers me - So I rest a lot during days and take vitamins - and I am active at night -since I cannot usually sleep.. :( :((((

  • I find it hard to sleep also, this really effects me. Mine lasts from october/ november up until around march/april some years :/

  • nothing bums me out more then the winter months. its seriously hard to get up in the morning. i hate this feeling.

  • @uncharted185 Buy a light, helps me!! and always remember the summers are not gone forever.

  • I started noticing acouiple years ago that darkness really got to me.

  • my friend thinks she has it, she's 13...how can she stop it??

  • I think a tanning salon might help, along with working out.

  • Very interesting material.

  • I've heard people with bipolar disorder say that they get manic episodes during the summer. This is when their mood swings to the opposite of depression, with restlessness, anxiety, hyperactivity, they seem like they are on cocaine and they lose their judgement and self-control. I don't know if this is a common pattern, but anyone whose mood changes in a yearly or other pattern needs to see a doctor, not just tough it out, like I did for too long.

  • @arachne646 hi what did your doctor do for you. i self diagnosed and bought a light and a pocket full of pills

  • @arachne646 i have bipolar disorder and im only 13. during summer I feel like staying at home. I hate the sun id rather be in cold weather all the time.

  • Winter depression has a known chemical cause--light stimulates the eye, and the nerve message to the brain releases a chemical called melatonin, which kind of keeps you from going into hibernation in the summer, when you should be out hunting and gathering for the long winter in your cave. It took me a few years to find medications with my psychiatrist to get my hard-to-treat depression partly controlled before we noticed I did better in summer. Light therapy has helped a lot.

  • I response to many posts, I believe it will be a Struggle to get the SAD help organisations to properly recognise the summer variant of this condition.

The overall term should be changed...after all the word seasonal can apply to any season, not just winter, but winter blues sufferers (while I acknowledge they suffer) have monopolized the Label.

SAD should be catch-all, but divided into.

    W(inter)SAD the more common &

    S(ummer)SAD the less common.

    that's what I think

  • Yeah, I feel sadder during the summer than the winter, I think summer is boring and not as exciting/happy as winter.

  • umm is it possible to have both the winter on-set depression and as well as the summer on-set depression as well? because I do not know if it is possible, I seem to not be as depressed right now but it fucks up my school life which is really fucking not funny... but in this summer time I see to be getting what seems to be similar to the summer on-set depression as well

I didnt even know I might have summer depression until I checked the symptoms...

  • if you are depressed in the winter, and depressed in the summer...

...im pretty sure it isnt the weather thats affecting you

but maybe you are just depressed in general

  • well that was actually a mistake... I meant to say that I may possibly have summer onset disorder as well

    *A loss of appetite

    *Weight loss

    *Insomnia

    *Irritability and anxiety

    *Agitation

    *Increased sex drive

but I doubt that i have it... because I do not have the anxiety part, and I do not have the agitation as much either...

but I have no doubt in my mind that I have winter-onset disorder because it occured last year, but this year was much worse compared to it.

  • well unless its directly related to the summer

    you don't have it.

i dont think you can correctly diagnose something like this just by saying you have some the the traits.

    but good luck with that.

cluck cluck-- more nasties from your wardrobe

  • well I dont have some of the symptoms from SAD last year I had some of the symptoms I think, Im not sure because my memory is not that good but I do remember having the social withdrawal, carbohydrates craving and sleeping more and more and becoming more and more tired. But this year was extremely worse than last year... I definitely had ALL of the symptoms of Winter Depression this year.

so that is why I have no doubt in my mind that I have SAD.

  • i dont know whats wrong with me, during the winter i am so shy its not even funny and then when its spring again im happy and i am not afraid to talk to anyone. im just fucked up that way lol

  • See more videos on symptoms and treatment of SAD and Winter Blues by stress and wellness expert and speaker, Beverly Beuermann-King - Titles - Winter Blues Versus SAD, Stress and SAD, How To Treat SAD and Symptoms of SAD

  • lightbox & excersise.

  • for the past 3 winters i get vary deprssed and gone into self destructive cycles of excessive drug use, the past 2 years during christmas week i have overdosed on methadone and oxycontin, as soon as the sring comes and the cold is gone, i always bring myself out of my slump and just clean myself up and find a good job, but its a yearly cycle that really fucks with my life

  • Yes - I agree with you 100%

I go through a similar cycle every winter and I live in Northern California!!

  • That's about right. I HATE Winter - it's not just the basics, but I'm terrified of it. I hate snow, cold, driving in snow, the grayness, etc.

I count the days until Summer.

  • @PJownsyoursoul Unfortunately, the thing is, SAD isn't about consciously hating the weather or counting until warmer weather is here. I mean, I have SAD and I find snow to be beautiful. It's about your body telling you to be depressed beyond the normal dislike of winter.

  • I get really depressed in the summer and really happy in the winter, is this still SAD?

  • Yeah, except it's reverse SAD or something like that. Check out the wikipedia on it.

  • you live in Australia?

  • No i dont

  • backwards sad lol

  • thats strange...are your Nordic?
