that was interesting i have 8 inch scanspeak midbass units which after 10 years or so the foam surrounds started to deteriorate which apparently happens with this material, when i got them reconed i asked the bloke doing the job why the company would use these over rubber especially considering their price and he told me it was to save money, since then ive been under the false impression that natural rubber surrounds were a better proposition not so sure now,
hexagonal shaped wire in the coil you get even more turns in the gap although thankfully watts are pretty cheap nowadays so efficiency is not as important as it used to be well unless your designing for a large venue
Some companies expirimented with oval coils for oval speakers, but it ended up with failure due to the weakness of the longer sides. I've heard about this a long tme ago so I don't remember the source, but yea square coils definatly don't exist.
Damn Tom I really didn't know you had so much depth in the physics of car audio. I could only imagine what you would be doing, if you had a ridiculous budget for your system. It says a lot when you can make awesome videos and not spend a shitload of money when others have to dump THOUSANDS into there products. They do it to get views but most aren't anywhere near as knowledgeable as you are Tom. Good Videos man. I'm glad I found you on here.
Does the voice coil in a loudspeaker have a torsional component?, I mean does it rotate a bit apart from linear motion? or does it have a 100% linear motion only ?
@TheElJosh If its a proper company they will tell this info but as we know thats not the case most of the time. if you do the competition brand stuff inciminator, dd, dc, Fi, sundown, those kind of things. they are really the same when it comes to what kind of coil they use and what not.
rubber is more of sound quality then spl. but pro audio is beast
