I agree with the others. I'm sure Clara would be happy to know that you are enjoying the books and sharing them with others. Prob even more happy that you cared enough to stalk her. I would have loved to hear you place a call to the paper on that one though. That conversation would have been priceless.
Oh dear now we are going to a whole new place. I think the only thing I have worth keeping is my Grandmothers antique doll, I supposed DS will sell it : ( I want my ashes sprinkled at Disney.
How cool that you found Clara! She was born the same year as my dad! I'm sure she would be happy to know that you have her cook books and that they will be treasured.. :)) Don't like thinking about the death stuff.. blah..
I also think Clara would be happy to know her cookbooks are in good hands now. I think my stuff would just be tossed since they are dollar store and garage/yard sale finds. I think I would have my diaries at least be kept in my will probably for my daughter more than my son. If there is a heaven I hope we have copies of the stuff we leave behind or else I would be missing my seasonal decor and knicks knacks...lol
Nobody has to worry about looking for the shoeboxes full of money when I go!! I told my daughter to take what she wants and donate the rest. She said she's more inclined to just have a bonfire lol
I have gone through the death of my father and some of his stuff has been around for years. You cannot take it with you and possibly others may not hold it as precious as you did. Still interesting to hear of Mrs Yamashita and you appreciate her cook books so all is not lost :))
Had anymore I dont know what ever happened with the money...yea getting to the age myself when you start thinking about what will happen with all my crap after I'm gone too...like said its pricelesd to you but crap to soneone else....
I have friend that her great aunt and uncle that were in there 90's pasted away with in a few weeks of each other when the house was gone through to get rid of the stuff they found shoe box after shoe box full of money and even a dresser drawer had money abd ot dated checks in it all the family could figure out was that they were from the depression era abd didn't trust banks all in all I think they found like 60,000 thousands dollars they had one child that died shortly after birth and nerver
People used to write their names in the front of books all the time. My parents did. In my early years, I used book plates. But that is over now! The value of a first edition book is greatly reduced if it is written in. Although, not all first editions are worth any more than their cover price. Yeah. I have been wanting to seriously downsize for a long time. Pat says that's what we have a basement for. I don't want to leave clutter - although I imagine it will be my stepdaughter who
@popparoc46 Pt 2 - ... who will be sorting through. Hmmmmm. perhaps I am mean and cranky enough to just leave it all the work to her. Maybe I will hide important stuff in old newspapers. It will take years.
@popparoc46 I think you should. Maybe even leave a note saying you left things hidden in the newspapers and not to toss them out so it DOES take her years--but then don't leave a fricken thing in the newspapers but on the very last stack leave a note telling her how you felt unappreciated and that having her go through these newspapers was your version of karma (LOL). I am quite mean when I want to be. I am a Scorpio.
@silverscreamgrl heh heh. Did I tell you I called her boyfriend's mobile phone after Tiffany (grandson's girlfriend) lost the baby, to ask him to have Jennifer call her son. This was 3 days after miscarriage. Aaron (grandson) had called his mother to let her know and left voice mail. She never called him back. When I talked to Tim (Jennifer's boyfriend) he didn't know. I suggested that perhaps Jen could also call her father. She called Aaron, but has not called Pat. Nothing for 5 months. Sad.
@snarkdetriomphe Yeah that is a nice way to think of it. It just saddened me that she had passed for some reason. Don't even know her but to have her stuff .. oh well. i will rethink it as it is nice that she has been immortalized by me now having them. I pray that Bain does take to cooking so maybe he will enjoy these after I pass. I guess I need to re-make my will. Scott is getting all my crap to do with as he sees fit. He is to disperse to those that want it. But he knows that :)
why so sad? you were meant to enjoy clara's books... wouldn't you be happy to know that someone who really appreciated it was enjoying your crap? nohea's ashes won't be around forever, but she will always be with you! damn girl you are being deep. given my interest in antiques, i see it as a joyous passing around of things for generations to enjoy... and these japanese ladies may have written their names in books so they could lend them to friends, etc.,
@snarkdetriomphe Yeah, I am enjoying her stuffs. And I didn't think about the lending books to friends thing. I only lend to my sister. But she doesn't return LOL>>>> which is why I wouldn't lend to a friend, for fear of it not being returned. Yep, leave it to family hahaha
Since my father-in-law died, hubby and I have had that very conversation about all our stuff. What happens to it all? What would we do with it? He had to get rid of lots of his father's stuff. My parents are selling their house and have decluttered and have gotten rid of most of their "extra" stuff.
I think Clara would be happy that you have her book(s) and that you are enjoying them.
@yoyomax12 Yeah it is something that I am definitely going to have to start thinking about sooner than later. I really am going to start once I get home from ST to get rid of most of the recipe books that have sat, unlooked at. It is sad to say that most of the stuff I make now come from those little impulse buy books. Of course we have our standards that we always do, but new stuff comes from those and not the nice cookbooks that look nice and that's it.
I only have ashes from one kitty Scooter who passed at 21 years like 5 years or so back. Before that in Nebraska they never gave them back to me. My MIL didn't even want her hubs ashes. She loved him dearly but didn't get the point of having them. The place told her legally by law in Nebraska they have to give her husbands ashes to her. Now they sit it the BIL house and no one knows what to do with them. I don't give advice since it wasn't my father and they all seem clueless.
I got an e-mail from a relative in Argentina recently saying they searched our house and they asked me if my neighbors had a pool to make sure that it was the right one ha! After I typed what I thought about my stuff ending up at a thrift store (felt like that at auctions too) I told myself that when it comes right down to it it's only things, hopefully we'll be remembered by who we were. I'd leave it in my will about my pet's ashes as you said. It is a downer to think about this sometimes :(
@timido66 Yeah, that is probably the way I want to go.. probably in the breeze as well, because I don't want a certain spot where people feel they have to go to put flowers or whatever. If I'm floating off into the wild blue yonder, they won't have a place to go to :)
