Kick-ass totally awesome song, it rocks!!! love the startup guitar plucking then the build up, instrumentals are superb, esp diggeridoo and the vibes, such creative genius that vocal duet with Kandi Stanton sample they did it justice,in fact I would say Kandi sounded even better, so raw, origin from Pasty Kline, I didn't know before, they paid some homage to her and Kandi, but it's a totally different song in the look and feel and modernized. A bit of a twist to the original. Love the bass 2.
The woman's name is Kandi Stanton, she did one R&B album in the late 60's or early 70's and the original song was about heartbreak. She the went on to do gospel only.
@3littlbirds ya! no one should ever play anyone else's music!!! we should only have one version of every song.... that does soud stupid huh... so do you
I really liked this when I first heard Janice Long plugging it about 2 years back. Then I discovered it's actually a cover but now listening to it...am I right in thinking that this is a sample of Candy Staton's lovely version?
Wow. Love all the different versions, interpretations of this song. It's always cool to get Different Perspectives, in all things, keeps life interesting, and fresh.
Harlan Howard, a superstar songwriter in Country Music, wrote He Called Me Baby in 1962. Patsy Cline was the very first to record the heartbreaking mournful ballad in 1963.. All the other artists took their turn and gave it their best shot in their own style & interpretation of the song. One Eskimo incorporated the chorus of He Called Me Baby into their own expression and vocals of this fine story telling tune and gave exposure to all of the other artists who have ever recorded this song.

1) Did Candi get cut in on the royalties? 2) If they are so willing to use her hook, why misspell her name? 3) Show me her credit line for her part. 4) Look here losers, I am entitled to my negative opinion just like you are entitled to your fawning boot-licking, so if you don't like it then YOU keep walking, morons.
People who are negative and say it's crap and that Candi Staton's version is better are all so ignorant. It has her singing the hook! So, it's a collaboration between the original artist and One Eskimo. It's her, updated. Don't be so negative. If you don't like this version, just keep walking. Peace out!
@Theralex : I don't like it. Since this is a ballad about some poor loser who wants to know why his GF ran off with some guy who called her "Bayeeee" it's probably because he was a total dick and couldn't TCB at home. Or maybe she just got sick of his whining. Maybe he should track "him" down and cut his tongue out. Then he won't be calling her "Bayeeee" anymore. It"ll sound more like, "Bluaaaah!" Maybe she'll like that even better. LOL! I think it's crap.
You cannot reason with an irrational mindset as the bitter evil poster seeks to engage others to share his self misery with others, it's best to vote him down, flag him & ignore him. Pity the fool,
no matter how many times the bitter/miserable one comes to visit here, the reality is, One Eskimo is a great band with a great sound. that will never change.
I have the CD, it is a soothing collection of songs that is good to listen to when stuck in traffic or anytime. Kandi (He Called Me Baby) is my favorite song from the CD. Top 40 radio is playing it, One Eskimo is out in concerts and venues promoting it & they have millions who support them.
This song plays in the supermarket about 200 or maybe 1,000 times a day! The sound system is terrible and all I can here is the hook, "He called me babe" about at least 100 times and it sounds so fucking stupid I want to run out of the store screaming. But now that I've heard the whole song and all the lyrics clearly, it is still irritating. But now I can ignore it.
Exactly so origins1965. Heard this in a shop some time last year and rushed home to find out what it was; bought the album and all, but this one still really melts the backbone. And they didn't pinch it and pretend it was all theirs, the Candi and Patsy versions are great, O. Eskimo have just made a gorgeous intervention.
I Agree, the first time I heard it...it was like WOW...when you hear a new song on the radio in your car, you usually expect it to be an established artist...thought it was James Blunt or Maroon 5 at first.....it melts your backbone, melts your heart of anyone who has been at the busted end of a relationship. It taps into the passion out of any of us who can relate to the well told story this song expresses so incredibly well
This is well done and a beautiful song, but these guys didn't write the melody or anything else. This song was originally done by Patsy Cline and later by Candi Stanton. It is an excellent cover, but the song is called "He Called Me Baby". People need to give credit when the ripoff is this obvious. They still did a great job with it, but it's a cover with a few word changes. virtually nothing original. A good cover though. Changing the name to One Eskimo and acting like it's their genius is sad.
I heard this song for the first time on a road trip. Once I got home I only found the origional versions of it. (Patsy Cline and Candi Staton). I knew it was Candi's voice on the track once I found her. I kept looking for He called me baby as the title and could never find it with male vocals. Finally I found it. I Absolutely love this song. Candi's voice is so haunting. TY One Eskimo 4 introducing us to a great blues singer from the past.
My story about this song. I just spend 2 days looking for it. Listen to it on radio and feel in love. I listen to the radio station hoping that it would come on, no luck. I when on itunes and listen to every single song on the charts. This is how much I love this song and found it!!! This is what real music is about. Love it!!! Don't know much about the band, but this is awesome!! His voice is awesome!! OMG!!!
OMG I COULD LISTEN TO THIS ALL NIGHT LONG AND NEVER GET TIRED OF IT...AN AWESOME AND UNIQUE VERSION OF AN OLD SONG...IT'S BEAUTIFUL AND I LOVE IT! GO ONE ESKIMO!

One Eskimo's superb version of this song. If you want to hear the original, it goes back to 1963 by Patsy Cline. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I must say One Eskimo were very sincere in this haunting mysterious vocals with the best arrangement recording of this great song.
This has become one of my all time favorite songs...I love One Eskimo, great talent, nice guys...please come back and play for us here in Salt Lake sometime soon!
Like yourself I cannot get enough of this song, glad the radio stations have added it to their playlists. I will be seeing them live friday night at the Del Mar Fair.
This song tells a story of heartbreak, the sound is mesmerizing and haunting, The lead singer Kristian Leontiou has a wide range in his emotionally charged voice that grabs you up & pulls you in. This is one of those songs you hear for the first time & the depth instantly captivates your whole being.
These young men are so inspiring. This is such depth, I haven't seen in a very long time, if ever, really. They ate so young, wise, and have such raw talent. I can't hear them without crying. Clearly indigos. Today's young people are so promising, they give me a lot of hope.
OMFG great, no, AWESOME song. I love it!!!! Someone else commented, "haunting" is exactly right. I heard this on the radio, randomly..so glad I did. AWESOME lyrics and his voice...very, very great.
If you LOVE this song, PLEASE buy the whole album. #1, you won't be sorry--all the songs are wonderful. #2, they're making almost NO money at all on Kandi after paying Harlan Howard's estate, et. al., for the rights to use the "Baby, baby" chords and chorus. Show them the love by showing them the money!
I checked out the CD on amazon, heard clips, I like the entire thing.
I will be seeing them live at the Del Mar Fair next friday July 2nd. They are receiving lots of regular radio airplay here on San Diego & L.A. radio stations. The pain is so raw in this song, like a cry for help......you never hear a song with this kind of depth on Top 40 radio these days. Very unique and innovative with a built in mesmerizing melody. This is a GREAT song!
@MaryKnitsHatsWthEars I do "LOVE" this song! Sorry to hear the band won't make a huge profit from such a great song! You are right the entire CD is "wonderful"! I checked out Amazon and they were sold out. I did find One Eskimo on line only at Target and it was the BEST purchase I have ever made. There are so many great songs, it's hard to pick a favorite. These guys are great and I wish them much success touring the USA. Mary, did you make the lead singers hat with ears? Good luck to you:)
I heard this on the radio while I was driving around-to say that it stands out from all the other stuff on the airwaves is a huge understatement. Best of all, the dj identified the song-I never would have guessed the name. Fantastic song...
LOve iT!!!

@MaryKnitsHatsWthEars
