Only in the Pacific can you have a storm weaken as dramatic as this storm did. Unfortunatley, Hurricane Ike and Gustav didn't do this in the Gulf of Mexico. We didn't get a drop of rain from Flossie or any wind to mention.
Cam, not true, the waters were warm enough for Flossie, the southwest winds sheared Flossie apart before it hit the island, that is why it weakened. When Inikki hit the garden isle in 1992, their were no southwest winds due to the fact it was El Nino summer, and 2007 was an El Nino summer but usually southwest winds are not present in these situations. Hurricanes need water to be at least 80 degrees to form but can survive even when water temperatures are slightly below this.
The southwest winds sheared the storm apart, not the mountains like some here believe. We looked at the satellite images and that def wiped storm out and tore it apart.
I think you're wrong, the Big Island was the more important factor, significantly disturbing the low level flow and destroying the core of the storm, we don't know how exactly, but don't tell me the shear killed hurricane Jimena(in the same spot.

Yes this shows the Big Island destroying Flossie nicely

To be honest, it was the sheared environment that pushed deformed the storm

well also the more north flossie traveled, the cooler the waters are giving flossie less strength.

Pele stuck her hand out and crushed Flossie. Great Video, I kind of hope for more hurricanes to watch your work.
