Nic Sheff was not diagnosed UNTIL & after his years of substance abuse ensued.Though it is true some addicts DO self medicate preexisting conditions, few, with foreknowledge, would choose to go through YEARS of NEAR FATAL addiction, homelessness, near broken family ties, if they knew what they were dealing with. After both books were shared, Nic & Dad bravely & generously SHARED diagnosis quite publicly too, or how would a stranger here even know there was one?
tagline of this book should have been "Growing up Bipolar."
Poor Nic wouldn't stay on his meds and now won't own up to having a mental illness that drove him to self-medicate with meth and all. Stigma against mental illness makes guys like him afraid and ashamed to face it. Sad.
wow, why don't you go through all this shit and wait for some dick to come along and call you sad. If he had a mental illness, that would just make it harder for him to quit. And maybe he WAS afraid. I would be too if I had a mental illness AND was addicted to drugs. Ashamed to face it? obviously not, since some random person on the internet knows about it. I'd say it's pretty social. Whatever, go be stupid somewhere else
This was an amazing and eye-opening book. The book is powerful to the point that you couldnt believe it was based on a true story, after reading it for awhile i couldnt actually believe i read a book, it was like it was all just a dream. I personally couldnt put it down. The book was descriptive to the point where you couldnt help rubbing your arm to make sure the needle wasnt going into your skin and not nics.
GREAT book trailer! Very creative and evocative. I too have loved ones that are addicted to some pretty gnarly drugs, so I really should probably read this book. Thanks for sharing the video with us! -NiNi
