Got another modification idea for your walking staff. Notch the top of the stick, and hinge pin the screw so it will pivot through the notch. In this way, you can tilt the camera on the stick, hold the stick out horizontally in front of you and film your self from a distance as you walk. Pivoting screw. A nut between the staff and the camera should lock it into multiple positions.
Neat idea with that stick. 1/4 20 is a common size not too big not too small. 5*s for your vid. I don't think it is a hack but being resourceful. That is what you have to be while going camping.
