I remember suggesting this film to some friends when it came out, so we went to see it at the theater. They all ranked on me afterwards saying it was horrible. To me it shows the pure genius of Steve Martin. Nobody has ever made a movie from vintage clips of old Film Noir like this.

I think it's great and have been shaving my tongue regularly ever since.

"Whatta guy!" I've loved this film since the first time I saw it in theaters back in 1982, when I saw it twice in a row because it was so good. I even own the soundtrack to it, which was the very last film score composed by the great Miklos Rosza. The film was also the last film costume designer Edith Head ever worked on. Thanks in part to this film, I've become an enthusiastic fan of classic film noir. The very best film Steve Martin & Carl Reiner did together.

She never looked better, not even in "The Thorn Birds". May be Martin's best work, because it had some more subdued moments, instead of just a non-stop goof fest, which becomes tiresome rather quickly.
