So is the the last ever footage of Les Humphries? He didn't look bad for 52, but it's a shame he stayed out of the limelight for many years. I wonder if he was recognisable in his mid 60s just prior to his untimely death?
everyone who doesnt like this kill yourself and stop comparing to david hassle the hoff cause he fuckin sux. les humphries wrote great songs and even theyre kinda hippy i dont give a fuck CAUSE THEYRE STILL GREAT SONGS AND STILL BETTER THAN ALOT OF THE SHIT TODAY !!!
What i should have said is David hasselhoff singing; because he said so in an interview a few years back when i interviewed him on his number one in Germany "Looking for freedom" and made him listen to the Humphries; David's style of music was very European at the time, by "opposition" to the anglo-saxon types of arrangements, and the country in Europe where he did best with the freedom song was Germany; that's why i said what i said
Ah ok :) Well, I guess I can sorta see (or should I say hear) the connection with David's songs and this one stylewise, now that you've mentioned it, despite them being from different decades.
This is a better rendition than Johnny Horton's original. Einfach spitze! It is sad that Les Humphries died alone and unnoticed. His music was feel-good entertainment pure. If you didn't hear it, you need a heart transplant!

part of the lyrics (someone asked)
Mexico...
Well we looked down the river till we seed the British come
There must have been a hundred of them beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and we heard the people sing
well we stood beside our cotton bales and never said a thing
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
