@Hasnath11 - Green tea is more delicate than black tea, having undergone less oxidation than black so using boiling water can "shock" the tea into releasing too many tannins which will make the tea taste bitter. Boiling water will cause green tea to lose a small amount of the beneficial polyphenols but the main reason to avoid boiling water is to avoid a bitter taste.
@Ramsay385 - (Cont'd)... Black tea should be brewed with boiling water but delicate green tea requires hot but not boiling water, as I show in my video. So to answer your question, green tea is a whole different thing from black tea and you would buy them separately. It's not like if you brewed black tea for less time that it would be green tea. I hope that explains it.
@Ramsay385 - Green tea is an entirely different product than black tea. Although they come from the same plant, they are processed differently. Green tea goes through less processing so it is lighter in color and contains less caffeine. Black tea is processed longer which develops more caffeine and a darker color. Both teas have health benefits but green tea seems to have more. (Cont'd below)...
@sourXpatchXkids1 - Most people, including myself, put sugar in their black tea but green tea is usually had with no sugar. Asian restaurants, including Benihana, serve green tea and never provide sugar. Not everyone likes the taste of green tea so if it takes a little sugar to get you to drink it, I'd say go ahead.
I bought some green tea from the stores and it comes from a quite well know tea producer in the UK called " tetley " and in the instruction side it says to leave in boiling water for 1 - 2 mins.
@1234minhaj - No, I would not use boiling water. The British are black tea drinkers and black tea does require boiling water but green tea does not. I wouldn't be surprised if they change those instructions in the future. If nothing else, boiling water makes green tea taste bitter which is why some people don't drink it. If you try both methods, you'll probably taste the difference.
@bishonenchan - Sometimes, especially at work, a microwave is all people have access to and to me, tea with microwaved water is better than no tea at all, and definitely better than a soda.
So what is wrong if i just warm up the water till its just before boiling point and put the bag in and just bounce the bag as i drink it and leave it in there till im done?
Thank you! I buy my green tea from a spice merchant store, which sells them loose leaf, and I want to get the maximum health benefits out of my tea, since breast cancer runs in my family. This gave me the information I needed! :-)
@jaylorgator Actually, she does it like the Japanese do it. You're not supposed to boil the water, you're supposed to put it around the temperature she did.
@12ibrar No it's a FACT...you can't just drink one tiny cup per day and think it's making a difference. To speed up the metabolism, the tea must be consumed on a consistence basis, you have to drink the tea without sugar, before and after a meal. 2 cups at 6am, 2 at 12noon, etc etc. Tea has been consumed more than water alone in for thousands of years in Asian and African countries. Japanese Green Tea is the best, and Japanese have the highest longevity of any other country.
Wow, I've been drinking green tea wrong? That might be why I never liked it. Always boiled it. Would leave me with the worst headache. I'll try it this way, thanks.
What happens if I'm brewing my tea in over boiling water? Do the benefits disappear, or just the taste becomes horrible?
