Bird was so far ahead of every player on the court mentally, he'd be diving for a ball and while he was in the air he'd be thinking who he was gonna pass it to.
Larry Bird was an evil man! I lost thousands of dollars betting against him in the 80s! That stunt he pulled against the Pistons in '87 cost me a vintage 1969 Camaro SS! It was in cherry condition, original paint job, a gorgeous rig! To this day, I still cry myself to sleep thinking about that car...
@XChronicHash Legends Like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were so good They Didn't need Crossovers. they made Assists that made defenders players Look like Jackasses
wtf is this larry bird hahah lebron is better then him kobe his is way better then him n i cant believe tht mj looked up to this guy coz his shit but i dont blame him coz back in the days people didnt play basketball that much so every 1 that had a bit of skills and could shot a little was amazing cuz if u put some one like dwyane wade back in doss days we would be the second best of all time
@aristoteb93 You don't know basketball mane if you think that the 80's/90's was worse in terms of talent the NBA had...you don't like basketball you like dunks...
@aristoteb93 What a fucking moron for 1 Wade and Kobe play in a watered down league where centers cant camp in the lane and handchecking is not allowed.Basically trying to defend a player 1 on 1 is impossible.Bird is one of the most if not the most clutch player to play the game Jordan may be better in the clutch.Wade and Kobe will never ever be in the same pantheon of the likes of Jordan,Magic,Bird.And Lebron is a fucking choke artist
@BlaZiiNxIIxGuNn3R i'm a die hard celtic fan.. but i have a respect toward the lakers. The comment should have been, Thumbs up if you know that Larry Bird is way more clutch than Lebron.
Larry Bird was the greatest player ever between the years 1979 and 1986, before injuries started slowing him down. During that period he won the MVP 3 times, won the NBA championship 3 times and was hands down the best player in the league. He had amazing hand eye coordination for his size and is arguably the best deep shooter ever. His sense of timing in all aspects of the game is the best ever. For all-around skills, the best ever. In short, he's the best player ever.
@hooperqi his sense of timing was impeccable! He wasn't much of a lockdown defender because of his lack of athleticism, but he wreaked havoc in those passing lases because of his timing. Larry is one of those guys who made you wonder how he could do the things that he could do.
@CookieWalka Yeah, it makes you wonder until you consider his many gifts: soft shooting touch from anywhere on the court, great timing in all phases of the game, quick hands, extreme will to win, tough as nails, phenomenal vision and skill as a passer, the ability to slow the game down which lead to the nickname Bill Fitch gave him: Kodack, to name a few. Then consider all this loaded into a 6'9" frame which was unprecedented before he entered the league. He made everybody better too...not bad.
I agree by the slightest of margins...because if we encompass the entire 80's a case could be made for KAJ,Magic,Dr J or even Moses Malone. But I still like Larry above anyone else in the 80's....Jordan in the 90's and Duncan in 2000's
@hooperqi i agree with everything except the best allt-time deep shooter. i give much respect for larry but the best deep shooter is hands down ray allen
@hooperqi Let's not forget he won Rookie of the Year and made 1st Team NBA every year between 79' and 86'. He also made 1st Team NBA in the two seasons following. Neither Magic nor Michael did that. Magic didn't make 1st Team until his 3rd or 4th year and Jordan not until his 3rd. In addition, bet. 79' and 86' he was runner-up to the MVP award an amazing 3 times(aside from winning it 3 times). He was also the NCAA College Player of the Year in 1979...in short, he's the best player ever!!!
@Seaverful Great points! In addition, Larry's rookie season marked the biggest turnaround for a team in NBA history when the Celtics went from last to first - that's how great his impact was on not only the Celtics, but the NBA as well. I could go on...
@hooperqi They went from 29 wins to 61 wins....He did that with the exact same roster from the prior season with the exception of Bob McAdoo.....now that's greatness!!!!!
@Seaverful It was a somewhat similar situation at Indiana St. - Larry took a middle of the pack mid - major team to a 33 - 0 record until they faced a Michigan St. team that was loaded with NBA talent in Magic, Sam Vincent, and Greg Kelser. Larry was willing to do what it took to win at any level whether it be rebounding, passing, shooting, leadership, etc... and willed his teams to greatness.
@hooperqi Larry Legend was great, but nobody tops MJ. MJ had it all. The individual accomplishments, the skills, the defense, and the titles. He dominates everybody in all the areas that count. No player has even come close. Sorry.
@zombiefood87 MJ is good, but overrated. Larry Bird sacrificed a lot in his playing days & had outstanding leadership. He was the best trash talking NBA player, too and he knew how to back them all up. Cocky, yet he knew how to back himself up.
I've come to appreciate Bird alot in recent years. He wasn't the quickest or strongest. But he was intelligent, humble, and unselfish. He was the consummate team player. That's why he has the rings.
@mtWHITE100 u must be outta yo mind "tim duncan over" "bird all could was shoot" ima need u to gtf out u noob im not even gonna reply to u those were tha must ignorant statements of have ever heard
Best player of all time. But what about his game winning buzzer beating steal and assist to DJ against the Pistons? I was expecting that to be number one. I'm shocked it wasn't even on here.
@NickEppo Okay, suffice to say you're just wrong. The majority of the sqaud, the leaders of that squad and the captain of that squad are Americans. Not 'Africans'.
Africa is a continent, by the way; you can't be citizen of 'Africa'.
They're American citizens. Americans; just like Larry Bird.
@hautelick Oh my god, just shut the fuck up. Kevin Garnet and Ray, Rajon, and more are black. Black people were originated from Africa. Therefore, Celtics is full of Africans. God dam.
@NickEppo Just because they are black it doesn't mean they are African. If they were born in America, then they are American. You don't have to be white to be American. Take example of Canada as well, Canada is a culturally diverse country (like America but more-so). Look at Rajon Rondo and you say he's American, but when you say Hakeem Olajuwon you say Congo (Africa) because he was born there. It's all about where you were born, or we could say nobody is American except the native americans.
@keverinkarama It's not surprising at all. There are SO many different cultures in America that just about anybody could have been born in America. If he talks like an american (With an american accent) then yeah, I'm not surprised. Nationality is up to the person, but when I think nationality I think birthright. I was born here, so therefor I belong to that country. Who you think you are is what you identify yourself as. I identify myself as Canadian although I'm Vietnamese.
im slightly better than larry bird..... everyone around my town thinks so. Ill be fresh on the scene in a couple years and will be the greatest player to ever have lived (most likely). nobody can stop my drive and i never miss. I have moves and passes nobody's ever seen before. iam the steel.... i am the one.
I recently had an argument with my uncle and father. They *claim* that the #1 play was a putback finger roll/scoop. I say that the motion was more similar to that of a floater. Which one was it?
I have been a Dirk fan for all my life (NOT A BANDWAGON) and Dirk may have scored more points than Bird, but at the end of the day, as much as I hate saying this, I have to give credit where credit is due. Dirk<Bird. Dirk has potential to make it Dirk=Bird, but he's gonna have to play real hard the next 2 season to make that happen.

If anyone is wondering this list was an special of great playoff moments. The Larry Bird Steal was featured in another list.

I recently had an argument with my uncle and father. They *claim* that the #1 play was a putback finger roll/scoop. I say that the motion was more similar to that of a floater. Which one was it?

@XenaphobiX finger roll. period.

@Btam25 Are you just saying that because of the playoffs?

@Btam25
