  • Is that a radio you're listening to in the background? Headphones?

I tried to listen to music on my commute once using headphones and was paranoid the whole time since I couldn't hear the traffic as well.

  • No, it was background music I added. I need to hear cars coming up from behind, so I dont use headphones.

  • People are just in too much of a hurry to get to an early grave.

  • You have some great pace there!

I must admit in that situation I would ride a little further out, as well as taking the lane through those traffic lights. That's riding in the UK though. :)

  • Great idea. I do the same here.

  • This town is full of rich people who believe they are each the center of the universe. If you dared to obstruct the progress of their Mercedes, they would simply run over you and let their lawyers sort it out. They are in a hurry to shop and my existence is secondary to their hunger for goods and services.

  • That's what most people think about taking the lane, but in fact it's the other way around. By staying too far to the right you're effectively encouraging those overly overtakes. By staying out you'll discourage most overtakes, and you get room to dodge right when you do get the occasional nutter come past.

  • True. The problem is the number of nutters out there. When someone just wants to be aggressive towards a cyclist, there is nothing the cyclist can do to escape. being in the way tends to set them off, makes them feel justified.
