JohnnySmooth added me as a friend and subbed right at the dawn of Youtube. Johnny added thousands of subscribers, and we all felt the obligation in the early days to sub back to eac h other. But as Youtube technology got smarter it may have spotted him doing something that was allowed at the start but is now breaking a terms of service rule.

Maybe-and I'm not saying all his subs were personal. But he was always a good youtuber, responding, commenting and uploading, to me! Times have changed. And rules can get way too constricting.

He didn't use a bot to make me subscribe to his channel.

He was suspended for using bot programs. And its his own fault since he was well aware that botting is strictly against youtube policy and does result in instant suspension. Botting amounts to spamming. Its also unfair on those who worked hard to get subscribers without cheating.

I agree he had good material....which makes it all the more sad he had to resort to cheating to boost his popularity.

if it was due to an alleged bot then I'm pretty sure it wasn't really LisaNova (or was it Spricket? I get them both mixed up) that left a 'personal message' on my channel quite some time ago

Aside from the annoyance of the suspension itself, not knowing why is also annoying. Whatever the problem is, I hope he comes back in his old channel or in a new incarnation. Just more evidence that YT is not community minded.

Somehow I suspect the bot issue is sensational propaganda and not reality. Hopefully, it's the usual copyright problem and the channel will be back soon. Until then, the blank icons will remain on my channel.

It seems there are a lot of people who relish the fall of someone more successful than them and can't wait to throw around accusations! But he does have a LOT of friends here on youtube who feel the same as I do regardless of whether those rumours are true or not!

I think johnnysmooth was the second subscriber on my first channel. Until then, skateboarding dogs and explosions defined my YouTube concept. He effectively used the medium without substantial special effects and certainly his art is exceptional. His consistent quality across multiple disciplines caused favorable anticipation for the next video. I've never been to Chicago, so his videos have provided an important connection with my mother's hometown while her cancer has advanced.

JohnnySmooth was really cool. He was my fifth subscriber and I remember he was always really nice to everyone on youtube. I hope to see him back on the youtubes soon.

I agree, it's a bummer to see his channel go away. I doubt they'll give it back to him, though. He announced on another site that he was banned for an old video where he included a clip from a feature film.

I give him credit for taking responsibility for that and not acting like YouTube was victimizing him somehow. It would be nicer to have him back on that channel but at least he still has the other two. I hope he reposts some of his better stuff on one of those channels.

well, it was suspended, not deleted or closed. The original tubeaddicts channel reappeared eventually. But of course 6 months is an eternity in youtube land!

also, and i cant find this anywhere, but i have been told that you have to have 3 strikes from 3 diff copyright holders to get suspended.

copyright strikes dont expire though, this is mentioned in the blog.

community violations are wiped after 6 months - channels are muted now for 2 weeks...."users who have two Community Guidelines warnings in a six-month period and will last two weeks."

Thanks - some of that is news to me. For some reason I thought the copyright strikes did expire after a year but now I can't recall who would've told me this.
