  • thats my da at 4 seconds in. still workin the same job 23 years later

  • @rhythmtechnologies Wow that is brilliant!

  • The best TV advertisement I have ever seen, pity they don't make them like this anymore.

  • Greatest ad of all time - run it again!!

  • I want this video on my 6230i phone.

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST AIRLINES OF THE WORLD AND FRIENDLIEST>RECKED BY SHISTENKOPFEN RIVALS (shit)xx

  • Great ad!

  • This video went viral on Damascus

  • This airline has been destroyed by the employees. They complain about pay cuts when they still earn 30% more than Ryanair workers. They should consider the fact that it is hard times for everyone, and they are lucky to have jobs, and take pay cuts like the rest of the country. Unions have too much control nowadays. The ''classes system'' is well and alive at EI, as when you I fly business class to US they patronizingly kiss your ass, and treat you like parasites when in economy to Europe..

  • shame the 747s are gone

  • Let your love flow, like a flower from the fresh mountain spring, let your heart open, let it, be free, like bird flying over the landscapes of the fresh new world. Everybody has a choice to be something in their beautiful life. That moment, that goddamn moment where you think to yourself i will. i goddamn will be that one flower.. whether in your life you choose to be lawyer a policeman or a prostitute taking it up the ass from a sweaty mexican, we all have our chance to be that flower.

  • thats the livery the new airbus A320 retro should have.

  • I fecking love Aer Lingus!

  • Remember watching this in Ad in the 80s as a child thinking how lucky that kid was to fly. I had to wait until I was 22 to get my fist flight as we were dirt poor when I was young!

  • After travelling with many airlines over the years, Aer Lingus still rank up there in terms of politeness and customer service. Many of the American airlines (apart from Southwest) could learn a thing or two from them. No bull from Aer Lingus - they just get the job done!

  • Aer Lingus's service has become so poor and shoddy that you can only laugh at what they promise against what they deliver. Maybe they should rebrand ; Joke Airline...........Makes you laugh....................FUNNY LINGUS

  • So dated now. All the women in it are stewardesses...not one business woman....makes me laugh now. No female pilots, engineers, ground staff, even solitary female passengers....and we probably didn't bat an eyelid in the 80s..

  • @rhubarbcat How many female pilots, engineers, ground crew ect. do you actually think there are in 2011? Eh you do know these jobs are still male dominated right and that the proportion of women is still relativly low? You could also ask why many males aren't studying science, teaching ect, as this work is female dominated... too much p.c. nonsence nowadays, nobody batted an eyelid in the 80's because the ad shows how it actually was in the 80's, yes times have changed, but not that much.

  • @colmcarrigg I love how you're trying to lecture me on gender balance......such fun! Don't I know that women weren't a visible presence in many of Ireland's companies. Never said it was perfect even now!. Barely a woman *passenger* on the advert either. Glad I was RTE's first woman Director of TV....not PC shite at all....just wanting the best people for the jobs....don't give a damn so long as it's a open and fair system for appointments.

  • @rhubarbcat No worries, a bit of balance wouldn't any harm. As for this "not PC shite at all....just wanting the best people for the jobs....don't give a damn so long as it's a open and fair system for appointments", if thats the case, then why did you say what you said in your first comment? I'm pretty sure that the men working for Aer Lingus applied for their jobs fair and square, if there wasn't any women appling for those jobs, and these guys were the best selected, then whats the problem?

  • Happy 75th Birthday Aer Lingus!

  • Up Irish Shell & Texaco.>>>>>>>>.

  • this makes me want to go back in time and fly them RIGHT THEN

  • 0.01 - 20 seconds = safety / reassurance; 0.22 = love and reunion; 0.30 = authority / father; 0.35 = comfort; 0.37 = wonder; 0.41 = timely and efficient; 0.45 = multiple destinations; all leading to... 0.53 = mother; 0.55 = God.

Not bad for a frickin' advert!

  • hate aerlingus they should sack all those cabin crew ,what about the thousands of people who lost their jobs and they crying over nothing they had it too good for too long,,,its ryanair all the way from now for me

  • Aer Lingus are a disgrace . The recent dispute with crew is totaly un-accepable. I am shocked and Very disapointed at the way Managment have treated the crew over somting so stupid. Some of those crew have been at Aer Lingus longer than any of these Autocratic Managers who are taking them off the payroll for eating a sandwich. Simply Discusting. Deciding on rosters should be a decision made by management and crew alike9who actulally have to fly them! Its the crew that make the service and the

  • airline what it is today ! The very least managment could do after the took a pay cut and uncreased their working hours is give them decent rosters!

I for one am boycotting my favourite airline i imply will not support a company who's managment and directors show no respect the the people who actually make up company . My Money will be spent on othe airlines , your welcome Aer lingus , you brought it on your self.

  • @Locker10a its the crew who need to get a grip on reality, air travel and air hostessing is a 24/7 roster in todays world. Theres plenty who will do the job if cabin crews wont. Airlines are all loss making in the 21st century, get a grip or get a new job.

  • @Tonyo1221 From reading up on both sides of the story i would agree with you but in this case Managment are way out of line! If ryanair ( who operate VERY efficently) can offer their crew a roster with some structure to and a work/life balance then Aer Lingus certainly can. All i know as a frequent aer lingus traveller i will not be supperting this airline this year at all as they have no respect for staff or customers alike!

  • @Tonyo1221 Yeah, and if you are a married mother/father with children, forget them and work whenever it suits the airline!! Silly workers demanding fair working conditions!

  • @Locker10a The employees should take pay cuts and accept any roster changes like everyone else has had to do in this country, as they are lucky to have jobs nowadays.

  • @JamesProductionsLive

Nope! The recession should not be used, or allowed to be used as an excuse to exploit staff, in any industry. yes a cut in pay is fine when a comnpanys profits are cut and staff have taken several pay cuts without issue but not letting staff have a life because they dont know when they will be working and not allowing time for them to eat ! Thats a joke ! Thankfully Managment were made see sense and the issure has been resolved now, and staff are more efficent then ever

  • @Locker10a Aer Lingus are returning to profit, and as profits increase, staff are entitled to their fair share, as EI is a labour intensive company, whre it is impossible to run the business w/o staff. But, this industrial action we see almost bi-yearly is putting a lot of people booking EI flights as they are afraid their flight may be cancelled due to strike action. EI DOES have advantages over Ryanair, but the staff should realize that when EI is not profitable, staff will suffer in terms of €

  • @JamesProductionsLive yup thats true! staff did take several pay cuts and their pay is now frozen i belive! That was never the issue! While there hasent been a strike in Aer Lingus in a long time there is as you said the threat of industrial action, but this is not be cause of ignorant staff who are not in touch with reality its because of communication(or lack of) between managment and workers, probly the biggest fall down in Aer Lingus.

  • @Locker10a You can't say there hasn't been the threat of industrial action in a long time, as it was just last February where '00s if flights were cancelled because of roster dispute. Its ridiculous. There were a group of pilots on over €300000pa until recently, not having any particular qualities compared to their colleagues, and despite working the same hours as colleagues whose salary was a 1/3 of that. EI was nothing more than a political 'old boys club' until Mueller came along.

  • @JamesProductionsLive

the flights were cannceled because of staff being suspended off for taking lunch breaks !! Crew did not choose to strike and cause disruption, managment decided it was better to punish crew by suspending them despite knowing the disruption to customers! Shows their priorities there ! Yes the pilot situation was a joke ! But i now hear that Aer lingus staffing costs are at the same level as easyjet now! Which is good news!

  • @Locker10a Yes, the flights were cancelled because the staff took breaks when they werent supposed to and thus they were suspended: thats how the world works: one doesn't work when contracted to, one is breaking a binding contract clause that was within the boundaries of law, one is liable to suspension and if repeated one can be dismissed permanently. Yes, they may be on the same level as easyjet, but their remuneration is still 30% above the lowest(Ryanair) for doing the same tasks.

  • @JamesProductionsLive

Aer Lingus crew even asked for a ryanair style roster that shows how daft the ones ei managment came up with were! it was purly managment flexing their muscles, and at the expense of customers! Aer lingus dont need ryanair costs as they dont compete using the same business model anymore, beside ryanair crew are not directly employed ! Ryanair hire an agency who supply crew, most of who dont stay long at the job and arent really dedicated to the company.

  • @Locker10a yeah cause EI workers are VERY dedicated......not anymore! I would have been dedicated to them too if I got the ridiculous salaries they got(at the expense of taxpayers) before aviation deregulation. You know, I hate Ryanair as much as the next guy but EI would be still taking advantage of the Irish public in a monopoly if Ryanair never existed. The 30% above Ryanair's salary reflects the 'hybrid' business model(above lowcost, but below full service), which is the most sustainable.

  • @Locker10a yup your right ! thats was the way things were everywhere thought! And yes it was crap and only allowd a rich people to fly! Ya thank god for ryanair and competition in general! But EI staff pay is now inline with the likes of Air Berlin, easyjet etc. its pretty average pay for the industry, yes it was high in the past but thats the past now like i said things are inline with the other european airlines of similar models! Ryanair pay is v.low but their models is slightly different!

  • If ever I saw an airline cut its own throat it's Aer Lingus. Fights cancelled for tomorrow and I'm sure more in the coming days because of some stupid dispute. Impact (their union) is going to destroy that airline. I'm booked to fly with them next Tueday and I promise if that flight is cancelled I'm done with them for good, enough is enough.

  • @celticlofts I would rather IMPACT destroy them because in their current form they are nothing but self centered cash greedy group of managers who have no respect for the crew(some of whom have served the company longer then they have )and customers alike.

  • They should change it to "Never get Home".. that's what Aer Lingus has come to. They charge you $50.00 for an extra bag and then charge you an extra $50.00 if you're taking a musical instrument with you... That airline has gone to shit. The sooner it's sold off the better. Oh as for the union running the place, I hope they're all out of work very soon.

  • @celticlofts Have you ever heard of Ryanair ? hahah good luck with your musical equip when they takeover !!!!!

  • @Locker10a: I hang my head in shame lol.. Yes it was better than I expected, they didn't charge me for the guitar and allowed me to take it aboard with me because the flight was only half full and they had lots of empty seats in the center isle so I could sleep on the night flight to Dublin. I thought the food still sucked but hell we can't have it all .. Please accept my apology :-)

  • Next day Dec 22 Thanks to Aer Lingus for running extra flight. Can see family for Christmas. Have used AL regularly since '01 and never found any faults. " The Mission" accomplished!!

  • Aer lingus "your home and your staying home" Christmas time 5 of my family 15 mins to take off to USA when cancellation due to snow, acceptable. Told by A. L next flight 9 days later NOT acceptable. That's worse than the worst by Ryan Air. Never ever travel with A.L again

  • they should show this on tv again now, except its just irish people on board emigrating again outa the country.

  • @raznol Well in 5 years when ireland is still in a desperate state i bet a relaunch will be made and shown in the UK Canada and AUS & NZ for all the people who go there because there is nothing here for them! I will probly be included! :(

  • completely forgot about this! thats my sister in the last frame getting "tucked in" by the stewardess. im pretty sure it was filmed in 89. thanks!

  • What is the music, its great?

  • @KERINS1977 - It's called Gabriel's Oboe

  • It was actually the original 747-100.. AL was a "launch customer" ...If you look at a video of the very 1st 747 to be rolled out you'll see the AL logo on it's side, along with those of the other launch customer airlines. There were only a few, and back then it was an extremely courageous and far-sighted commitment for a small airline to make.

  • @foneill9 Are you sure? I thought the launch customer for the 747 was Pan Am?

  • @Locker10a Pan.Am was indeed a launch customer, and may have been the first to put them into regular service, but Aer Lingus was a launch customer also. If you find a video of the very first 747 being rolled out, you'll see the emblems of the launch customers on the side, as was customery back them to reward airlines who commited to the jet. There you'll see the old-style shamrock logo amongst the very few others. I think they were the only "small" airline in the world to do so.

  • @foneill9 Sorry for correcting you: the first 747s sold outside the US were for TAP Portugal. If I recall correctly there were 6 of them, replaced in the early 90s by A340s. Some of these 747s flew until recently for TAAG (Angola).

  • @foneill9 Do they have any 747's no at all you never see them in dublin any more

  • @BERLINGO4255 No...sold them all in the 1990's..just airbuses now.

  • To all the engineering staff who worked for Aer Lingus and kept the fleet of aircraft safe and sound. They lost their jobs when SR Technics closed the hangers at Dublin Airport

  • is mhaith liom sein eitelann

  • I remember always messing with my friends saying you could see my dad on this ad. Simply because he's an aircraft engineer and has worked for Aer Lingus since the 70s.

  • Yeah, this ad came out in 1989. The recording of Gabriel's Oboe (by David Agnew and Frank McNamara) was released as a single at the time and reached Number 8 in the Irish charts in June that year.

  • Definitely 1989-1990. Remember seeing this Before I went to England in July 1989 and was on for a while on RTE..

  • Gabrielles oboe, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written,I for the life of me,couldn't remember why it reminded me of airplanes, and this video has made me remember.

  • Great to see AL on Stand at MAN where I live - great to arrive home in DUB on holiday to see my family in Dunshaughlin - hoping to become AL CC based at DUB or LGW (Pos Flts from MAN with other airlines) - I hate Ryanair with a passion, as AL has that special something I love

  • We should never let Ryanair take over Irelands airline industry. They are the perfect example of how certain individuals can degenerate into despotisim. Aer Lingus Forever!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone have any idea what year this ad is from?

  • @keithc1977 1989/90 i think

  • Makes me want to go abroad just so I can fly home again. Hmm advertising! Wish Aerlingus still had 747's though. Also the millions they paid to put a slant on the shamrock was ridiculous, we prefer old fatty shamrock!!

  • ryanair have to be the worse airline out there and the most ignorint cabin grew going aer lingus is the best airline ive ever been on so much more relaxing and safer

  • @karllindsay1 Crew on MAN - DUB route are wonderful - when my Mum died suddenly in Ireland, they were so lovely...hope to be one of them very soon lol xxxx

  • "you home" what an advert!, EI should do a remake of this!

  • Aer Lingus will always be unbeatable!! they should bring back the 747, just like old times! love ireland!!!

  • Ryanair now owns 30% of Aer Lingus.

  • @JoeRoss1993 Thankfully Ryainair is not calling the shots...

  • Unfortunately in the eighties and nineties many of us couldnt afford to fly with AL. We had to take the ferry...

Now,as we watch the assault on our public services its still touching to see how AL was seen as homely and comforting.

  • such a touching ad. makes me want to cry. but then a stupid cheesy ryanair ad comes on that makes me sick.

  • This brings back some really nice memories, and I love this tune, Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone (The Mission).

Thank you for posting, luttrell :o)

  • Still a great airline but this was at a time when the big EI shamrock was up there with BA and Virgin for all-round service, I truly hope the Aer Lingus glory days return some day

  • @ciaran17081982 hope the same too but its highly unlikely im afraid

  • Great advert for a great airline :) they should produce a modern version of that ad.

  • How old is this commercial?

  • at least 15-20 years old

  • @DeltaAirtran 1989

  • I also disagree with irelandofold's comment, I recently travelled with Aer Lingus with my young cousin who was terrified of flying and the flight attendant spent a few moments talking to her before take off and again during the flight and after we landed asked how she was and thanked us all for flying with Aer Lingus, it's little things like that which remind you why Aer Lingus is better than a certain other low cost airline.

  • exactly ur dead fukin right they're a brilliant crew

  • I totally have to disagree with irelandofold's comment about Aer Lingus flight attendants. Have 3 kids under 5 and found them so helpful and friendly compared to many other airlines.

  • happy xmas to every one!

brill add good times arent far away

  • Beautiful ad, beautiful music and two words that says it all. "Your home"

  • When I was young and flew with Aer Lingus, I used watch how well the cabin crew used to take care of young children and the parents. I used to look forward to the day that I would take my kids on long hauls. Now I fly with my kids, the basinets are gone from most flights and the crew has zero interest in helping.

  • @irelandofold

well thats not my experiance anyway !! In every airline , in every company there will be staff the let the whole side down but while im not denying aer lingus has some there are in the minority and i think u were unlucky! Maby fly with them again sumtime and it might make all the difference :D

  • This video is amazing. It takes me back to a time when life was simple and everyone seemed a little happier. I think living abroad makes the video more touching as you can dream about what Ireland used to be, and there is a longing to go home

  • bring back the 747

  • there are enough ancient relics in ireland without bringing back boeing. AIRBUS FOREVER!!

  • I agree totally, but i dont think it will ever happen. Its a pity!

  • @Shane028. The Airbus is an excellent plane, and comfortable, but the look the 747 has is amazing. Sadly, I was only on it for 30 mins, snn to dub

  • Brings a tear to the eye...

    love this ad

  • as it says "aer lingus ..... simply UNBEATABLE!!!

  • Ah the good old days on the Ramp. Not a high-vis jacket in sight. To all the men and women who dedicated their working lives to keep the Aer Lingus fleet flying.

  • i love the way no one speaks in this ad.

    makes it so much better.

  • not how there was like twice as many staff as are actually needed god bless unions they made this country wat it is today!

  • One of the manies prides of IRELAND

  • good old days of Aer lingus.

  • Aer Lingus purchased 6 A350XWB's

  • when did aer lingus buy these A350's?

  • Aer Lingus ordered A350s in 2007, but won't be delivered until 2013 at the earliest, and given the current financial state it may not even happen. They are planning to sell off a lot of their existing A330s just to keep afloat right now.

  • Really lovely music. They played this tune during Stephen Gately's funeral service.

  • so good for stephen, this music, xx

  • This music reminds me of my Aunt Emma and Grandmother Nora...so many great memories and seems so long ago. Ireland forever!

  • Aer lingus rock...ryanair and michael o leary suck!!!

  • 0.13 sexy beast, whoor

  • 0:25 - as that 737 (200?) kicks her spoilers up, tyre smoke swirling in her wake - brilliant.

  • dont think that was a 737-200 if you look closely yuou will see cfm56 engines im sure the 200 series didnt have those

  • Well spotted. At least a 300 then. My observation was clouded by emotion...

  • Mine was clouded by drink :-)

  • my dad worked for aerlingus from 76-88 and is in that add :06 to :08 in the white and on the left in the cherry picker. his claim to fame :) :)

  • years since ive seen this ad...brilliant

  • I remember this add from my childhood..thank u for uploading this!

  • i think ive watched this video hundreds of times and it still gives me the shivers

  • This makes me want to buy a ticket home.

I always try to fly with Aer Lingus. Much better then freaking Ryanair!

  • I miss the old days of air travel. The airlines were so much more respectable, friendly, and over all more enjoyable. Aer Lingus will live on as one of the greats. I'm always glad to fly with them and I even look forward to it.

  • it has that late evening Irish weather too. That's what I especially love about returning 2 ireland at evening. It makes u feel happy and glad 2 be home after maybe a big apple holiday or a sun or ski holiday.

  • One of the all-time great tv advertisements. Not a word spoken!

  • i love this vid..and as declanjmurray says

''Makes me proud to be Irish '' thanx 4 posting it ;-)

  • Makes me proud to be Irish

  • I'd love Aer Lingus to do flights from Stansted again, but then that'll increase competition and rilvary with Ryanair's Stansted to Ireland flights.

  • aer lingus should buy some 747's again.not a lot,just a few.

  • A330`s are more fuel efficient

  • And much more comfortable.

  • Aer Lingus is so much nicer. Iove that tune. Its so sweet and beautiful.

  • I'm from ireland so aer lingus is my national airline. I usually go on aer lingus but if I go on a different airline, I can't seem to be comfortable

  • My very first flight was on an Aer LIngus 747 way back when..Oh the memories..

  • Gosh I'd long forgotten about this ad - wasnt it lovely! Advertised Aer Lingus when it was still proud to be the National airline!!!

  • Im suprised they are still in business, offering BA like service but at an easyJet price. Ireland must be the cheapest place to fly from and to, especially with RyanAir

  • thats true theres more competition between aer lingus and ryanair than there is between any other airlines in the world!

  • I have only flown on Aer Lingus from Edinburgh to Dublin very comfortable don't remember the advert though probably not shown in the UK I suppose.

Loved the music from The Mission wasn't it? never flown Ryan air never cheapo airlines maybe I'm a snob prefer the more established airlines like BMI, BA, KLM and so on. I don't like the boss of Ryan air too arogant. At least airlines like aer lingus get you to where you want to be not the next town away so far away it costs you a fortune in a taxi

  • im a pilot for aerlingus va for fsx

  • I cry every time I see this!

  • The music makes me cry

  • cant wait for aer lingus to get their a350!!

  • I remember this ad was airing when I was living in London and it used to make me feel homesick even though I was only an hour away. 20 years later Im living in New York and stumbled across this ad and its made me feel homesick again. Its been 2 years since I was back so I think its time to climb abroad the green and white bird. Great to see it again.

  • NOSTALGIA.. did that ireland really exist??? love it

  • This is the best EI advert ever. I wish they would do an updated version. The music is fantastic and so well suited to Aer Lingus.

  • IM HOME

  • The sound of home

  • i was in the us wen im in the airport i love to loook for aerlingus jets

  • thats because aer lingus have the most beautiful paint scheme in the world

  • I love aerLingus theere airbus a330-200 2008

    is cool great memorys :P

  • What year was this from?

  • 1989/1990

  • Man, this brings back memories!!!

  • This used to give me a lump in my throat when I was a nipper living with mammy and daddy in Ireland. I'm in floods now thousands of milse away. Makes me want to hop on a plane home!

  • does ne 1 no the name of the song are lingus is a wonderful airline please let me no the name of the song as soon as ne one can if it helps this song is also playing in the movie the MISSION

  • it's called Gabriel's Oboe, from the mission soundtrack.

  • Gabriel's Oboe just search it on google.

  • fantastic!

  • thanks you so much great ad; great tune; great memory...cheers!!

  • Its more like an advert for Bread.

  • Used to fly with Aer Lingus Heathrow to Shannon with family when I was a child-great times, advert brings it all back great stuff thanks !!

  • i want to be a pilot for aer lingus when i grow up

  • whats the average salary for EI cabin crew monthly ?

  • Aer Lingus holds a special place in the hearts of the Irish people.Symbolizing our Independence, our friendly image and our heritage. Aer Lingus is a national symbol, a necessity to the economy and a source of great pride. A symbol for us like the shamrock and the pint of Guinness

  • ur so right

  • couldn't have put it better myself. well said Locker10a

  • Is that nana noon at 0.25????

    I like thid ad.

  • I always thought it was too! Imagine starting your career on an Aer Lingus advert and ending it on EastEnders.
