  • wasn't it cold for the guards? with no pants on?

  • wasn't it cold for the guards since they wore no pants?

  • i am crying laughing so hard belly hurts

  • hmm wordplay in the german version is much better...but...only if u understand german :D

  • Genius, one of the funniest films ever:)

  • Fun fact: the actor playing the giggling centurion is Chris Langham, who played Hugh Abbot MP on "The Thick of It" 25 years later.

  • @hygraed And got done for kiddie porn.

  • i wish i could have been 1 of the guards

mind you i wouldnt have lasted 30 seconds in this scene before cracking up

  • Someone mentioned Michael Palin keeping a straight face. It looks like when he got in the face of that first soldier (the one who puckers his lips) that he starts to crack up when he says "Dickus". But when they come back to him, he has a straight face. I own the DVD and I'll check for bloopers or outtakes.

  • @cuphan99

No it's not blooper or outtake Michael just tries to make the extra laugh. Then turns all serious like towards the others.

  • lmfao

  • Centuwion do have anyone of that name in the gawisson?

  • "Incontinentia Buttocks"

    hahahahahahaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa........

  • I'd *love* to see outtakes during the shooting of this scene -- anyone know if the DVD has some?

sometimes directors will not tell extras (like the court centurians here) what's coming next to catch their initial reactions

  • that's the funniest scene I've ever seen

  • When i see this i totally understand why jews lounched 3 rebellions against Rome.

    Romans were totally insane !

  • This is one of my favorite movies ever made. I can watch this part a hundred times and laugh every time.

  • Wirf ten Purschen zu Podn!!!! XD

  • Yeah, Palin's the best! How on Earth he kept a straight face during bits like this...

No joke, I actually drop quotes from this very scene in real life just to sort out who all the cool people are.

And I also want to say, as much as I wouldn't mind being a teenager again, I am SO glad to not be from a generation where crap like Fred is considered "comedy."

  • oh yes. Throw him to the floor please

  • Does anyone else feel like a little...giggul?

  • Nono, Roman.

  • 1:43 is priceless! XD

  • this is just so supremely funny -- I mean laugh out loud funny, perhaps wet your pants funny, shed a tear funny, and it's all thanks to Michael Palin's absolutely spot-on comedic timing -- he's SO good, the way he waits to deliver yet another punch to your already hurting funny bone ... watch how he walks ever so deliberately around the back of the 2 centurions waiting to deliver the knockout punch: "He has a wife, you know . . ."

the Pythons are so wonderful -- hope you get IFC :)

  • Michael Palin was the best Python.

  • Gaxo-

I saw an interview with John Cleese in which he said: "Michael Palin is the funniest man in England"

  • @DoctorPatient This video STILL makes me laugh till I almost cry lol! It reinds me if the days my boss or somebody way up says something unwittingly stupid and you know laughing will get you killed, but you just cant stop it lol!

  • @shkotay What kind of a boss would get you killed? Are you in organised crime?

  • @Knasterreal1 I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill ya :D

  • Very funny

  • its so wisable.

  • 1:42 ROFL

  • so your father was a woman??

    best scene.

    in german it just sucks

  • No, in english it sucks.

  • I cannot agree!!! The German translation is hilarious!! I honestly find it so much funnyer in German!!!

  • rofl this scene

  • -spwiwit!

    -yes he had, sir.

  • biggus dickus and incontinentia buttocks lool

  • I haven't laughed this hard in ages. :'D

  • Bwew your noses and seize him

  • 3:18 lol

  • "He has a wife you know......."

  • lol, this is sorta wierd, but i try and hold my laughter in with the guards! XD it that funny =)

  • me too :D

  • It's hard :)

  • haha

    'phow him to the phoor'

  • This is the funniest thing ever made.

  • hahahaha, fwiting wabbid wiwd animawls within a week

  • stwike him centwirwian, vwerwy woughwy.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Hey Dazzy, you think Biggus has BM's too???

  • Anybody else feel like a little....giggle.

    LOL.

  • Apparently the actors who were the guards weren't told exactly what was going to be said, just to stand still & look serious.

  • i tried not to laugh like the romans but man is that IMPOSSIBLE!

  • Perfectly awesome

  • Five stars before I even started watching.

  • He has a wife you know...

  • Thats really very funny...

Pure british comedy at its best.

And throw him to the floor sir?

Oh yes!!! Throw him to the floor please....

  • Fwow him to the fwar!! Thats bwoody better

  • Fwow him to the fwawe!!

  • Somehow i remembered one guy from other land who was visiting in our school, he name was kinda stupid meaning in our language. In english translation it would be something like "farting sh*t". Reaction when someone hear hes name was very much like this.

  • I know of an asian guy in Sweden whos name means "Heavy Scrotum" in swedish.

  • what's so brilliant is that the scene is almost entirely improvised. the reactions are genuine.

  • LMAO yay! best bit!

  • monty python is a legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw thim movie the other day at the New Beverly theater in los Angeles. I cried during this scene, and not from sadness.

  • lol this is the BEST!!!

  • I can't help but think of how this sounds like a day at my work. I work with Bosnian guys who are sometimes hard to talk with (most are getting better with their English).

Still though, I'm in tears from laughing so hard even though I have the movie and have seen it well over a hundred times.

  • those are the funniest 4 mins 18 secs in television history!!!!

  • Totally agree man, theyre umbelievable!!

  • i'd like to know how many takes this took(takes this took??)i'd need oxygen on hand

  • OH!!!! AH.... About 11 Sir!!!!!!

  • michael's facial expressions are the best lol. it bloody funny.

  • What a damn does he says on 0:52?

  • "No no spirit, bravado a touch of daring do" :D

  • Actually, it's "derring-do".

  • I just looked this up as I have never heard of "Derring" before. It turns out to a be a misquote of an old word for Daring. The things you learn from Monty Python ^^

  • Its 'No, no, Spewwtit...Bwadavdo. A touch of Dewwing Dooo". LOL best scene on the film

  • I've seen this movie many a time (along with the flying circus and they're other movies) and this scene is right up there with the Knights of Ni, i laugh myself whenever i see it =DD

  • hahaha the best scene in all the films! omg

    ...

    Incontinentia Buttocks

  • Haha! Best bit of the film! You can see Mike Palin desperatley trying not to laugh!

  • omg i love pretendin 2 be the soldiers i just cant hold my laugh in haha
