Great talk, on some points he has slightly overstretched his theory and is a bit to "nostalgic" of our past. People loved gore and violence since antiquity, and loved the stuff about relationships as well (read Shakespeare – relationships and insane violence all over, and is great). We must remember also that our ancestors were as violent as we are or more so. And people always did plenty of risky behavior. Also parents lose points because the kids are more technologically savvy then the parents
@TheBookArchive I got the impression that in his presentation there is a sort of "good" past "bad" present motif, and, to my best knowledge, it is not so as I tried to illustrate.
A genius with the guts to go around talking about what he knows to be the truth... I love it, and he inspires me to be the best parent I can to my daughter, for her sake!
Thank you. Great topic, very sad that I have no idea what your conclusion was due to the sound dropping out. However, you have given a great deal of food for thought. Take care. Brett.
great great stuff, really good! just the microphone was probably the most annoying thing ever! if he wasnt so intresting and intellectual, i would have turned this off the second time the mic started making those noises and cutting out every 3 min... fucking ey... wish the quality was better.
amazing after watching this im sure every not only have learned how to nurture there children but to step back and to Analise yourself for what u have become unconsciously.
I don't know if you can look at bullying purely as an attachment problem while disregarding the fact that bullies are essentially mirroring the actions of 'respected' authority figures such as police, military, managers, etc.
@stochastic24 But the police, military, managers probably all have attachment/self-esteem/security problems. Just because two things mirror each other it doesn't mean the one is causing the other, they may just occur in tandem.
The principle of the interdependence of behavior and connection is so obvious and real. I feel so relieved when I listen to Gabor speak. I have been waiting for so many years to have someone who can share with such clarity.
It has been so horrible to be in a family that is constantly in denial.. We have such a society that is also in denial. We have had values that are upside down. Surely the child is a reflection of what is taking place in the environment.
His book should be called Hold On To Your Loved Ones.
I'm reading it now and it is as much an insight into how we can look after each other as human beings as it is peer orientation. Gabor is so openminded and intelligent he must surely be a certified genius; I cant imagine him not being one.
people like me don't adjust to american culture well, and americans surive it with problems like he mentions because of basic needs unmet. I now live isolated and far from the culture and world I knew, a place where I looked to elders and family not peers, all are gone, the community and family no longer exists, and I feel very sad and unhappy many of the times because of it.
Being alone & isolated is depressing. I wish you the very best in the hope that one day you will indeed find that which we all seek, family & community. Don't lose hope.
His book is a hard read. Once you really grasp all the problems of peer orientation, and what individualistic americans (and the west in general) lose what communal villages and societies in other parts of the world have. I was fortunate to experience communal love/rearing for short so I can personally attest to what he writes;
Every medical school should be presenting this material to their students. Instead of the "genetic" origin of disease that is pushed so heavily, which is 99% bullshit. Epigenetics is the real determining factor in disease as Dr. Matte so eloquently explains here.
I am so sick of the genetic "explanation" for everything. It's been used as a way to remove any responsibility from society for its many ills.
I'm also sick of the garbage twin studies that supposedly prove much of this crap. Twin studies can be useful but there is so much shit out there of such low quality it amazes me it gets published in academic journals.
The sad part is that there is so much good research out there like Bruce K. Alexander 's "Rat Park" drug experiments.
This is great stuff, this is the knowledge that should be advocated in the class rooms, or a requiremental study for anyone wanting to bring children into this world. So many of our commonly held beliefs in our society simply do not make sense when viewed objectivly, as Dr. Made points out so efficiently in this lecture and his other seminars. We need to take a step back, and view all aspects of our development from a biopsychosocial perspective, where all things are interrelated.
@djviscus50621 Yes we need a new system to really have a chance to heal ourselves and eachother. This is such vital knowledge! watch Zeitgeist moving forward, he plays an important role in the film, where the dots are connected. observing life as we know it holistically and then improving as much as we can as a species and individuals. Take care mate
I always preferred being with adults instead of kids, but everyone insisted that I need to "socialize" with kids, that being with adults so much isn't good etc. Socialization with other kids wasn't something my parents pushed either. Now I am closer to my parents than anyone I know is.
Very insigtful presentation. I wish everyone would watch this.

What!? where's the q & a??? I need it in my life. Great lecture. I discovered him in Zeitgeist Moving Forward as well as many other great minds.
Another great researcher for children and behavior backed by tons of research is Alfie Kohn.
