If you came here from watching Big Bang Theory please check out Astrud Gilberto's version. Cher does not sing this in the best way. Bossa Nova as previous commenters have said is supposed to be smooth, Cher's cover is very loud and brash.

It´s a common mistake. American singers usually sing bossa nova as if they were singing American pop music. It must be mellow and cool, Forget harsh singing.. The beat is another problem. Maybe some day...who knows.

This was on what was Cher's second album (1966, I believe). The album was produced by Sonny and Cher was still developing her voice. Supposedly, she was super uncomfortable singing solo. My hats off to a lady who is still recording 45 years later! Among her contemporaries, who else is there? No one.
